Well that was a heavenly night out…read more Our first restaurant meal in Vienna, so it had to be Wiener schnitzel. Perfect veal pieces with a perfectly golden, bubbled crumb, as large as our plate. Heaven. Potato salad - perfect; a little on the sweeter side. No mayo here, as it should be. Also, we were craving veg, so ordered the rucola salad. This being Austria, it was covered in ham and a sharp cheese. I'm not complaining The room had a simple, cozy cellar bar feel. It was a tad warm inside. Friendly service. Although I tried my best with German they also spoke excellent English. Drinks wise - hubby enjoyed the lager beer and I loved the Weiss gespritzt. At €3,90 a glass, I was happy! They were busy so recommend booking. Fantastic meal, highly recommend!

The seating is indoor (fairly small - but enough room to not feel cramped) or outdoors. Outdoor seating was plentiful, but like most people in Vienna, the locals all seem to smoke. So we opted for indoors. Our waitress was kickass. Right off the bat she was welcoming and on it. We ordered Gruner Vertliner wine, which arrived promptly and a carafe of water... which was nice touch. Our waitress recommended the "fried chicken" (which was similar to schnitzel, but with chicken - and only better) and the gnocchi with smashed peas and chorizo. Both were fire. We also ordered the no bake chocolate cake and it was really good. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. We may be going back tomorrow.

Service was prompt, although if you're American, be aware that in Austria, the servers mostly leave you alone and don't check on you, so if you need something, you'll need to catch their eye. They were setting up for evening service, with reserved placards on many tables, when we left. I'd recommend making a reservation if you plan to go for dinner:
