Called to sign up for a motorcycle safety class as a first-time rider and was met with nothing but rudeness. The front desk lady was unhelpful and discouraging from the start. She did not offer the information I needed and her attitude made me feel like I was an inconvenience for even calling. Not exactly the welcome you hope for when you are excited about learning something new. This school should know that a lot of people calling are beginners who are nervous and just need some basic guidance. That kind of front desk attitude can and will turn people away. I'm 19 years old with little to no prior experience, but I was able to complete the course and pass successfully. Our instructor, Pierre, is a very unique individual--strict yet fair. His rules may seem a little unusual at first, but ultimately, they are for our safety. Learning with him was a bit intimidating in the beginning, but over time I got more comfortable and confident. The exercises were fun and engaging. However, one area that could be explained better is the list of items students need to bring. It's important that students come prepared with the right shoes and socks. Helmets and gloves are provided. On the second day, we had a different instructor named David, who was extremely helpful and encouraging. The experience felt like a "good cop, bad cop" balance between Pierre and David, which worked out well. The evaluation is essentially a review of the exercises we practiced, so as long as you apply what the instructors teach, you're well-prepared to pass. Overall, it was a great experience. I will document my experience here so others can gauge for themselves whether to take your motorcycle course with 2 wheel safety training. I signed up for the two day course. There were two instructors, David and Pierre. As one of the other reviewers said, there is kind of a good cop bad cop vibe going on here, with David being the more patient, calm instructor while Pierre quite literally resembles a marine corp drill instructor that won't stop yelling at you and shouting orders. Maybe he actually was one, I don't know. (It might be worth noting that instructor Pierre was also mentioned in several other reviews, with a similar sentiment.)As someone with no previous experience on a motorcycle, I had some trouble in one of the exercises. Admittedly it was a me problem because other students were able to complete the exercise with no issues. As I was doing my best to follow Pierre's orders, the motorcycle just refused to behave the way I wanted it to, and Pierre just got increasingly agitated. Here's roughly what happened: The goal was to get the motorcycle to roll slowly forward by slowly releasing the clutch. As i slowly released the clutch, the motorcycle would roll forward but only for a few seconds before shutting off. I retried this a few times, each time getting the same thing. Then Pierre came and yelled, "What did I tell you to do!?" "Do as I say!" Whenever I tried asking a question or asking for clarification, he would immediately cut me off and shout "you are not listening!" Or "do not talk back to me!". This made it practically impossible for me to ask for clarifications and pinpoint why the motorcycle behaved the way it did. In my mind I was doing exactly what I was asked to do, but apparently not, and I had no clue what was done wrong. So we just went into this viscous cycle of me doing something, not getting the expected result, then not getting any feedback, then being yelled at while asked to go through the same procedure again. This cycle repeated for a few times, before Pierre dismissed me from class(no refund, of course). Maybe the idea is that if you yell at somebody enough they will suddenly know what they did wrong. I don't know how sound/effective this particular teaching methodology is, but this is the methodology that instructor Pierre employs, and if you feel like it would work for you, then go ahead and sign up. Overall I'm not happy with my experience at 2 Wheel Safety training, and for anyone who's never been on a motorcycle before, I call on you to think twice and shop around first before signing up for a class here. I can't comment on the rationale behind yelling at students to go again instead of actually explaining what the student is doing wrong, but supposedly one has to go through training to become an instructor and there must be a reason why the instructors are trained to teach this way (unless it's just Pierre, but I don't know. First time taking a motorcycle class and I have no idea how other instructors teach). And of course, your mileage may vary and I'm only offering my own experience. read more

