So disappointed in the haircut I got from Jodi in December 2023. I had been seeing her for almost three years too. It's three months ago, but I still want to cry over the cut she gave me because I struggle EVERY time I wash and style. I had started to see her because I read that she was good at helping folks grow out bad haircuts. I had finally gotten all of the messed up layers and bad texturing grown out only to walk out of her salon over $200 lighter in my bank account and with a worse haircut then the reason I even started at this salon. I have had some really crappy hair experiences since moving to Oregon. My hair has been fried, then fried again and then trashed/fried again. I had my hair cut by Bethany last week. I debated writing a review, because she is a very sweet person, but after sitting with the cut for a few days I thought it was important for others to know what they might be getting into. Ultimately my desires and concerns were completely ignored by Bethany in preference of what she decided she wanted to do. When I expressed concerns during the cut I was met with a joke of how I was "Stifling [her] creativity." There were multiple points when Bethany saw I was uncomfortable with how the cut was progressing to which she told me I needed to relax and trust her. At the end of the cut she saw how upset I was, looked again at the pictures I had shown her initially, admitted mistakes were made, and said she wouldn't charge me. She also asked me if I had a beanie. During the consultation I showed pictures of hair styles I liked, mentioned I liked light/wispy bangs but would like less of them, showed her pictures of my own hair cut and styled how I like it to be, and mentioned that I didn't want highly layered hair because my hair flips up in the back. I also have a lot of fine wavy hair that I blow dry straight when I go out and let air dry when I'm home. I explicitly expressed I did not want a shag hairstyle and prefer to look somewhat conservative. She cut my dry hair with a razor, which I have never had before, so now I have a lot of layers. My bangs are extremely heavy, start much further back, and are bowl cut-like. My hair is now much more tangled than before and I feel strands snap whe I try to brush my hair or run my fingers through it. I'm worried that the razor has severely damaged my hair. When I attempted to blow dry my hair I found it will not lay straight and follows the cowlick; curling under on one side of my hair and curling out on the other. I had a hat cut previously by Stephanie, who was fine. I would give her 3-4 stars. I went to Bethany because I needed a cut in a hurry since my ends were in rough shape. I went to get a haircut by Bree Ritter, the so called "shag queen". I had been following her and other shag haircut stylists on Instagram and had hoped, especially for the amount that I was charged, to have a better experience, not to mention haircut. This turned out to not be the case. We consulted before the cut, and I explained that I wanted a soft shag, not a mullet type cut and that there were several cuts I had seen on her Instagram page that were what I was leaning toward. I was hoping we understood one another, as she claimed that she understood. No hair wash is included in this expensive hair cut, which I found quite off putting and weird. Then, she spent the first several minutes of my cut distracted and chatting with the stylist next to us. All the while, I was watching as my haircut was not taking the direction I had hoped. She sliced a few bits of my hair with her razor and then asked me what else I wanted for her to do. I did I tell her that my bangs were too long, and that it didn't seem as though the haircut was "done". Four days later, I was still struggling with trying to like this "new cut" and realizing that it was just not cut correctly or well. I emailed her to ask if I could come back in for her to shorten my bangs and for her to take a look at the parts that just didn't look or seem right. Her response was that it would cost me $30 for a bang trim and that her time was not free and that she had already provided the service we had agreed upon. What? Evidently, I found myself with an egotistical stylist who is more invested in collecting payment than actually making it right with her customers. What had started as an enthusiastic anticipation of a lovely hair transformation has become a huge and expensive disappointment. read more

Nikki is amazing! I was in need of a stylist after moving to Portland last year, and after a few meh cuts at other salons, I've found my go to stylist! Not only has she taken me from brunette to this shimmery silver/blue haired mermaid, but she knew handle my hair and cut it to look fuller. I saw Amber Kelley for a cut/color today and am incredibly happy that I did! First of all, the space that the salon is located in is breathtaking from the moment you walk in- a cool and spacious loft with a very relaxed vibe and a great mix of vintage and modern furnishings. Amber and the rest of the staff (including the adorable dog Coco!) were extremely welcoming from the moment I walked in. Amber also exceeded my expectations - she spent time getting to know me and my hair and then made suggestions to my hair color and style that truly "upped my game" and made me look more stylish/beautiful when I saw the finished results! The cut she gave me also works well with my hair texture, thus minimizing the time I need to spend styling it daily (which to me is the sign of a great hair cut!). I've been going here for a couple years now, at first my stylist was very attentive to my hair and what I wanted. My hair has been through quite the journey and unfortunately I'm back at square one again with uneven sides. It took me a long time to grow out my right side to be the same as my left side due to bleach damage, and yesterday I went in asking for a trim of my layers and ended up getting a full haircut with a severely overly layered right side of my hair, while my left side barely got cut at all. Bethany *always* gives me a haircut that I absolutely love. Such a bargain for the price--with haircuts, I've found I often get bad cuts for less than $60 and anything above that is unfortunately not always get-what-you-pay-for. With Bethany, I always leave happy and love my cut even more in the days and weeks to follow, so I can't begrudge the $90 (with tip). I was really impressed by the photos of this salon and decided to take a chance with Natalie! My hair has been thinning out and requires a certain cut to keep it looking full. I thought that I was clear about this, but instead my hair was thinned out more (purposefully, because it created "weight") and styled in a way that I do not usually style it because in