Been meaning to create this yelp listing for about a year now! When walking over the Van Buren St. bridge last year - at the "way too early hour" - to the Chicago rock 'n' roll half Marathon, I looked up at this building that I've always looked up at, this time thinking: "why have I never noticed that?"
The "that" was a red rectangle on some kind of what looked like a map... a map that also looked familiar.
Come to find out I never noticed it because it had only just been unveiled in end of 2014. It was the buildings' $810,000 makeover and what I was looking at was a 36 story map of the Chicago River - the red rectangle indicating where 300 S. Wacker sits on the river.
If you ask me - pretty cool way to dress up a building's facade that was designed back in '71 to be purely functional. The original look was a plain concrete slab. Behind it are the mechanical functions all housed in one place in the building to create more office space indoors. Obviously, that still holds but now the exterior has a more interesting feature. I like when buildings are used as canvas! Of course, this new facade is now getting attention on the popular architectural cruises, rather than, "oh, that's the brown building." And at only 800K?! Good!
Speaking of moola: There's a BofA ATM in the lobby. read more