I took the beginner class about a week and a half ago. I had never ridden a motorcycle before, but have spent a LOT of time of bicycles, so I'd say my balance was pretty on point to begin with. Still, learning how to manage all the controls was the hardest part. People who ride motorcycles a lot make it look easy, but it's HARD. It takes a lot of practice, especially learning when you're in your 40's... it's a completely new type of education for your nervous system. I passed the class and still need a ton of practice. I don't think I'm road ready but I'm also realistic and realize that even though I can now ride a motorcycle, I'm not an expert yet haha. Looking forward to practicing on my own in parking lots and would definitely consider taking their intermediate class once I'm ready. Thanks a ton to Chris in the classroom and Dave on the range. I got dismissed today at the beginning of the range course. I was taking an old bike. There are new models but a little higher for me. As a zero experience person, I found the gearshift kind of loose and cannot feel the N gear(it's like totally no feedback between 1&2. Is that normal?). Then the trainer came to me. It's very stressful. The trainer just kept asking me "Is it neutral now?" "Do as I said""Do you understand English?" It was scary. I was planing to step down into 1 and lift a bit to try again(please let me know if that's wrong). And I also wanted to explain it but never got the chance. At that time he just kept repeating those questions. My brain was blank and ... Yeah I was out. I wish I could yelled back at that time. After leaving my honest review of the motorcycle training on various review sites, I was somewhat relieved to find the owner found issue with the problems I brought to her attention (even going as far as to ask me to call the office so they could make this right). Yet, on another location, someone claiming to be the owner had the audacity to act as though I was in the wrong. (If I was wrong, why did I get a refund for the cost of the course?) Very unprofessional of you to say one thing in one location and attempt to make me look like an idiot in another location. I STRONGLY suggest the owner tell whoever commented on the post to take it down, or I will continue to update this thread sporadically to further remind potential riders to stay FAR AWAY from 2 Wheel Safety Training. I completed my course few weeks back. They are amazing. Before going I went through the previous reviews and was worried a little bit, but it went very well. Our trainer was a very nice person he explained everything very well. Some people also dropped their bikes will learning but trainer was very nice and polite. Took the first virtual class, arrived early for the ride class, was turned away because I didn't wear long socks and my high ankle leather shoes weren't correct. Then I messaged to reschedule but was told there would be a second discounted fee for another class even though it was just a roll forward and not an additional class. Was annoyed because the required socks weren't listed on the gear requirements list. Was told no skin is allowed to be visible. Apparently it was my responsibility to stop the class (that already went over 30mins) and ask if my wardrobe was all good. I didn't get to take the ride class and asked if I could just find another class. Was told that my tuition covered that class specifically and that I would need to pay a discounted fee to take another class. I'm assuming somewhere in the $100-200 range. So that's: $425+$200(potentially)+$boots+$long socks+3.5 hours I'll never get back...which, by the way, 1.5 hours was spent on gear but socks were never mentioned. But I'm assuming I was the only one who was turned away so maybe the other guys in my class are just smarter than me and knew to wear long socks. Had a pretty bad experience with this business, just like many other reviews here, wish I had spent some time looking at the reviews before signing up. Instructors in this training don't seem to understand that you are learning and that you might make mistakes sometimes. Training was going very well, I had finished the first day, and second day classroom as well as the written exam. at the end of the first exercise in the second day, I did a mistake and instead of pulling over in staging area (Despite they have waved that signal correctly), I pulled over next to instructor. Instructor kicked me out of the class and wouldn't listen to me explain myself at all. but rather kept claiming that I was trying to run him over and that I might cause safety issues for others. despite me keeping a good distance from him. Waste of hard earned $350.. Joi Davis will provide a million and one reasons why this business is satisfied with stealing your money and making you pay more just to sign up again (I can't wait to read the reasoning behind this one). After arriving 30 minutes early to the riding session today, I was turned away after being told that I was arguing with the instructors that I can't wear the leather gloves provided. He was the only one raising his voice and even stormed off after accusing me of arguing with him simply because I was relaying to him exactly what was stated per the agreed tuition and email