YELP REVIEW -- ONELIFE FITNESS, GERMANTOWN, MARYLAND…read more I am extremely disappointed that an otherwise five-star experience turned into a nightmare because of one employee's attitude and lack of concern for my safety. I want to be fair: I have nothing against Onelife Fitness as an organization. I previously visited the Olney location twice, had excellent experiences, and left two positive reviews. I review each location based on my actual experience there. Unfortunately, Germantown was completely different. Earlier in my visit, I worked with Lorenzo, who said he had only been there about 90 days. He was AWESOME--welcoming, professional, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He showed me everything and explained it so well that I couldn't believe he was new. He told me he attends college for physical fitness and business. Onelife should recognize him because he represented the company extremely well. I enjoyed the facility and pool. Until closing, this could have been another five-star review. Then I encountered an employee named Randy. At closing, I gathered my belongings and arranged transportation. My Uber app wasn't working properly from the back of the building, so I switched to Lyft. When I reached the front, my ride was only minutes away. I calmly explained that I understood they were closing. I was NOT disputing closing time and was NOT asking to continue using the gym. I simply asked to wait briefly in the vestibule because I was unfamiliar with the area and did not feel safe standing alone in the dark parking lot. I explained my safety concern by saying: "It's too dangerous for a woman to be outside. What if someone was to try to rape me or abduct me out there because it's dark in the parking lot?" That was a statement about a potential safety risk. I never claimed anyone attempted to rape or abduct me. My Lyft was approximately three minutes away. Instead of showing basic courtesy, Randy became increasingly rude, disrespectful and verbally aggressive, insisting I had to go outside immediately. What made this more disturbing was that construction workers were still inside doing renovation work. This happened in the vestibule area. The workers weren't rude to me and didn't appear bothered by me waiting there. The hostility came from this employee. I understand businesses have closing procedures and employees want to go home. That was never the issue. The issue was judgment, professionalism and basic human decency. Even if company policy required me outside, he could have simply said, "I have to lock up, but I'll wait at the door until your Lyft arrives." Instead, after I explained that I felt unsafe, I was put outside and he walked away. That is unacceptable customer service. I HAVE PHOTOS DOCUMENTING THE CONDITIONS I photographed the area immediately afterward. The pictures show the parking lot at night and the darker, more isolated portions surrounding it. I also photographed the employee from behind as he walked away; I intentionally did not photograph/post his face. Most importantly, my Lyft screenshot shows "Driver arriving in 1 min" and identifies the pickup location as Onelife Fitness - Germantown. I wasn't refusing to leave. My ride was literally arriving. I also photographed the construction workers who remained inside. The photographs demonstrate exactly why I raised a safety concern. I wasn't asking for special treatment or additional gym time. I was asking for a few minutes in a safer location until my ride arrived. One employee turned what had been a genuinely enjoyable visit into an experience so unpleasant that I would not return to the Germantown location. Management should review the surveillance footage from the vestibule/front entrance. I hope they recognize Lorenzo for his outstanding customer service, but they also need to address how this situation was handled. No customer should leave a fitness facility feeling that a legitimate concern for her personal safety was treated as a joke, inconvenience, or reason for hostility.