emphasizes the hair loss. Natalie definitely tried her best to make me happy and style it in a new, natural way for me, but it didn't look professional how I needed it to for upcoming interviews and positions. I was devastated when I went to style my hair without the loads of products she used to only find it thin and dull. It was so embarrassing for me to go on interviews with my hair looking so thin. I called the salon to receive at least a partial refund for my experience. Natalie offered for me to come back in, get some free product on her (which I felt was very kind), but I ended up having an interview schedule over the time and couldn't make it. Honestly, I was scared to get back in the chair again since my hair was thinned and cut short in a way that brought me so much embarrassment. I will not be going back. I recently had Geneva do my hair and makeup for my elopement photos. Before I found Geneva at 220 salon, I was having a hard time finding a salon/stylist with the flexibility I needed. Since our photo shoot was dependent on weather, wild flower blooms, etc, I didn't have a set date for the photo shoot initially. Geneva was gracious enough to ultimately do my hair and makeup on her day off. She was amazingly flexible, responsive, and so patient with me- I ended up changing the time on her about 3 times! She did a great job with my hair and makeup. She was open to feedback after my trial run and incorporated all the changes I asked for on the day of the event. We ultimately had our photo shoot in a very windy location and my hair held up amazingly! I loved working with Geneva and highly recommend her. Well, she did it again. I'm officially following this girl wherever she goes. If you're looking for a cut and color that dazzles, Amber Kelley is your girl. Im not sure how she did it, but I left with my hair looking longer (thats some sort of voodoo magic) and fuller AFTER a hair cut. How is that real life? Ive battled super soft fine hair for most of my life. Its on its own program. Amber takes the time to explain what types of products are important to maintain salon style at home. Ladies, buy the product. Its a worthwhile investment. At the end of the day, its ALWAYS worth it. Your cut will be great without the product, but its next level with the added investment. I'm looking forward to our next session to do some sassy color and I know the cut will always be fabulous. I'm glad I finally bit the bullet and got a hair cut. I didn't realize how much of a styling rut I had gotten into! I grew up in the Cosmetology industry, and stuck my toe in for a bit too; let me tell you, Amber knows what she is doing. She is well-educated, creative yet methodical, and most importantly, she listens. She's super easy to talk to as well! I came in for a change. I didn't come in with any pictures, just my wild mess of red curls. I explained that this is my hair's natural texture and this is what we need to work with. MELISSA DORRES has been doing my hairs for like, 10yrs now. Yikes. Girls got style and knows what she's doing with her magical shears. The salon itself is small and comfortable while at the same time pretty much stocked full of beautiful people 5 days a week. I digress, Melissa has everything you want in a hairdresser. She listens, pampers, has vision and there's a very soothing, confident way she handles herself that makes YOU feel confident she's got it. At the same time, she's energetic, excited and passionate about what she does (which makes my little body, quite jealous). Over the 5 years I've been with her she's taken me from golden blonde, to white blonde, to ombre and everything in between. Meryl Meyer is new to 220, but started doing my hair years ago in Chicago. All I can say is this girl is amazing and I pretty much refuse to go to anyone else. Color, up-dos, cuts- I've never seen someone leave her chair unhappy and I send most people I know to her. I'm sure if it's esp or a mind meld, but she has a knack for listening and creating a style that suits each of her clients' individual needs. From what I gather, that's just the general MO for most of the stylists there- everyone is friendly, willing to listen, extremely talented and willing to go that extra mile. I saw Nicola yesterday. I came in looking a mess - hadn't had my hair done in MONTHS because of a psychotic school schedule. I basically told her I wanted to be blonder, and to cut off the unhealthy - and with that, she gave me exactly what I wanted without even know what exactly it is I did want. I was also surprised at how beautiful their salon is. You walk through a somewhat dark building, and when you get to their office.....you open the door and are flooded with light! And this was even yesterday when you felt like it was night time at 1pm. I loved it. I loved the whole experience. And, most importantly, I left feeling gorgeous. read more

Andrea is the best! She's been cutting my hair for about three years now. Not only does she give me the expertly layered, easy-to-manage haircut that has become my signature, but she also provides such good company! It's like she's my buddy or something...we talk about each other's love lives and cats, and she knows my friends because she cuts their hair, too! That's how good she is! But suppose Andrea all of a sudden becomes a hot Hollywood stylist and is booked up for months doing Natalie Portman's hair for the next Black Swan movie (when Nina comes back from the dead to play the Sugar Plum Fairy)...I'm sure all the other stylists at 220 are pretty good, too - I can tell by their sensational haircuts. Ok, so my hair was becoming a silver halo, which is disturbing on so many levels, the least being that I'm not very holy. So when I went in for my next cut, Melissa hooked me up with Liberty for a color. Well, not really a color, but a lift to my self and a dash to my silver halo. Liberty is a master (maestra). She wove in bits of gold and red so beautifully that when done, you couldn't tell I had just spent 2 hours in the chair. It just looked natural. Isn't that what color is supposed to be, natural? Thank you Liberty! On another note, I got so tired of my husband and son getting those lousy walk in haircuts, I shanghaied them to Melissa. They were even more handsome after the fact. I've been to Salon 220 a few times and I've had great experiences seeing Rachel. She is super fun and sweet! I am really picky about my hair. She listens to what I want and gives me feedback on what I can expect in regards to my hair. I always bring in pictures and she lets me know what is possible. I'm a blonde and I'm very particular about the color of blonde and the placement of foils for my highlights. I have really fine hair and she has done a fantastic job with the cuts too!!