that Joi sent me after communicating with her about the gear. The instructors and staff apart of this business are extremely unprofessional and I am so bummed to have wasted all that money. Please do not waste your time nor money on this company. DO NOT TAKE THE COURSE DURING WINTER if you're a beginner. They still do the range course during raining and the temperature is under 49 degrees. The MTC Student Handbook clearly says to avoid inclement weather condition for your safety. You may still need to ride in bad weather but I don't believe anyone would ride for 5 hours when it's raining and freezing. Also, these guys need to post their ADDITIONAL FEES on their website so people are aware that they can end up paying nearly the same or unreasonable amount of fee AGAIN if you get kicked out or not pass the test. Both instructor said I was doing well during the training but by the time I had to take riding test(after 5 hours of being outside in rain and freezing temperature), my body was locked up and shaking with bad vision due to the rain. I still didn't think I all of sudden did anything too differently than during the training but I did not pass the test for whatever reason. It is questionable if this course is designed to make sure that beginners learn and pass the test at their facility over the DMV one. The owner's comment focuses on how they rather piss people off and fail them for their safety but I've seen people getting kicked out for a min or seconds late from the break. How does this offer safety to the trainees? Passing the test from these guy's facility doesn't guaranty anyone's safety in the future. Not passing their test on the second day of riding doesn't mean the trainees will stay as beginner and make mistakes in the future. (NO ONE CAN GAURANTY ANYONE'S SAFETY ON THE ROAD) All these guidelines to kick out and fail the trainees seems to be designed to keep their financial gain steady. I really don't see much of caring or confidence from this business that they want to make sure each trainee learn and pass the test to avoid DMV test as intended to. This is by far, the WORST experience I have ever had in my life. They basically just STOLE the $350 from me. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE choose another business for motorcycle training. I was registered for a three day course, where class session was done in Zoom. I did not receive any email with the Zoom link, and called the office phone number, which directly went to the voice mail. And when the class started, I try to search the Zoom link in my email, and finally found it in the spam. It took me some time to set up the Zoom (I have not used the Zoom before). And by the time I finally able to connect to the Zoom meeting and waiting for permission to join, the instructor simply kicked me out, and I cannot join again because Zoom said 'You were previously removed'. I had to use my phone to setup the Zoom again, and try to connect the second time. This time, the instructor let me in, but he sent me a chat in Zoom said that I was too late, he had to kick me out, and asked me to call the office the next day to reschedule. I thought fine, I will just reschedule. The next day, I called the office, it still went to the voice mail directly. I called several time and had to leave a message and wait for the call back. When I finally get into the call with a lady, she told me that I was late and I had to pay additional $200 to reschedule, and she did not care about any issue I had with Zoom. Now, the worst part is, I want to continue my current course (two sessions on the weekend), but she said that I could not take the following course since I was late for the first one. It is ridiculous, I paid $350, and I cannot attend any of the course just because I was late for the first Zoom class. I had the Motorcycle Permit from DMV, and is legal to drive, so why the hell I cannot attend the range course in the following session, which I paid for. In addition, she mentioned in the phone that there were other students on the list that had the same issue as me. Clearly, people are having issue with the Zoom class, and it is understanble during this Covid time. Instead of showing care for people, they just want to RIP the MONEY from you, and kick the student out of the class to get free money. $350 is not a small amount, especially in this covid situation. "California Highway Patrol (CHP)" has many programs designed to make better drivers/riders. "California Motorcyclist Safety (CMS) Program" is the one of them. This CMS program has a Motorcycle Training Class (MTC) designed for motorcycle riders. 2 Wheel Safety Training (TWST) is a motorcycle riding school, contracted and approved by the California Motorcyclist Safety Program (CMSP) to provide rider motorcycle instructions. Now that we got all the acronyms sorted out, there are other reviews that are very good in details and coverage. My background: Multiple years of riding experience overseas but none in US and also none in last few years. So needed to unlearn habits irrelevant in US and pick up relevant ones. Took the Mission Collge Class. My take: Pros: 1. The course is a good mix of classroom and range. 