It took me about 10-12 classes to begin forming my own preferences. Also, this place is very clean compared to other gyms - required wipedown of the machines/equipment after usage. There is a bit of a learning curve when you start, but once you do start with the routine of the place, it becomes very enjoyable to be there. I also like the payment options because you are not always locked down for a year at a time. You have the option to do monthly or even 6 months at a lower rate. If you are traveling, you can pay a fee to hold the month. I really do appreciate the flexibility, especially since I have month-long international vacations coming up. The heart rate monitors are finicky at times and are not entirely accurate, but it is still a good motivator. I like watching the screen just to see how much I am exerting or where I am compared to others. If I am the only one chilling in blue, then it lets me know that I am the slacker in the room. For me, I was never a runner. I could barely run a block without wanting to stop. After coming here, I was shocked I was able to do these extended running blocks and still keep going. I am able to see some improvement in performance after a month. Now, everything above applies to OTF (OrangeTheory Fitness) in general. The reason why this location is such a great place is its staff and location. It is tucked away in the corner of the shopping center farthest away from the busy area near Harris Teeter. They do have a parking area right next to them that extends all around. Also, it is walkable to this location from my house, so ice, rain, snow, etc. do not affect me and my schedule. When I signed up, I was a bit skeptical and was unsure how I would fit in with everyone else. However, the staff here are all so nice. I was actually taken aback when I came back for my second day and the staff already said hello using my name. I thought it was a fluke at first, but till this day, they have greeted me with smiles and laughter. Whenever I had issues with the heart rate monitors, they are always prompt in trying to address the issue. I have always felt like I could depend on them when I run into problems. The coaches all have their own personalities, but the best thing is that they are not intimidating at all. They help you when they see your form is off - mostly through whispering. They give high fives coming in and out of the work out area. Some of them crack jokes during the workout, which does add a good comedic value considering all you are thinking about is when you can walk on the treadmill. Overall, I am glad that I started coming to this location and highly recommend it for at least a try.

Per the contract you have to wear a "uniform." What that uniform is, is not specified but you can assume it's a Soldierfit shirt. If you intend to workout often, 5 days or more a week, you have to wash the same shirt everyday or risk being admonished or have your membership terminated without a refund ( meaning you have to pay in full If you have a 6 month or year membership). Or you're simply unhygienic and wear a sweaty shirt multiple days in a row. The own Steve stated I could purchase more shirts, which is ridiculous given I'm paying 129 a month. Providing new members with three shirts to start off would be more reasonable but as I mentioned the gym is money focused not patron focused. In general, the workouts are okay but the atmosphere is very lackluster and better suited for ppl looking to learn how to workout rather than ppl with fitness or an athletic backgrounds. Patrons can also be distracting as they often will ask me what to do instead of the instructor. This is okay from time to time but can be burdensome to ppl looking to focus in on their own goals and workout. Overall, I regret signing a year contract and will be be very cautious when dealing with any future contracts with uniform requirements that could impact or promote poor hygiene. Note, Rockville is a more fast pace athletic gym so there are alternatives. Gaithersburg is a very small gym and the instructor I met was not attentive or appreciative of my time when I met with him for a consultation. Note, Gaithersburg offered me a 90 dollar rate but Clarksburg charged me 129, once again showing how money centric the owner of Clarksburg is.

I was a…read moremember for a short period of time and can say, without a doubt, that the other members & one coach (not the owner) were the only reasons I stayed for as long as I did. The owner was bullish, sexist, and spouted some very bizarre statements that almost bordered on conspiracy theories (the NOAA one was my favorite). He once made a joke about his pregnant wife being a broken sandwich maker and when no one laughed, he doubled down and re-explained the "joke". Very cool, dude. The owner wrote workouts for himself and himself only and became oddly competitive with anyone he thought he *should* be able to beat. Once watched him lift way too much weight, hurt his back, and rack himself all in a span of 20 seconds all because another dude was lifting more than him. Hilarious that he also harassed another member for wearing a weight belt but, yanno, break ya spine because ego. Super embarrassing for a gym owner. The gym itself was ok - equipment was hella used and I had the odd suspicion that he had no plans to update anything. Classes were tight and crammed and honestly, he was not a great coach for anyone more experienced. Dude was completely checked out so, again, not surprised this place closed.

You will feel a part of the family instantly. I would recommend this gym to anyone!

My trainer was personable and I would use her again, I'm sure. Things I wish were different: the carpet and equipment are very old. The mats so worn around the equipment that you can see foot prints. The weight machines labels for the weights are all but coming off. The decore - as with my other LAF location on the West Coast - very, very dated (2000's). The cleaning staff seem to be present and doing their jobs but it's impossible to clean used/aged equipment. They do have a machine repair guy in regularly and that's promising (but again, the equipment is simply old and very worn). I wish there were more clocks located around the facility, especially the weight area. I guess I'm just hoping they start a renovation/remodel soon (without having to shut everything down). I promise to keep you posted as things improve (or not).
