They never answer the phone. Left multiple messages and no return calls. Absolutely ridiculous.

Absolutely love Dr. Sugar's office. They go above and beyond. Very thorough too. Even suggested blood labs when we weren't seeing issues with mri, exam and X-rays. They get to the bottom of the issue. Was also appreciative that they respect options and costs. Both kids needed boots and wraps and they fitted them in office and gave price but also suggested Amazon if we wanted to try on our own. We didn't but it was nice to know they supported options. Highly recommend

Dr David Sugar, lacks empathy…read more Myself and wife are both patients of Dr David Sugar. Previously we had a problem with Dr Sugar's staff he said to us "if you ever have a problem again, come see me and I'll take care of it". Starting two weeks ago my wife started to suffer with severe pain in her arm and shoulder. Not knowing what it was, she first visited our GP who diagnosed the condition tendonitis and suggested she visit out orthopedist, Dr David Sugar. After trying unsuccessfully for over a week, we decided that we would go to Dr Sugar's office without an appointment and wait to see him. We got there at 12:30 and was advised that if we didn't have an appointment she would not been seen by the Doctor. She explained the severity of the pain and said she would wait to see the Doctor. Fast forward 5 hours when the office manager again told us that Dr Sugar would not see her. My wife then said she only wanted to talk to him. She was told no. Though she was offered an appointment 2 days later, it became obvious it was just a ploy to get us to leave because early the next morning, we received call saying that we could no longer receive medical care from Dr Sugar and that our records were to be transferred to another doctor's office. Obviously Dr Sugar forgot his telling us "if you ever have a problem again, come see me and I'll take care of it". He did not even show the empathy one expects from a Doctor, but even from a decent man. He did not, and could not, find 5 minutes for long time patient in pain

That's about all I've got to say in a positive note. Now for the rest of the experience. Dr Lonstein has certainly been in the profession for a long time, it seems as though he is very knowledgeable. With that, he's not one to listen. In every appointment I've had, it was hard to get a word in at all, being cut off or being talked over whenever I had something to say. The communication from his office/office staff is sub-par with not only me, but the hospital as well. I was kept overnight following my surgery, Dr Lonstein came in the following morning, 9-10am to check on me. After a very brief visit, he gave me the okay to be discharged. Fast forward to nearly 5pm, I get word from a nurse that they've still not received any discharge paperwork from the Dr Office. I'm then told that this isn't the first time his office has dropped the ball, but they were aware of 6-7 other patients of the office, who experienced the same. My 10-day follow up was surprisingly brief; a couple x-rays, reviewed by the Dr, a brief back and forth about how recovery was going, then he was ready to cut me loose. I made mention of pain in my right pec/lat/shoulder, as well as pins/needles in my right arm/hand. His answer was basically, it could go away, but we'll see with time. I basically had to request physical therapy to see if we can get ahead/address my concerns. Billing has also been a hassle. After having the surgery approved by insurance, I went to SMH for my pre-surgery Appt as instructed my the Dr Office. I use the term 'instructed' loosely. I was basically given a piece of paper by office staff with a date/time, to show up to the hospital and to follow up at the Dr Office immediately afterward . At the hospital, I go through all the necessary steps, one of which was paying my insurance deductible, among others. Upon completion, I return to Dr Lonstein's office. Once there, I'm checked in. The Dr comes back, asked how my appointment went, I told him it went well and did everything on the their checklist; Covid screen, MRSA screen, labs, UA, etc. He very briefly listens to my heart, then says he'll see me in two days for the surgery. When leaving, one of staff at the front desk said I owed a $50 co-pay, I asked for what, she said for my visit. I asked if she meant the 5-min where he listened to my heart then let me leave? She ended up only charging me $5, only to get a call after leaving that she made a mistake and will get the remainder after surgery. Fast forward nearly two weeks after the surgery, I get a call from a woman at the office stating there's an issue with my insurance. She states that I have a balance of ~$1000 because the hospital took my deductible payment. I informed her that no one at their office said who to pay, that they sent me to the hospital for everything I needed to do, pre-surgery. She tells me that I'll need to call the hospital to get payment refunded because they shouldn't have been paid that portion and that I should get on the phone soon, as it'll probably take multiple calls. I informed her, as a Veteran, I followed their instructions, though vague, to the letter. She then gets short with me, mumbling something under her breathe, then something to a co-worker as she's hanging up. I've now received a bill in the mail, coincidently enough, is almost identical to what was paid to the hospital prior to the surgery. When trying to contact the office during regular business hours, I'm forwarded to an answering service, who informs me they're having issues with their phones. So I guess I've got a fight on my hands with regard to being unjustly billed. Take what you will from this information when reviewing offices to handle your spine surgery.

This is going to be a long story, but I hope this could help someone…read more My ankle was broken with a ligament issue, and I was referred to see a specialist. The main office couldn't figure out the referral form from my primary doctor for 3 days, while telling me to call them to send the right paperwork, when I didn't even know what that was. After I told them I'd find another surgeon, they magically sorted it out. (Btw, this doc doesn't know how to use any modern tech. I was at 1st appt for over 4hrs). I got my surgery scheduled with Dr. Bright very soon. I had a plate and screws inserted into my ankle, which took about 2 hours. My main issue with care was that I was not given any pain medication but told to take Tylenol, although I have no history/issue with it. I had to call the next day and plead for medication while crying in pain. Also, I kept falling during my rehab, which my PT reported to the surgeon. His note should've raised a red flag, but my surgeon or office never called. When I went to see him, he briefly looked at my X-ray and my ankle and recommended removal surgery. I ended up getting surgery from a different doctor, and he said that my ligament was torn, and this should've been easily seen from an X-ray when I was injured at the beginning, and this should've been fixed during my first surgery. Why should you have a surgeon who barely listens to you, reads your charts or notes before coming into your room, or checks your updates from PT? I'm still suffering 2 years later after 2 surgeries; this may be permanent. Do not get close there.

I got an incredibly rude receptionist who simply kept repeating that since I wasn't a current patient the office needed my records & insisted I bring them myself. At that point, she hung up on my. Guess I'll look for a different practice.

Discharged Without Notice -- Serious Communication Failure…read more I was very disappointed with Intercoastal Medical Group, Beneva Road. My doctor discharged me without any notice, even though I am 80 years old, and had been on prescribed medication from their office for a long time. Without renewal, there is a risk of serious health consequences. Communication was also difficult, and when I tried to discuss my concerns, I was told they don't share email contacts for managers or doctors. I hope Intercoastal Medical will take greater responsibility for continuity of care and clearer communication with patients.

Got established with Randy Powell, to get on anti anxiety medication. Should be pretty easy,…read moreright..Well when I went to pick up the medication he prescribed, pharmacist says, 'this is your first time being on anything like this, isn't it. Well this dose is high and Dr should have started you off at half this and worked your way up to see if you could tolerate it' So I call and speak with his nurse Sara and ask her if he could lower it and explain what pharmacy said. She asks Dr.Powell and he said that what he called in is what I need and he was not changing it. So all night I am throwing up and having heart palpitations feeling like I'm having a heart attack, because of the strong side effects! Now I have worse anxiety because I'm gun shy to take anything else. I am not impressed with his doctoring skills if he can't even do something this simple.