2. No course can cover everything you "can" know but whatever basic stuff you "should" know are covered. 3. Instructors are just fantastic. Patient, non-condescending, interested and genuinely want us to clear the test. Cons: 1. The classroom slides are bland and boring. Instructors do their very best to make it work (I don't think I can top their passion) We had to rely on imagination a lot. Concepts such as traction, swerving, skidding, correct parking and many more are better shown by videos. Videos would have made things a lot easier to understand. 2. The Mission College is a maze. With designated parking, range, classroom and restrooms spread wide, its a walk no matter what. Plan to include lot of time for walks. Be Aware (this is not the cons section) 1. The course will eat up your weekend and is energy intensive. Be prepared mentally, physically and emotionally. 2. Don't be cocky if you have previous riding experience. Picking up relevant skills is humbling experience. 3. There are no shortcuts. Be prepared to complete everything. 4. This is my personal belief - If you have zero experience of motorcycles, 2 days are insufficient to have a good hold. Will highly recommend you take the class, but post pone the test and take time to hone your skills. Overall: Full value for money. Great experience. Super fun class! However, it is long and arduous in that it takes up pretty much half of your weekend from Friday 6-10 (classroom instruction), Saturday 6:45-11:45 (practice range/parking lot), an hour lunch, 12:30-4:00 with a written exam, and on Sunday 6:45-11:45 am in the range with the skills test shortly after. Expect to also have either your hands or arms relatively worked with working the clutch as well. Also, slap on that sunblock! I highly recommend taking this course over taking the skills test at the DMV, that way, you have lots of time to practice and lots of pointers. Definitely worth the money! I practiced beforehand before taking this class in empty parking lots and I'm the streets, but I knew I was still going to need help and practice with slow maneuvers. The knowledge presented here is definitely catered to beginners such as always using your rear and front brakes. The bikes range from being beater cruisers, dual sports, and a sport bike - from 125cc-250cc. There was also two Sachs MadAss bikes that looked super fun to ride, but deceptively taller than first impressions. The instructors were Joe, Nick, and Alvin. Super cool and laid back guys who really knew their stuff. I loved their attitude of really trying to develop your riding skills, trying to knock any rising bad habits, but also being ultra constructive and positive. Hard to find instructors who don't bark at you and say that you're doing something wrong. I would probably not take my training with 2 Wheel Safety again if I had the choice. The instructors were very knowledgeable and I did go on to get my M1, but the experience was made very stressful and unpleasant for several reasons: 1) We got yelled at constantly whether or not we were following instructions on the track. 2) If you showed up more than 5 minutes late you get kicked out of the class no refund. This happened to a guy while he was taking the course on his second day, poor soul. 3) If you don't show up wearing the exact clothing they called for it's all over. Nobody told me that signing up for 2 Wheel Safety was going to me like going to military school for two days. I had the pleasure of being instructed by Adrienne (Day 1 classroom and Day 2 range), Pierre (Day 1 range) and Lillie (Day 2 class room) this past weekend. Due to COVID-19, the classroom portions were held via Zoom. This was not a detriment in any way, since we could take the class from the comfort of our own home. Cameras do have to be on so that the instructor could make sure we were engaged with the participation questions. Adrienne and Lillie were extremely knowledgeable instructors and were able to explain concepts in different ways to make sure that we understood the basics, and at no point did it feel like a death by Powerpoint. I especially appreciated the "spot the danger" exercise. Out on the range, Pierre and Adrienne were firm and concise with the instructions. I will say that I have had a little bit of exposure to motorcycle riding so that I could at least quickly get over the hump of getting into first gear, but the instruction pace could be a little bit fast for some so BE ATTENTIVE! The instructors are not here to bullshit around. You will be 'street' riding by Day 2. Stay humble, do everything they tell you to do no matter how repetitive it is (because we are beginners and we suck), and it will work out. Would recommend this Motorcycle School. read more

