i'm on the border between 4 and 5 stars. By the time i finish writing this i'll probably decide. i first got this health insurance in the early 90s, around 1993 because it was the first year i had my cat and i saw an ad for pet health insurance in the LA Times Sunday magazine for it and liked the idea. i don't know how many changes in the company there were over those years, there were some name changes. i don't remember the premium, it didn't bother me. i first used it when my cat was getting older, she was about 15 when she was diagnosed with hyperthyroid. She was successfully treated with a medication that she took the rest of her life. She lived to be 20. I got my dog in early 2006, signed him up with the insurance when he was 5 months old, there was a 30 day waiting period before it went into effect. Because of a mistaken serious diagnosis by an inexperienced ER vet, my dog started out with a permanently excluded pre-existing condition and it was hard to get that cleared up but eventually it did get cleared up and the exclusion was removed. That is important because it was for my puppy's heart and the most important reason for getting the insurance for him was that his breed, cavalier king charles, has a high incidence of mitral valve disease at some point in their lives, i really needed insurance in case he got it, and he was pretty certain to get it, it varies how old they are when they get it, he didn't need treatment until he was almost 13, so he never cost the insurance company much before that. He was extremely healthy, still is, so that although he went into heart failure last year and there have been a lot of cardiologist appointments and procedures, he's better than most dogs who have MVD at his age. He has not been to his regular vet in just under a year, and before that, he hadn't been to the regular vet in 3 years, and hardly ever before that. He hasn't been terribly expensive for the insurance company, but definitely it's on the gradual increase. His prognosis is that he's not going to live very long, not possible to say, but i think under a year from what i read. i always liked the insurance, for my dog i had the Quick Care Gold Triple Coverage Plan, the premium was pretty high, went up steeply toward the end when the new underwriter took over. Then they got rid of the plan altogether. Over the years i had overall great customer support on the phone. Many reviews say that their emails went unanswered. i wouldn't even bother with email, they're available on the phone and easy to reach, i did find pressing extension #4 got smarter reps than the one specific to why i was calling (#4 is for general customer service questions or something like that). i have felt personally cared about which was shown in various ways. No claim has ever been denied, no part of a claim has been denied. If i want email documentation of a phone call, i ask them to send me one, summarizing what was discussed. The change to the new underwriter was traumatic and painful, i'm paying a lot more now, but still really glad to have it, i struggled with which plan to choose, they would give me deadlines to let them know by and i wouldn't be able to decide, all bad choices in terms of affordability and no way his only illness would be covered by anyone else. if they were going to cancel somebody, i gave them reason to cancel me. when i finally did make my choice, i was past the ultimate deadline and very worried about that, a representative followed up on it personally with his supervisor, took my number to call me back because i was supposed to be canceled and documented that my policy was renewed in email. i know when they made this change, the CS reps listened to a lot of pain and grief and anger expressed by customers, it wasn't in their power, that was clear enough but in my case they did a good job of communicating sympathy. My dog was already diagnosed with mitral valve disease and was having periodic cardio evaluations during the years before the new underwriter (Praetorian?) took over, and the prognosis was well known for mitral valve disease, especially for his breed, most of them die from it. When i first got my dog i called them and asked about it and was told yes, we cover that. That has turned out to be true. When i gave them reason to cancel me, they didn't. Since then, their new online claims thing started and i do love that, though it's had glitches but i appreciate that those are being fixed, only about one left now. Processing is lightening fast, my last claim, earlier this month was paid one week after i filed it, payment sent electronically to my bank account. This reduces the stress of having a sick baby, appreciated. 5 stars. read more

