Staffs are friendly. They have a standard set menu at €28. For the set menu, you can pick an appetiser, a main course, and a dessert. There are three appetisers to choose from, three entree, and two different desserts to choose from. Foie gras is rich and smooth. Beef is cooked just right. The snail dish requires a bit more seasoning. Fish is grilled nicely and perfectly as the entire fish even the skin is fully intact without any bits and pieces falling apart. Cuttlefish has a lot of moisture and the taste is balanced well with a touch of seasoning. However, the presentation of the lobster dish is weird. Overall dishes are done well, presentation of each dish is good. Value of the menu compared to the quality and quantity of each is fair. The design of complimentary sides that comes together for each dish is a bit boring as they are exactingly the same.

We rented a car and booked a hotel room and drove from Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain on Christmas Day just to eat here. We had seen the reviews online from people like Wolter's World and Mark Wiens on YouTube. We were excited to try this supposedly gigantic, fancy buffet in the South of France. Their website mentioned that they had options for dietary restrictions. We prepaid our meal when booking but drinks are not included, not even water. Whatever, European restaurants are annoying in that aspect. We arrived at the restaurant and found out it's attached to a bowling alley. We had to walk through some sort of disinfectant mister and then head inside. The person who walked us to our table spoke English and showed us to our seat. The seats were crammed together to the point a built in planter box was taking up half of my seat at the table. I had to sit with my chair at an angle to avoid being poked by the sharp corner of the planter. Despite seeing French speakers being given a tour, I was not. This has never happened at any high end buffet that I've visited, and I've been to them all as I live in Las Vegas. A chef has always come out and pointed out what I could and couldn't eat when I told the staff that I had celiac disease. I don't even need them to speak English. I understand pointing and "oui / non." I was handed an allergen binder and found out that ALL of the hot main dishes contained gluten. All of them. The only hot main dish I could have was a slice of beef with no sauce - even the mustard contained gluten. I carried the allergen binder into the appetizer section and had to look at the name of each item and see if I could find it in the binder (which is stressful) and only then choose the item. A staff member saw that I looked confused / stressed and told me in English that I could have all of these cheeses except 2 that she pointed to. She then asked me to take a photo of the allergen binder on my phone to look at while going through the buffet so that they could have the binder back. How about pointing out what I CAN eat so that I'm not having to stand around trying to figure it out? I was given a basket of sliced sandwich loaf as my gluten-free bread. Buffet is mostly cheese, cured meats and cold seafood. There really aren't even that many options, even if you have no medical dietary restrictions. Every Vegas resort buffet is larger than this one. It was such a disappointment. The dessert buffet has an ice cream station and at a certain time they stop serving desserts from a case. I pointed to the mini souffle in the case (to give to my husband because the lines were so long.) I was told that they're not longer serving it because it was too late, despite it being more than 15 minutes before the cutoff time. Service was horrible. I got a half lobster and our waitress never brought me a claw cracker after saying that she would. Plates piled up on our already cramped table. The cost of water was never told to us so we didn't want to order something without knowing the cost. It ended up only being a few euros which we paid for at the end of the meal. Unless you're planning to eat nothing but cheese, Spanish cured pork and some boiled seafood, don't bother if you can't eat gluten. 9 of us ate here last night. Waiter got 3 starters incorrect…read more( 2 soup instead of salad prix fix , we asked to share fois gras but apparently given 1 serving each). At the end of the night waiter came to the head of the table announced to everyone that he had made an error with the fois gras and the money would come out of his wages if we did not pay for 2 starters ( though ordered 1). I have NEVER been put in such an awkward position. The waiter also quietly notified 1 of our group that the chef was his brother. I felt totally manipulated /abused into paying a 2nd starter that was not ordered. I'm sorry that I paid it as in retrospect there is nothing that tells me that behaviors will change. They provide excellence at a level that I didn't find anywhere else in years by taking care of the most minuscule detail you can think about. The restaurant (and we then discovered is also a luxury B&B) is located at about 20 minutes from Carcassonne. So some people may think it's not worth it to drive to there... Wrong! It's absolutely worth it! The place is lovely. And even if it's beautiful by its own, it also provides a nice view of the city. If that was not already enough reason, you find out very soon that that's just the beginning.... the owner welcomed us at the entrance and guided us to the great room with a majestic fireplace. We sat on the sofa facing the fire and she served us a couple of glasses of Blanquette de Limoux (the first sparkling wine of the world!) and some olive and nuts. After that, she accompanied us to the table. The menu she prepared for us (based on our preferences since she already asked us beforehand by email) was: .- Amuse-bouche of crab with lemon caviar pearls: fantastic. The balance of the crab with the acidic lemon caviar (not real caviar) was simply about perfect. .- Baby scallops and avocado wrapped in a cabbage leaf and black truffle with mushroom cream: beautiful as well as delicious creation. The cream was something of another world. I think you could even serve it as a soup by itself. The wrap delivered really delicate flavors that were accentuated by the black truffle. .- Pan roasted salmon with vegetables and port reduced sauce: Salmon was super fresh and the sauce was also superb. Perfect crispy skin. Interestingly enough, even if the salmon was excellent for me the star of the dish was the vegetables. They were delicately cooked and provided freshness in each bite. I could eat an entire plate of them. Pure perfection! .- Chocolate pudding with passion fruit, mint and white chocolate. Lemon sorbet as a side: excellent desert for closing such an enjoyable and lovely night. The chocolate with the the passion fruit and white delivered nice and balanced flavors and texture. The mint provided some freshness so you want to come back and get another bite. Finally, the lemon sorbet cleansed your palette in the most delightful way. At the end of the dinner, the chef approached us to ensure everything was right and that we enjoyed the dinner. He is only 21 years old!!! I have been in One Michelin Star restaurant that were not as good as him! If he can put together dishes like these ones with only 21 years old, I can't wait to see what this chef will offer us in the future. In summary, we cannot wait to come back. Arriving at the spur of the moment in Ales we found the hostellerie and ended up in the restaurant…read morewhere I had a goat cheese salad and trout with pine nuts and the obligatory two "boules" of sorbet and hubby had foie gras, followed by trout "meunière ". All was extremely well prepared and the plates with the trouts were not only wonderfully cooked but also a delight for the eyes - to mention purple slices of potatoes, golden trout, greenish black sheered fennel and butter seasoned to perfection. If ever you have a chance to go there it is well worth a side trip from Limoux.