Great program. Come into this course very humbled and willing to take feedback. Our instructor named Randy was excellent and fun to learn from. He ensured we all had decent understanding of basic skills and safety guidelines. I had zero experience with motorcycles and only basic bicycling experience. It's easy to be nervous the whole time, just remember that if what you're doing is unsafe, they will tell you and you need to take the feedback earnestly. So long as you listen and follow what they teach (even if it's not perfect or even great), you'll pass. PS Be mentally and physically prepared as it's a rigorous 2 day course under likely hot conditions. Entry level course is not for the entry level person. I am doing course Jul 31th and Aug 1st, Patrick and Mike are patient and explained well. I can correct the driving issue easily in a single explanation. So I give one star here rather than nothing. I am feeling another instructor may have miscommunication or discrimination to me ( He/Instructor all point to same person) which is definitely the management thing. So I hide the name and left the comments under company page） Example: Case 1: WHEN, Instructor told me to put on Neutral (N). I am feeling stuck on the gear and hard to put it on Neutral. THEN, he just stared at me and kept emphasize "put it on N" and asked me "Are you speaking the English"? THEN, I failed to do that and explained, "I have no idea where is the N". THEN, he said "it's between gear 1 and 2". THEN, He told me "You are totally not listen what I am talking to you" I had no idea the 1 is the most bottom gear. Couple try. I did that. Case 2: WHEN, I accidentally stopped in the middle of the practice due to failing to change gear. THEN, He said something to me 30 feet away. THEN, I got there and asked for feedback. He mentioned, " I do not want to talk with you, you are totally not listen to me" What?? CASE 3: WHEN, we practiced the emergency break when riding 15 - 18 mile/h. THEN, First try. He told me. I am too slow, please get the feeling of 15 mile/ hour in the middle line and came back for the next round. THEN, I ride, ,changed the gear to 2, throttle to 15 to 17 mile/hour. Breaking and downshifting the gear when I passed the cone. The breaking distance is around 15-18 feet I guess. (Due to slowly squeeze break, the distance is longer than normal. THEN, he told me "You are all done today. Look at your breaking distance. You are totally not listen to what I told you. Same as yesterday. I had give you the chance yesterday but you are not listen. Since this is safety issue, you are all done today. Do not argue. We will send letter to you. "Wow. He also mentioned I have speed up to 35 mile/hour but I do not think so. ( I have confirmed the speed it on speedometer and even I do not think Nobody can make it to 35/h on such small distance. If the instructor was feeling I was too close to the obstacles ahead. Please move it far away due to the emergency break training.) Conclusion, I understand this company follows the DMV rules by emphasizing the stress training and has higher bar on motor cycle. But please please be professional. 1. Intro to the equipment on real machine is the basic and foremost for any sports and training. 2. Please clarify the training rules before each item. 3. Remove the safety risk if it was identified in advance. 4. Demo with the bike is important. Do not just tell me shift to neutral. Let me tell you to calibrate the screw micrometer, I do not think you can do this simple unfamiliar stuff. ( I respect this possible result and will take it. We sent my daughter to this class so she could ride her new Vespa. She was excited about getting a Vespa. Now, because of this company, she will not ride her scooter or any motorcycle because she has such a terrible experience at the class. The instructor, Pat, was very negative, talking endlessly about seeing riders end up "in body bags". He even said "Every rider I know has ended up in a catastrophic accident". Well I know several (and am one) that has not. Talk about freaking out the students! One girl dropped her motorcycle and Pat commented "well there's $350 wasted". She was failed at that moment. My daughter was struggling and she kept asking the two instructors (for 12 students) if she was shifting correctly and they said "yea you're doing fine" but at the end they failed her. When she asked what points she got taken off, they wouldn't tell her. She said most of the people appeared to fail since they walked away dejected at the end. When an instructor completely turns you off of the activity it is a BAD instructor. I am angry we chose that company. She sat out in the blistering heat for two days, spent $350 and didn't even learn anything. Now she has sworn off bikes of any type for good. This class is for people who practice at home. Not a good investment for complete beginners. If you don't have a bike at home don't bother.

