Mr. Quincy Jones on the left, Greetings from Chicago on the right.

On a long weekend, I took advantage of my free time visiting the Palmer Square neighborhood to see the famous Greetings from Chicago mural. Former graffiti artist Victor Ving from NYC created this lovely work of art in May of 2015. To the left of the mural you'll also see a dedication to a native of the city, Chicago's R&B music legend, Mr. Quincy Jones. I learned in his lifetime, he held 28 Grammys and is one of few music artists in history winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award. That's impressive. This half of the mural space was created by the talented Argentinian street artist Cobre. I found metered street parking across from the Victory grill when you turn right on Milwaukee into Prindiville. Going midday on a weekday will guarantee you a metered parking space. 2 quarters in the meter box gave me 14 minutes to walk to the mural and take the obligatory photo souvenir. Cause you know you do it for the Gram. I do it for me and the Yelp. You're welcome.

A very low-key mural spot to take a Chicago souvenir photo. There was no one else here on a Saturday afternoon. Surrounding area could be a bit cleaner (it's right next to a rundown small parking lot), but still worth the quick stop. It's a 5 min walk from the California blue line train station.

I'm not sure that I realized this even existed! I have seen these in other towns I've visited. I stumbled upon it when I was heading to run an errand in Logan Square. Wide open parking lot... I'm not sure what the lot is for or whether there's ever folks parked here but when I visited on a Saturday afternoon it was empty. Nice mural and if you love them like I do and you're in the area, take your picture!

Located in Logan Square area in Chicago. Fun place for a pic. Lots of parking here. Not too many people around so it won't be a pain to take the pic. Nice photo souvenir. Have fun!

Very cute and amazing public mural that show cases some of Chicago popular spots and highlights. The mural is massive in a parking lot and we were fortunate that day we only had 1 car there so we took our time taking pics there. It's so lovely and well done.

Cloud Gate I'm really happy for you and Imma let you finish but The Greetings from Chicago Mural is a better! Art, especially when done correctly has the power the make a place more welcoming and inviting. This mural does just that. The area is high in traffic and buildings aren't at its top shape but there plenty of people walking around and living. The mural is located in a large vacant lot across other large murals. Just drive up to the lot and park. The lot is uneven so be careful. It was 20 minutes away from the airport with traffic and I was able to snap some shots and make it on time for my flight. Bookmark! Plan and pay a visit if you're in town!

*The five stars are for Chicago's collective building murals as a whole. It should be noted that although it's a neat addition, this 'Chicago' mural is on the lower end of the awesome scale when it comes to building-side artwork in the city. Within a two mile radius of this sign you can find an outstanding mural of Robin Williams, Vivian Maier, Hebru Brantley, Ghandi...and a slew of other greats. Not to mention the thousands of other great murals within Chicago city limits. I've posted many to my flickr account in my 'signs & murals' collection. Most photo's are mapped so you can find them: https://www.flickr.com/photos/22739418@N02/albums/72157626743689844 Cheers!

This mural is so iconic, especially if you're into the 'gram (that's instagram, for you uncool folks). I always wondered where people took these mural pictures, and lo and behold, there's a Yelp listing for it! Located about a block from the California Blue Line station, this mural is in an empty parking lot (not sure you can really park in it), near the Dollar Tree. This mural showcases several Chicago iconic momuments/symbols. When I went here, there were only a few people waiting, not too bad. Definite check out this mural out if you're in the Logan Square area. The area itself is great to stroll around (don't drive, traffic sucks) on a Saturday afternoon.