watch out! claims seem to disappear into thin air when submitted to 24petwatch and you end up waiting for a long time before anything gets processed. they say 25-30 days is the average wait time but it turns out to be months and months before anything even gets started on. and be prepared to love redundancy because you will have to submit the same claim more than twice. i got my pet insurance with petcare 11 years ago and they used to be really good. if there was ever an issue of anything missing, they would follow up with the vet that sent in the claim to get the missing information. unfortunately this has changed. ever since it switched to 24petwatch, the "care" was not just dropped from the name but from the service itself. it's sad to see a good service turn bad. i used to have no issues with claims but now after reading previous reviews, i am seeing that there is a pattern: - they claim that information is always missing therefore the claim is rejected and you end up waiting for nothing unless you call to follow up only to find out that nothing has been processed. -they say they notify you via e-mail if a claim is rejected due to missing info. -there is never an e-mail notification received from them. -when you call the claims department, you are greeted by an apathetic person who just keeps repeating the same useless information. that your claim was not processed due to missing info. -all they can tell you about your rejected claim is the service date. not the amount of the claim, not the name of the clinic you went to, and not even what was missing. they apparently delete all the details as soon as a claim is rejected so now you have to figure out which vet it was that you visited a month ago. and if you had to go to several ones, then you have to do a lot of searching. -when you ask to speak to a supervisor or manager, you are told that no one is available and that they will get them to call you back in 24-48 hours. - these past 2 months i had to go to 5 different veterinarians, some of them specialists. there were 8 different claims from 8 different vet visits submitted by 5 different receptionists. apparently none of them were received. how is that even possible? are all of these clinics suddenly incompetent? the only common factor in this equation is 24petwatch. seriously sad to see that this is what the service has gone down to...majorly downhill. i have never been so upset as to write a bad review for any business in the past but this has been a repetitive thing and i felt the need to warn others about this. i really hope you bring the good service back. read more

This company seeks to take advantage of people who adopt pets from their local Humane Society, which is disgusting. I was given 30 days of free insurance with the adoption and received an email saying I could get 15 additional free days if I called in. When I called, the rep I spoke to asked if I wanted to "reserve" a spot to extend my dog's insurance when the 45 days were up. I said no thank you. He said reserving a spot did NOT place me under contract and that there was no obligation to actually buy the insurance. He said the point of reserving was to ensure that if I did decide to buy the insurance, I could, because the dog would become ineligible for coverage should the vet find any health issues at the free vet visit you get when you adopt with the Humane Society. He acted very interested in hearing about me and my new dog, asking all kinds of questions about how she's adjusting to her new home, presumably to make it seem like 24PetWatch really cares about animals. I made him repeat to me TWICE that reserving a spot did not place me under obligation to purchase the insurance. He said no, there was not any contract involved. He then said he needed a card number on file to make the reservation, even though I was under no obligations at that time. A month and a half later, I received a stack of papers in the mail from the company, and the very first page read, "This document is evidence of a CONTRACT between the Insured and the Insurer." It said my coverage was scheduled to begin in 3 days, at which time, I would be billed my premium. Luckily 24 PetWatch takes calls on Saturdays because the letter arrived on a Friday. Had it arrived one day later, I may not have been able to call in time to cancel the policy since they're closed on Sundays. The guy I spoke to said he cancelled the policy, and I would not be billed. I never should have been scheduled to be billed to begin with! I went to the bank to cancel my card to be safe after reading the horrific online reviews this company has received. I certainly can't trust that a company that insists I'm not under contract and then mails me a contract will not fraudulently charge my debit card. Now I get to wait 7-10 days for my new card. All because I adopted a dog who was dropped off at a shelter by her owners of 9 years. read more