Not as beginner friendly as they advertise... I registered for the MTC course with no experience riding a motorcycle so I figured this would be the perfect class for me. I read and took thorough notes of the MTC student handbook as well as the DMV motorcycle handbook well before the Zoom classes so I was prepared for the in-person training. When I got down to the range, I was dismissed after an hour of riding. To be fair, I did make a couple mistakes (unintentionally!) but isn't that a part of learning? Although this is the entry level course, I wouldn't recommend taking this if you're a slow learner like me. They expect you to pick up the skills right away and are impatient with you if you mess up. I will probably try again in the future but the way that they dismissed me really discouraged and embarrassed me. read more

Wow, if they can teach me to ride a motorcycle, they can teach anyone. I'm a huge nerd without much natural coordination. Joe, Dave, and Pierre were great. All three did an excellent job creating a calm and inclusive environment. They all welcomed questions and had a zen and humorous attitude. I really appreciated how on the first day of the range, Dave and Pierre had us act out the exercises on stationary bikes (they called this "static practice") before we got out on the track. They would also read the instructions and then verbally rehearse / repeat what they wanted us to do for the exercises by asking questions like "So, what are you going to do when you reach the cone?". I loved this extra repetition and felt like it really set us up for success. The whole day, I was calm and amazed that I was keeping up with the big boys. On the second day of the range, we had Pierre and a different instructor out on the range. He seemed like a fine (and funny!) person, but had more of a drill instructor vibe. The new instructor did not do the extra verbal repetition that we had on the first day. He read the instructions out of the booklet, quickly asked if there were questions, and if nobody spoke up immediately, he would have us out on the range. The new instructor would call out our mistakes during and after the exercise, but this definitely didn't seem as helpful as setting us up for success before the exercise. On the second day, I got increasingly nervous and frazzled as I kept making mistakes and getting called out on the range. It was a pretty stressful experience, and very different from the first day on the range. Pierre saved me by giving me some extra coaching during one of the breaks. Thank you so much for that Pierre, I don't think I would have passed otherwise. All told, this was an incredibly efficient class with great curriculum and passionate instructors. It's clear that they all love what they're doing. Please have all instructors set up students for success! read more

Whatever you do, do NOT take it with "two wheel safety training". We made our reservation with them in advance, and then later they called us and asked us to reschedule our riding class to another date because they had a conference scheduled that day. We agreed to reschedule, but the only times they had available was a 6am class! our original time was 12pm class. we are coming from santa cruz, so it was going to suck getting up that early to get to class, but we had no choice. So we went through with the class, passed the written portion then came the riding portion and we were 10 minutes late. The professor was just finished taking role, didn't even start the class yet but he wouldn't let us into the class. he said that we were too late! so we tried to explain to them that it was not our choice to take an early morning class, and we tried so hard to make it on time. We had to get up at the crack of dawn to make it down to san jose! but they would not refund our money back nor give us a make-up class! so we basically paid them for nothing. they would not compensate us at all. it sucked. so if you take a class, I recommend taking a class with a company that has a better policy on being late or if you have to miss the class because circumstances DO come up! but the "2 wheel safety" policy was no refund on being late, and no refund for special circumstances. So basically, after you pay them $235 they expect you to be at the class or you don't get your money back or any chance to make up the class. period. I give them 2 stars because the class did seem very good and very organized, but their customer service sucked and their refund policy really needs to be revised. *****update December 2007***** An example of another company is Bikesmart Motorcycle training. I just signed up with these people, and their refund policy if you are late is you can go on standby for free up to a year or you can pay 1/2 price to re-register yourself. read more

