He gave me a reasonable quote for putting up the Christmas lights and we agreed. He stated at that time that the price we paid included taking down the Christmas lights in early January. When the lights were hung we had a couple issues, I wanted alternating red and white, he just put up just one color. Also I had wanted the garage outlined and that piece was missed. Ultimately, the job was made right and I paid in check when the job was complete. I've texted him on Jan 10 no response. Texted him on Jan 14 and he replied saying the crew would be there on Friday. Never showed. I texted again on Jan 24. He replied the next day saying his brother had passed. It is obvious to me that Matt's family suffered a horrible tragedy and was not in a place to respond. I can certainly empathize but wish there was more communication to just let me know the expectation beyond a "you'll hear from me when you hear from me" type response. Again, I'm sure I was the last thing on his mind. Matt has also offered to reimburse me for the added cost to take down the lights which I will take him up on.

A few years ago, I had a leak in my roof with water coming through the laundry room ceiling, and…read moreinitially called the contractor who had installed it to get an estimate for repairs. The estimate seemed high and the scope of work seemed deliberately narrow - I was told that the dryer vent needed to be replaced and that there was "no way to know for sure" if that would actually stop the leak. So, I would need to keep an eye on things when it rained and call them back out if the leak persisted. Even though the company had a decent reputation, the rep seemed to be less than trustworthy, to be polite. I found Floyd Heggie Roofing on Yelp and decided to give him a call. I was immediately impressed! After his inspection of the leak inside and the roof, his opinion was that the dryer vent did not need to be replaced, rather the area around it needed to be sealed. As water can obviously do lots of traveling before finally leaking through, he could not say 100% for certain that the dryer vent area was the culprit, although it seemed likely. There were a few other vents in the general area, and his recommendation was to go ahead and seal all of those as well, on the off chance that the dryer vent wasn't the problem. His estimate was very reasonable (less than the other company, even excluding the unnecessary new vent) and the recommended work eliminated the problem, instead of potentially setting me up for repeated service calls. When I recently purchased a new home, the inspection uncovered a few roof related items. The seller said they could not find anyone to do the repairs, possibly due to the steep pitch, but I knew exactly who to call. Once again, Floyd came through and installed a new fresh air vent for the fireplace and a new dryer vent, as well as taking a good look at the roof overall. Floyd takes excellent care of his customers and it is evident that he takes pride in his work. I have already recommended him to several friends and will continue to do so.