I own 7 pets and insured all with pet watch, paid my monthly always worrying about the what if? Over the years I had 4 claims, not one was paid out. Our female dog had an internal infection, Claim not paid, why? They will not insure a dog for any female problems if they're Not spayed. Our Male dog was diagnosed with a heart murmur, tests not covered, procedures not covered, meds not covered. Remainder is 75% coverage, minus 300.00. My claim payout Big Fat Zero! Now my 12 yr. old cat is diagnosed with diabetes. Cost me 900. All my pets were very healthy. Nothing other than usual regular yearly check up and shots. Insurance company wants an extensive medical report. My vet submitted it and apparently it's not extensive enough. My vet is fed up. I've continue to pay $128.00 per month for her. Now that I needed help, they giving me the runaround. My vet is fed up, he doesn't know what else they want. The initial claim was 899.00 submitted 5 months ago, the deductible is 300.00, The vet charged me 75.00 for the reports. I paid out 500.00 in fees insurance since I submitted the claim. Out of pocket 1500.00 between initial claim and money I've continued to pay out since. WHAT A RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Save your money. Open up a pet account, put away monthly what you can afford and you'll have it when you needed. The aggravation of knowing that for years I paid out money for the emergency and every single time NOTHING. I don't know about this company for pet insurance, so I want to say upfront that my rating has nothing to do with pet insurance. It has to do with the microchip. I want to start by saying, that if you cannot afford $49.95 for this service then maybe you should rethink having a pet. They are providing a locating service. This requires hiring people and, yes, paying them. In other words, if you want to use this service. you need to pay for it. I would like to laugh at the individuals who give poor ratings because this company charges a fee of $49.95 for the LIFETIME of your pet. This is a company who relies on profits to continue. It is ridiculous and laughable for anyone to think that this company can provide this service for free. Yes, you have to pay to have your vet pay to put in the microchip. However, you are paying this to the vet and NOT to 24 hr pet watch. ALL companies that do this service charge. All vets who microchip charge. Why would anyone believe that you should get this for free is quite laughable. If you cannot afford $49.95 for the life of your pet for this very valuable service, then most likely you cannot afford to have a pet in the first place. Grow up! ZERO STARS ZERO STARS ZERO STARS! Shame on you 24 Pet Watch! Hiding a fee and refusing to update basic, yet critical information until this fee is paid? What does that pay for anyway, the salary of an employee who only pretends to update your information when you call it in? When someone finds a pet the first thing they look for is the phone number. The resulting phone call brings instant piece to a frantic owner of a lost family member. Without it, owner and pet may never be reunited. All for the want of a dollar by a greedy, useless company! In this economy to boot, surely there are plenty of people who couldn't pay that fee if they wanted to. Shame! Shame! Shame! I can't speak for the insurance at 24 Pet Watch but I'd say their microchip service speaks volumes. As a Petplan member for many years I've had nothing but excellent service and can recommend them with great confidence. There are plenty of other registries out there that will accept your pet's microchip #, some require fees and some never do. The ones I've seen thus far that do charge are up front about any costs to you, unlike 24 Pet Watch. A quick search will give you plenty of alternatives to look into for yourself. read more

We have been using 24 PetWatch for close to 20 years. We have always been taken care of by agents who really do care about animals and understands how upsetting it can be for us, the pet's human companions, when our pet is sick and needs a great deal of help. As an example, our beloved Oriental Shorthair was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. He needed a huge amount of veterinary care from time to time, requiring hospital overnight stays,and the cost of his care was extremely high. Fortunately, we had chosen the Champion care policy which helped us so much to be able to give our kitty the help he needed. Payment was prompt and the support we received helped to give our kitty a the chance to continue a good quality of life having the coverage that made that possible. I trust that 24 Pet Watch cares for us and our pets. This company offers an excellent range of insurance coverage . Awful, awful, awful, if you do not want to lose your money, stay away from their insurance. They turned down my dog's claims saying they were due to her pre-existing condition. She had a stomach problem, got treated, recovered, all happened several months ago before I owned her. Dogfood fed before me was a different brand, so she had a tummy problem again - not a big deal, but for them, suddenly it's a serious pre-existing condition. Even my vet was shocked how greedy they're. I made a protest (and they make sure the protesting process is lengthy and difficult) If you try to talk to a customer rep, you're on hold for good 30 min. and there's no guarantee someone will answer. If someone takes your call, you're lucky. Frankly, I feel so much better if I just cancel my membership and switch her insurance company. What they claim they cover is "if you're lucky"! Make sure they won't come up with any slimy excuse to turn down your claim. I won't ever consider their service again. read more