There are better CMSP approved courses out there. Stay far away from 2 Wheel Safety Training. Class of 10, only 2 people passed. They cheat you of your money. On written test, they can't cheat you but on driving test, they will falsely point in so that you will fail and pay a $75 retest fee just for driving portion. They lied and gave me points for doing something I did not do. 20 points is passing but they will add on some bullshit to make you go over. For the BS reply below: There was a student that drove for 10 years over seas on a bike and did your tests flawlessly however, entered from the wrong side. You let othere redo but not him because he does not speak english well and instead failed him. Is this not purposely failing him or is this discriminating? I would give negative stars if possible, but it's not. Don not go to this place the staff and instructors are highly unprofessionals. I am not a new rider and have all the experience I need to ride wherever and whenever needed. I showed up for this course on the first day and all the information they were teaching is not good, especially for other new rider. Also their bikes are terrible, the bikes would literally stall out when in neutral which is crazy because newer riders should have quality and safe bikes. I finished the first and second day like a breeze, however many other riders had some difficulty. The third day I was unable to join due to zoom link issues and I tried to call to try and get help and was sent to voicemail. Like why would they not answer the phone during the days students are supposed to be doing the course? I tried to call and reschedule however now they want more money for me to get into the course again. I called and Joi was extremely rude and unprofessional and so was her boss when we called to complain. Don't ever go here, it's a waste of money and your time!!! read more

JP was an he's a good example of what a teacher should be, He teaches not to have fear but have confidence while riding. He was very calm and he actually took the time to correct my mistake. THIS WAS THE BEST DECISION IV'E MADE. Two days ago, I had NO IDEA how to ride a motorcycle! If you feel anxious about what it takes to learn like how I was, follow through with your decision and GO FOR IT. My dad has been a huge influence of me taking the class. He didn't encourage me riding, but deep down, because of him, I've always loved motorcycles and only have considered to get my M1 literally a week ago. Thanks to 2 WHEEL SAFETY I'm closer to getting my M1! Disclaimer(sort of): If you have trouble following directions, abiding by rules and a problem with authority, this might not be for you. With that said, this class wasn't what I expected. After reading reviews of this school and other schools, I was anxious of how harsh the instructors would be and how that would be an uncomfortable experience while learning to ride a motorcycle (which is already enough to be nervous about!) That and you have a bunch of new people you will meet that come from different walks of life who are trying to learn also. Everyone in your class might be at different experience levels but you are all aiming for one goal, to complete the class! This is about you, there is no competition and should not be, so it should be an awesome bonding experience and chance to meet new people! THE INSTRUCTORS ARE STRICT.... ...but they aren't jerks. I broke a rule in this class and even almost dropped the bike. The rule I broke was during the time we were waiting to do a course with our engines off, I was trying to take a selfie of myself on the bike and it required I take a glove off because I couldn't use my phone with the gloves on. Ty immediately walked over to me and told me if I took off any protective gear on the range I need to leave class. That was already a warning that I knew would happen and I realized that they could kick me out right then and there but they didn't. I also almost dropped the bike I was sure I'd get kicked out! They recorded that I almost dropped the bike which I think is part of procedure because it involves you writing a statement about it along with your information. I almost dropped the bike because I was not paying attention to CLUTCH CONTROL during an operation and nearly had the bike ride off without me! Luckily I hit the kill switch to shut the bike off which you will learn in class. With that said, they let me CONTINUE the class and I made sure I did not let something like that happen again. "You are all expecting to get your motorcycle endorsements on your licenses. I'm not concerned about that. I'm just concerned that you are safe." -Ty Piz 2 Wheel Safety Instructor. One of our instructors Ty was a GREAT instructor! We all went over the material first half of the day and he was really down to earth with a professional motorcycle racer background. He shared with us his thoughts on safety on the road and how to protect ourselves as motorcyclists. He gave me TONS OF FEEDBACK while on the range as well and every bit of that advice helped me ride better and more confidently. Thor Simmons was also equally helpful and encouraging. He also pulled me over after running some exercises to give me more feedback of how to operate my bike safetly "Keep your head and eyes up and square your handlebars while you brake!" If you are serious about taking a beginner level class for any reason, you need to consider these guys. They have great schedule and altogether really liked the way they held the class especially on the range. From day one getting on the bike was the most nerve-wracking thing I had to do, but because they walk you through the proceedures of operating the motorcycle, you no time you will be riding a motorcycle as well! I have to also say that you should read the material that comes with the email after paying for a class. It helps to read their booklet right before class to be INFORMED of what it takes to be a motorcyclist ON THE STREETS. Also you should be researching basic operation of motorcycles prior to class as well so that your mind is already imagining what it would be like being on the bike already. Once you do that, the class fills in any other questions you have by step by step method. Also think of all the questions you have as a to be motorcyclist and write them down to ask the instructors. They are really enthusiastic about sharing their 2 cents as experienced riders. Lastly, BE SAFE, DON'T DO ANYTHING STUPID (like almost dropping the bike like me) and ENJOY THE CLASS!!! read more