Lived 45 min from Logan square my whole life and just came here a week ago. I've been around the area a few times and didn't know how close it was! Each group took turns taking pictures. Everyone was respectful of each other. I love how the mural looks and how each letter accurately describes Chicago (s/o to the ketchup-less hotdog and deep dish pizza)! We took a few pictures for a young family and vice versa. Luckily we got there before a big bus came! The only bad part was that there was a big truck at the end of the mural. It seems to be there often? (Based on previous reviews) Must visit when in Chicago! :D

this "greetings from" Chicago mural Is a must see for tourist spots to hit up and for locals to enjoy, this is truly a piece of art. in each letter of of Chicago it has images of what Chicago is known for such has the sports teams, pizza & hot dogs, skylines just to name a few. you can find this mural in an empty parking and hope that there isn't any cars blocking the mural, if there isn't any cars blocking and its nice out then your good to get some really good pictures. this mural is Located about a block away from the California Blue Line station. here is a travelers tip: if your coming from ORD airport make this a stop if your heading towards the Chicago loop, make sure to buy daily pass if your taking mass transit through out the day it can really help if your getting on or getting off the train or bus if your looking to make stops around Chicago to see things like this.

If it wasn't for Yelp, i woundn't have known where this mural was located! I typed "things to do" on the search engine, read through the list, and recognized the mural! I GPSed the location and I felt silly how many times I've overlooked it! I snapped this picture (located in Logan Square neighborhood) in the parking lot next to the mural. It's near California Avenue blue line. Each letter has drawing inside that are unique in Chicago. Below is the letter guide I copy and pasted from the website from the artists. Do check out the website and read their journey in creating this art piece. Tourists & locals should all stop by here for a picture at this newly-built sign. The Greetings Tour has at last stopped by Chicago! This mural is located in Logan Square & you can easily get off at the CTA California Line. Beware, the area can be a little sketch and there aren't that many tourists here so you might wanna go before it gets dark.

Looking online, there appeared to be more to it…read more But it's literally about a mile of murals, up and down the overpasses, in Rogers Park, a neighborhood of Chicago. The murals focus mainly on Chicago history, history of the Rogers neighborhood, Audubon birds, and a few other subjects. The murals are nice overall, though some are poorly kept. I don't think they've been updated in a long time. My favorite was the Barack Obama mural. It's easier to walk them than drive them because there is very little parking and a ton of one way streets. I drove quite a ways out to this neighborhood, through Lakeshore Drive traffic. If you're in the area, go for it. There is a cute little pedestrian only street with a tavern and quaint shops. But don't drive from the outskirts just for this.

The goal of this project is to paint from Estes to Pratt, covering the retaining wall along the Red Line in artwork. There are still five block-long sections of this project remaining to complete. All of the works are cool. My favorite, however, is "Connect Origins to Destinations: The History of Rogers Park". It tells the story of Rogers Park from its early days as a home to Potawatomi. The Indian Boundary Line, for which Indian Boundary Park is named, is located at Rogers & Clark... unfortunately, there's a commemorative plaque praising the negotiation skills of white men with the native peoples to cede Chicago to them, but that's a story for another time. I loved learning things about this neighborhood I never knew before through this large -scale art project.

Upon a close-up inspection recently, I noticed that the eyes were not pronounced and that they seem to be expressionless as the grayness of their cast figures suggest. Almost as if it was just another day going through the same routine- wake up, go to work, eat, sleep---REPEAT. It reminds me in a way of Andy Warhol's Campbells Soup Can-we live from one meal to the next. About the Artist: Ju Ming (1938-) was originally trained as a woodcarver; however, his work evolved into sculpting in bronze in addition to other materials such as styrofoam, stainless steel as well as other mediums. He became well known in Taiwan during the 1970s and later in 1983 in New York City when he had individual exhibition of Living World Series: A Pair of Classical People at the Max Hutchinson Gallery. This piece in particular, is regarded as one of the most important works among the early production of the Living World Series. Ming's Living World Series appears or suggests that his work may evolve from his perception of the world around him; however, he has been quoted as saying that there is no one interpretation or set interpretation designated in his intention to create his sculptures. There are other parts of The Living World Series including "Imprisonment"which has drawn attention to his style of thought provoking sculpture. FYI-This Public Piece of art was purchased by Eagle Holdings, which is the parent group of the Langham Hospitality Group.