I have had 24Petwatch insurance for all my pets for 4 years. I decided on insurance the day one of my dogs died. At the time, I did not have insurance and she had cancer twice. Her treatment bills were outstanding. I decided that day to insure all my pets and made the phone call. I currently have 3 dogs and 2 cats. I feel confident they will cover my claims quickly and professionally. The pet portal makes it so easy. I have one dog with congestive heart failure and the bills are substantial. This peace of mind is something you can't really imagine until you have a sick pet. Having to decide whether you can afford lifesaving treatment without insurance would keep me up at night. I suggest to all my friends to get insurance before a condition is preexisting. I have given out 24PW phone number to many friends and to people at my vets office. 24PW turns around claims quickly and I receive my checks before the credit card bill comes in. I can say this company is a crock of bull... I bought my policy and paid a years worth of coverage to only find out six months later that they wouldn't cover my cat's diabetes. My cat showed symptoms of something was wrong on two days prior to the policy affective date which was noted on the vets paperwork. So since I was being a good pet parent and telling my vet the truth to ensure that my pet got the best care I got denied coverage. My mind you my cat never showed any signs of diabetes before me taking him to the vet on that day nor was he ever diagnose with it before. So I guess I am suppose to be some kinda Vet and know automatically that my cat has diabetes. GREAT JOB 24 PetWatch you just condemned my cat to a slow painful death! I adopted a miniature poodle from a shelter. At the age of two, he developed bilateral cataracts. Fortunately, I had chosen to keep the insurance offered at the shelter. My puppy had cataract surgery in 2016. He requires follow-up and maintenance for the rest of his life. He's four. 24 hour petwatch has always paid on this claim (and allergy shots as well as sick visits) in a timely manner. In fact, my identity was stolen and I didn't remember that the card stolen was cancelled. When I called 24 pet watch, even though my premium was late, they continued to honor our policy. I really can't say enough about how great their customer service is. I filed many claims and they've never lost one. Thank you 24 hour pet watch. I am not sure what caused the problems for 2 others, but I have had two great experiences with 24Petwatch. The first was when my dog got into some antifreeze, fortunately we caught him in the act and got him to the vet right away, the bill was $1200, of which 24PetWatch was responsible for 70%. I submitted the paperwork and got the check in about 4 weeks. The 2nd was when by dog got cancer of the hip this year (2011) and needed to have his left rear leg removed, cost: $3,600. I submitted all the paper work, and once again, about 4 weeks later I received my check for 70% of the cost. In both cases, once I submitted the paperwork, that was it, no phone calls, no additional requests, no contact, nothing, the check just showed up in the mail about 4 weeks later. read more

Insurance is great when you need it, and I need it now. Well worth the cost considering I'm literally filing a claim every week for what could be a year more. I have not had any issues with customer service, in fact, everyone has been really nice and I got help when needed, questions answered, and had my name on my account updated without issue. I'm sad to see the other ratings. I think you also have to cut people a break considering the pandemic. Lots of things have had to change and it takes time to work out the kinks when companies shift dramatically. I can assure you this company is not a scan or terrible. Mason was extremely ill and we had no idea of what was wrong, Kiren was extremely helpful and walked me though the policy and process, I had to request a pre approval, a call was place to the Vet who provided this however there was information missing, Kiren called me to let me know the pre approval was incomplete and she shared she had already reached out to the vet. Amazing service, I already have confirmation of the claim being received by the insurance company which is over $7000. Our dog just recently bolted after a deer and became missing in action. My wife and I could not find our little dude. It was not like our little fur ball not to return right away, since he is very well trained. I knew that there could only be two outcomes, either he was dead on the side of a road or someone took him in for the night. After an entire night and morning of searching, My Pet Health/ 24 Pet Watch notified us that a kind person had our fur ball and that we could be reunited. The rescuer took our dog to the local vet where they scanned the microchip and got our contact info. I highly recommend this company for microchipping your pet. We are so grateful. We have had experiences with other pet insurance companies but have absolutely no complaints with 24PetWatch. I am very pleased with the quality and responsiveness of their customer support and claim settlement process. One example I would like to share is a positive insurance claim reassessment after the 180 day limit for filing claims. I realized, after the deadline, that our veterinarian had mistakenly given an incorrect timeline, in his medical notes, giving rise to a medical per-condition exclusion. I wrote to the 24PetWatch underwriter and provided them further clarification on the matter and they promptly approved the claim, even after the claim filing deadline. read more

I've had a policy since my dog was a puppy (~8 years). They are great! Especially their claims portal- so easy to file a claim and they turn around reimbursement pretty quickly via direct deposit into my bank account. Also, if I ever have questions their customer service agents are very friendly and (more importantly) helpful. The policy pay for themselves if your pet ever has an issue (I certainly don't with that) but the peace of mind is well worth the cost. I can attest to this as my fur baby is in great health but has had a few ACL's and copper storage disease treatment (she is good now). Aging- highly recommended :-) read more

Can not stress enough on how important it is to get insurance for our fur babies! Had my one cat fracture her arm, was in the hospital for 3 days (needed an operation). My boy cat got so stressed without his sister, got urinary obstruction, got it a second time and last had to get operated. They've always seem to have urinary issues due to stress (have a one year old, he is a little terror). I would of been done if I did not have insurance. 24PetWatch is super quick and understanding.
