Unfortunately, Dave is not a person who should work on a Savage 99. I sent a refurbished 1/2 Octagon / 1/2 Round barrel .32 Win Spl to him to have an 80% ready stock fitted and checkered. The stock I sent to him he said he was not able to make fit. so he put a used stock on it and sent it back to me. I attempted to do a function check on it, and could not open the action, and he had scratched the finish on the receiver. Apparently; Dave did not do a function check of the rifle or visual inspection before sending it back to me. I called him to let him know, and he sounded exasperated, but said, to send it back, he will make it right. The second go around, a previously fixed repair on the receiver was popped out, and he ordered a different receiver (with my permission). A few months later I got the rifle back, the action was not checked (again). I had to use a lot of effort to get the action to fully open. When I attempted to put rounds in to test the rifle, the rotary and timing was off. I could not chamber any ammunition. I called him again to let him know and ask if he had attempted a function check...he admitted he had not. He said to send the rifle back to him. About a month or two later I get the rifle back, the rear stock has been changed, there is a crack in the tang on the left side, the checkering on the right side of the tang is outside of the lines, and looks horrible, the action is still tight and takes considerable effort to open, and the rifle will fire with the safety engaged on the lever. Additionally; there are vice marks in the forend of the stock near the receiver. I called to talk to him about it and come up with a solution. He cut me off, said to keep my money, he is done with this rifle and then hung up. He seems to be a very nice person, but I would not trust him to work on any firearm, not even a Stevens single shot .22 with the most simple of actions. read more
