You would be better served going to a genuine provider who puts more emphasis on patient care and less emphasis on profit. I have been going to Family Medicine of Merrillville for over a year. I was originally in "Dr. Luke's" care. He is an LPN who got a job elsewhere and I was subsequently assigned to LPN Weronika Lugo when he left. I had two visits with Weronika Lugo. The first was on March 12, 2026. The second was on May 21, 2026. During these visits the subject of additional medications came up that I needed. When I asked about those Weronika Lugo's response was to "Take charge of your healthcare and do it yourself." This is a curious answer for a caregiver to give to a patient. Over the course of two visits she gave me this exact response at least six times to various questions. A reasonable interpretation is that she doesn't want to deal with me. And I'm fine with that. I started looking for another doctor's office. I started having problems getting my prescription refilled. After several phone calls to the pharmacy and the insurance company my wife determined that the prescription had been approved on the wrong prescription insurance plan that was employer based. The insurance company insisted on dealing with the doctor's office and it was not something that I could get done myself. The office manager's response at Family Medicine of Merrillville was to acknowledge that it would take an employee a considerable amount of time on the phone with the insurance company to get this mistake corrected. Then she said this wasn't an expenditure she was willing to make and if I wanted my prescription I needed to pay $300 to their office to get it filled instead of just paying the $25 copay at the pharmacy. That is when I knew for certain they really don't want me as a patient. Their main concern isn't the welfare of their patients. It is selling drugs out of their refrigerator for maximum profitability. I was prepared for indifference. But what happened when I went to a legitimate healthcare provider and left Family Medicine of Merrillville was entirely unwarranted. They listed my prescription as "no longer medically necessary" in my records to prevent me from getting it under insurance coverage at a pharmacy since I opted not to buy it directly from them. They did this in July when I had not had a visit to their office since May. I had already gone to another LPN for a checkup and gotten a prescription elsewhere. Family Medicine of Merrillville intentionally kneecapped me on the way out the door. I don't know if this is illegal or unethical but I am reporting it to whatever regulatory authority I can find whose jurisdiction covers it. My recommendation is a hard pass on Family Medicine of Merrillville. There are some good people who work there but the people who direct and focus the work don't have your best interests in mind. They are the kind of people who would have been selling Fen-phen out of the trunk of a car in 1995.

My first day to see Dr. Jones was on Thursday, his staff got me in when I asked. He had openings well before the day I requested and they went through each thoroughly on the phone with me ever before meeting me. Upon arrival I pulled into the parking lot, which was a little hard to find if you aren't from this area. Sad thing is you all well know I'm a transplant, but I've been here for about 7 years. (Shame shame) the second time was a breeze. Which was today and I'll talk about that later. I walked into the facility expecting the absolute longest wait time in the world because there was a few people in the front. To my surprise, things flowed as smooth as butter on a fat juicy steak seared to perfection! Mmm mmm. Everyone was all smiles and they weren't fake in the slightest! These were genuine. Soothing and refreshing as southern sweet tea! I'm liking this doctor even before I met him. From the receptionist, to the secretary, the M.A.s, the nurses, medical student/resident, then oh my goodness!!! The doctor. As fine as a gently aged wine. Perfection at its best. Served up strait. This guy! I admire already. I fell to a million pieces with the first handshake. Baffled! You all don't understand the absolute importance of not only having a great doctor, but to have his whole staff to be knowledgeable and kind at the same time. This is truly a unicorn in the medical profession. It shouldn't be, but it is. And to actually see one in person and to be a patient here it's made me feel 10 times better by just being abled to know, I'm SAFE. The good doc has no idea. But I plan to have my family to transfer to his and his staffs care. I hope they are as happy to receive us as I was to receive them. A small overview of services. I went in first time visit and was seen within 10 minutes of walking through the door. Let me explain "seen". I was walked back by the M.A. Weight, vitals, previous surgeries, medications. The doctor and medical student/resident (please forgive me if this title is wrong) I felt dreadful that day which is why I didn't write it then. If I had it would have been 5 stars and the explanation would have just been a smiley face. Anyway they came in introducing the doctor and she stayed. She was very kind and professional and very thorough. We chatted it up and then came the doc. By the time he got to me I was feeling really horrible. But he and his staff assured me and made the most of the time I was in there. For a first time visit, it was a lengthy one, but if you are ever rushed through a first time visit with a doctor, please be very weary or their practices. Most of us who care about practicing in years to come DONT rush. He told me I would need to have labs drawn and I could come back next week or even on SATURDAY, yes I said the forbidden word, SATURDAY. They do labs in the clinic. And the nurse was soooooo kind. I really liked her. And I didn't even feel the "pinch". :) Now you may understand why I compared his facility and services to a fine steak dinner. Have you had a steak dinner that was presented very beautifully and it turned out to taste like nothing and it was tough and chewy. And the wine was bitter and wasn't even good enough to stain a white carpet. Well I have. And that's the same thing you get with a lot of CORPORATE doctors. I didn't say all! But I've found a hidden gem right here in town and I'm proud to say I'm his patient! They are at the frontlines and play a critical role on your care team. I went in for a procedure and was privileged to have these ladies on my care team. Their compassion, professionalism, and overall knowledge was appreciated and needed. I was supposed to go to a different facility but landed here due to staffing shortages related to the omicron variant. The walls in each room had beautiful murals. The artist used soothing colors and beach themes that set the tone for each patient's visit. This facility is located near the Indiana dunes, so the mural themes are appropriate. From the moment I walked in the door to register, all staff encountered was top notch. I can't express my gratitude enough!

I finally got in, we sat down &went through everything, I wasn't super comfortable, but I figured I would go ahead and get the epidural shot anyway because I was in excruciating pain & needed it. To get a little personal, I have anxiety when it comes to any medical procedures and I made the doctors aware of the situation so they suggested I get sedation. A week and a half later I finally get in to have my shot done. It was hotter than Hades in that office & was even hotter once you got back in the patient area. The bed they put me in was baking in the sun. It had to be nearly 80° and then they put a warm blanket on me. I sit down and my anxiety rampant. My blood pressure was high. My heart rate was high, and I had a Slightly elevated temperature, which are all symptoms of anxiety. They took my vitals every five minutes in a crowded room with constant beeping a blood pressure cuff going off every minute and then constantly telling me to calm down. As the timer went off every five minutes, I anxiety got worse. My Elevated temperature did go down to 99.4. And if you read the CDC says a fever is considered anything over 100.4. The doctor, then rudely comes over and tells me he cannot continue with the procedure because I must have some sort of infection. And then told me it was not possible to have an elevated temperature from anxiety. I've experienced this numerous times before I have been told by different doctors that it is completely possible to have an elevated temperature due to my anxiety, and I have read numerous studies from medical journals as well as information from the CDC that very clearly states heightened anxiety can cause an increase in temperature. When I explain this, he basically told me I was crazy. It wasn't possible. I have an infection. I have to go home. The minute I get home I take my temperature and it is a cool 98.7°. Just like I said no fever no infection it was caused by my anxiety. I called the office afterwards and ask them if I could reschedule my procedure but with a different doctor and she told me it was against policy and they wouldn't let me do so. After complaining she said she would talk to her supervisor and get back to me by the end of the day or at least the next morning at the latest. No call yet. Unprofessional, beyond ridiculous and I would say never come here and never see this doctor again I'm a little worried that he doesn't know that any of that is actually possible. Makes you wonder what else this doctor doesn't know.