Well, guys, I just finished the Motorcyclist Training Course (MTC) here at Mission college (San Jose) and I figure I would share my experience with any new riders who are wondering about the course and what does it entail! This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn how to ride a motorcycle, and also DMV will waive the road test after successfully completing this course. Also it helps to get lower insurance prices with few insurance providers. My course was 2.5 day. Friday evening i had a class and Saturday noon, Range. Sunday early morning, class and test and after a big break range and riding test. First class i had Joe as an instructor and he taught us the basics of riding and safety. And at Range had Joe and Thor as riding instructors and taught us all from the scratch and was very patient and helpful. At the end we were riding pretty much by ourselves. Here comes Sunday, early morning class and we met our instructor Derik, he taught us from cornering techniques to how to deal with hazards and complete safety. Super knowledgeable and answered all our questions and at the end handed us the test papers and was "super quick" with checking the answers. Which gave us plenty of time before range to freshen up. Later at range our Riding instructors were Joe and Derik. I don't know the other instructors but I couldn't have asked for better ones. These both guys are super chill and awesome and will guide you on every turn every stop. Even i had a little experience I was still making few mistakes and they corrected me on "every" single turn. These guys were super funny. Thanks to you guys, now i can ride with more confidence and will be safe. And Joe, i will try to keep my hand off that front brake ;) read more

The classes were surprisingly fun and didn't feel like a drag. Derik is quite a personality and a great guy. The other rider coach was awesome as well [forgot his name =X ] Logistics are kind of weird, the first day of the class is in Hayward and then the other two are in Newark. I'd personally prefer all the days be in Newark but I guess they have their reasons. It was nice showing up for the riding days early in the morning so that I still had the rest of the day to use but they also have the option to do the latter half of the day. I had a great class of people and I knew quite a few people too. All of the guys had a firm handling on riding, mainly the ladies had trouble [Tip: difference was the confidence while riding, so have high confidence! Believe in yourself.] The 250cc bikes were like toys after riding my bike, but I found that aspect to be fun actually. I'd personally suggest this riders course to everyone. I will caveat that I have never been on a motorcycle before and fully admit that I am not a natural. If you're like me, this is not the class for you. The range is of course the whole point of taking the class. There were 12 of us with two instructors. The range experience was unpleasant. The instructor pointed out that I was nervous (which I was) but instead of making me feel less anxious, he instead went out of his way to make more anxious (right off the bat making it seem like I will fail). The range instruction stops for no one, and does not adjust based on how fast students are learning. If you want want to spend more time on a section, well tough luck. There is absolutely no opportunity to learn at your own pace. The instructors just encourage you to quit if you cannot keep up. The classroom portion was good, the right balance of factual, personal tidbits, and good pace of material. This was at the Mission College location. read more

Really enjoyed the Range saddle time. Was informative, challenging and fun. But it might be little too overwhelming for complete beginners. I had some prior experience outside of USA, which helped. I recently completed the two-day MTC course at the Coyote Valley Center. The online sessions was delivered by Chris via Zoom. He kept them funny and made sure everyone is engaged. He also ensured to stress on the critical points of riding. For the range sessions, our first day instructors were Skip and Shayon and second day instructors were Skip and Dave. All the instructors seemed passionate about motorcycles and ensuring everyone learns the right technique. I had last ridden a motorcycle 11 years ago and was feeling a bit nervous for the range sessions. But all the instructors were good and provided feedback to the point. Just following their instructions to the T helped me to get back my confidence. On the second day, I was feeling very comfortable. I believe all of the students in our class had prior riding experience and everyone seemed to learn pretty quickly. I believe everyone cleared the riding portion of the test. The written test was taken at the end of day 2 and I didn't wait for everyone to finish, as I wanted to rush home. So hoping everyone cleared and got their DL 389. Overall it was a pleasant experience. read more
