This is a rescue, rehabilitate and release centre - with their main goal to return the birds and any other creatures they rescue to the wild. There are some that they do not release due to the extent of their injuries. We booked the tour online the day before (this was October so I think we got lucky) and got to see the animals up close with a guide. You can visit the centre anytime during business hours but I highly recommend booking a tour if you can do you can get more behind the scenes time. The tours run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays I believe. The tours are free but they suggest $5 min donation per person. The tour was about 1 hr 15 min but we spent another 1/2 hr in the centre, lots of great information and interactive displays for kids. The volunteers are knowledgeable and kind. A great stop; awesome people doing awesome things for wildlife.

He has been diving here forever and know every dive site like the back of his hand. The diving was very good here and we were well care for by Earl. We really enjoyed all 6 dives. The beds were comfortable and the rooms nice. We had a kitchenette room, so got some home cooking for a change on a 7 week trip. Everything works! We did have a toaster that wouldn't work and they replaced it promptly on request. There are picnic tables on the lawn between the rooms and the river and a gas BBQ is available. We used the guest laundry and the wireless internet worked consistently without problem! The highway into town is nearby, but the noise is not to bad, especially in the back. A real nice touch was the drying room for guest's sports equipment. A hot tub would have been nice, but "oh, well". All in all, a very good experience.

Walter and Haideh (pronounced like "Heidi") are the hosts, and are friendly, funny, and know how to make you feel comfortable and welcome. As dog lovers, we also had the chance to play with their two retrievers, Tip and Pocos. (We spent far too much time on the beach, throwing tennis balls into the surf, and watching the dogs race after them and bring them back.) Don't miss the food! Haideh and Walter use many local ingredients to create tasty meals for you. (I really enjoyed the zucchini jam, and the herb-mixture that Haideh used on the eggs!) The B&B can be a bit difficult to find -- be sure to bring your GPS. But it is well worth the trip! Plan to spend several days there -- once you begin to relax, you really won't want to leave too soon!

Hot tub, large bed, feather pillows, amazing tub for two, excellent hosts, Haideh and Walter, two friendly retrievers (Pocos and Tip) as friends! It was wonderful. Walter's breakfasts were delicious and creative, Haideh's passion for a "shot of health" juice in the morning, the interesting conversations in the morning... such a wonderful stay. The house is decorated with the eclectic eye of a world traveler, the VHS collection and the VCR in the bedroom was a hilarious and entertaining throwback, Walter's spontaneous singing while he tends the kitchen - all of these character elements make this place a pleasant and very comfortable departure from the norm. Lastly, while arranging this surprise weekend for us, my fiancée noted to them that we were planning our stay as a way of celebrating our recent engagement and rather than reply with "we're closed for the season" - they opened up their home for us in the off-season. We only found this out later during breakfast on the second day.... and they were quite modest about the fact. They simply stated "it was too special an occasion to *not* have us stay." It was a touching cap to the stay. We'll be back for certain.
