What a wonderful hunting experience I had at 4 Amigos Ranch this past mid-October! Lee, Clinton and Colton were a pleasure to be with during our time there. Helpful, informative and always going out of the way so we could harvest what we came for, which was originally wild pigs for eating...My friend and I got our 2 pigs each but the itch to get more was there and evolved into a desire to get an Aoudad which was really a challenge...However, with effort and encouragement I was able to get an ~120yrd shot (I golf) and get one! The rest of the staff throughout were incredible and friendly and our cook Cori, was super fabulous and can cook and incredible meal! Erica was also a gem in helping answer questions and getting us situated before the trip. Seriously, I would have easily paid more than what I did I had so much fun! The animals were plentiful and beautiful but it was not easy to get what you want because you had to be patient and let time and effort pay off. It was such a spectacular time, we are doing it again in Q2 or Q1. I highly recommend 4 Amigos for an awesome, relaxing fun time of hunting, sight seeing, animal watching and being with genuinely awesome people. Memorable and stupendous. This place is the best of the best! The staff is amazing! I highly recommend Ryan for a guide. Ryan is very knowledgeable about the animals, very knowledgeable about the ranch, he takes the time to ensure a hunter has the right shot for success. The manager was good people as well. The guides are amazingly helpful and extremely hard working and are always willing to help. The hunt it's self is fun exciting and adrenaline pumping action. I have absolutely zero complaints the ranch you stay at is absolutely beautiful and the rooms are amazing and comfy. Amazing... From the moment you drive into the property you are surrounded by animals. Once you reach the main House it is comfortable and a nice laid-back atmosphere. Things do move fast as to get the most of your hunting experience. Our first night hunt my buddy got his hog within 30 minutes of being in the blind. On the second morning we were in a blind with plenty of wildlife moving about. Believe me when the website details the animals on the Ranch they are there, and plenty of them. I decided to wait for the afternoon and do a spot and stock style hunt. We spotted our Rams at about 100 to 115 yards away. My guide got us behind them, and we stalked to exactly 23 yards away. For this being an archery hunt the situation was ideal. And I dropped a beautiful Sandy Dall Ram. I could write another review just on the food. Where to begin. If you want don't want to buy your meat from a grocery and want to be a part of the pioneer way and hunt your own, give this place a shot. My group of 12 arrived on a Sunday in March, 2 weeks ago. Some flew in while most drove. 19 hrs from KY. This area is 2 miles from the Mexico border /river, about halfway between Laredo and San Antonio. We came down to eradicate & assist with the Texas hog reproduction problem. Currently at 4 million hogs, to only keep the population at its current level (which is 3 times overpopulated), 70% of hogs must be killed annually. Hogs are able to reproduce at 5 months old and can have 3 litters per year of between 8-16 piglets per litter!! They reproduce like rats! For perspective, one hog can be responsible for 2,000 pigs in 3 yrs! These numbers are mind boggling. Ranchers are totally fed up with these and this is why Kentucky State Wildlife Office makes it a crime to bring any hogs to KY. This ranch has cooks on staff that keep you stuffed. Amazing food. The owner, Daniel Brock, has guides that take great care of you. The lodge will sleep 24 people and is amazingly beautiful end to end. The view is amazing looking over a pretty lake. There is buffalo that grazes within a few feet of the lodge. If you want to see more than hogs, they have a variety of other wildlife, like axis, fallow, red stag, and whitetail deer, Corsicans, Catalina's, Oryx, and more. The cost of the 3 day hunt with lodging, food and two hogs is $450. You will have about $100-$150 in skinning fees, $125 tip for guide, $25 tip for cook. BRING YOUR OWN COOLER! They will pack the meat into these and freeze the entire cooler for you. You can check the cooler at airport just like luggage. We will be smoking meat for the next 7 months! Can't wait. Yum!! This ranch ensures that no meat goes to waste. They have a "feed the hungry and poor" program and routinely donate thousands of pounds of hog, ram, etc to the local communities. I've heard stories of locals being parked on side of road for a mile on a free meat pick up day. It's quite a service this ranch gives back to the community. STAY AWAY! A posted schedule would have been helpful. Meal time was always at different times. (always wondering timing) Strong suggestion is to have dinner at 5pm not 9-10pm, we waste valuable night hunting time since pickup was always at 1am. A schedule of which guide was "on duty" would have been nice instead of all the no responses when you text guides or they tell you so and so is on. A MAP of the Property!!! Names and locations of the blinds, this would have made things way more enjoyable as our group was texting each other trying to figure everything out. A meeting or update which blinds had what activity so those that still needed a kill got to go to the hot spots. Random drop offs to random blinds was frustrating. It came off that the guides didn't want to do anything extra. Minus Steve, who was great, helpfulness and attitude seemed to be lost. The first night of food was fantastic (Beef Tacos). Processed meat on processed sliced bread with mayo was a disappointment for lunch on a Texas ranch. Then the breakfast the morning we left, leftover meat from the dinner before was tossed into some scrambled eggs (not good). The experience would have been way better with a little more organization and structure. The orientation safety meeting was more ground rules and lacked step by step and need to know information. The website lacks information and can be misleading. No all night hunts, pricing is confusing, and schedules were not understood. A Map and Posted Schedule would go a LONG way. Also that the meat is not placed in bags, except for the head? It would have been nice to be prepared to at least bring bags for the hog and not have to put the meat directly in my nice cooler. Another suggestion I have, I understand the gun free lodge...I get it, liability and so forth but it was a pain to do the gear up with just vehicles, some tables in the parking lot by the shooting range would have been incredibly helpful. My wife and I just finished our annual trip to 4 Amigos Ranch with the Nate Morrison group. This trip was just fantastic like it always is. Ranchers were awesome and game was everywhere. Went here to hunt feral hog for the first time ever. That was an experience in itself, unlike any hunting I've done. Accommodations were good, meals were excellent and hunting was nonstop during prime hunting times. Other places I've looked into really seem to limit opportunities to hunt - but these guys will get you into the field whenever the animals are moving (till 1 or 2am). Just returned from a hunt at 4 Amigos Ranch and I gotta tell you, I had the time of my life! Staff was personable, friendly, professional (with the right amount of ball busting) and willing to go out of their way to get you in an area/blind to get what ever animal you wish. Our group had 16 people in it and we were never crowded or bored. The club house has a pool table, poker table & TV. The cook puts together some amazing meals (which is included in the hunt cost) and Dan (the owner) along with 3 of his guides made sure we had a ton of time out on the property hunting. Our trip was 3 days and I can safely say, each day we spent a minimum of 12 hours out on the property in a blind, or in a truck looking for the herd of an exotic animal you wish you shoot. There is a shooting range there (believe it goes to 300 yards) to sight your rifle in when you arrive. From arrival to sitting in a blind was just over 2 hours. That's fast hunting service! Word for the wise, if you are planning on hunting at 4 Amigos, bring a large caliber rifle. I brought a .308, others a 7mm08, 6.5 Grendal, and 28 Nosler. I can personally say, a .308 is probably the bare minimum of what you should bring. I watched a hog get shot with a .308, to the head, fall down and get back up. They are amazing animals and can take the punishment. The hunt cost covers 2 hogs, you just have to pay a skinning fee for each. After that each additional hog is $125. More than a fair price i feel. I shot the largest hog on the trip, 160 pounds and the smallest, 20 lbs. From those i brought back around 50ish pounds of meat. Don't plan on doing anything more than shooting the hog and helping to drag it to the truck (if you want). They will skin, de-bone and pack the meat for you, which they flash freeze for you. Can't beat it! There are also many exotic animals there you can shoot (for a fee of course). Axis, Black Buck, Red Stag, Rams, Aoudad Rams, Buffalo, Elk to name a few. I am an avid Pennsylvanian White Tail Deer hunter, and this was my first guided hunt. I learned so much from the guides about the animals, their habits, where they originate from, etc. Great great first experience of a guided hunt!!
