We checked in and were welcomed by a very friendly staff. We are here for a wedding in the area and this Inn was recommended! This place is a historic throwback located along the Delaware River just outside the Doylestown/New Hope Area. They do have a restaurant and a pub in this location. The 1740 Club offers a full menu with specialties. The bar is a full bar and has a good wine selection. We were lucky we hit it on a Prime Rib Night! The 1740 Club is actually a membership club but guest of the 1740 House are allowed to eat here. We did enjoy a dinner at the Club I did have the 16 oz cut of Prime Rib and the better half had the Blackened Swordfish both meals were prepared perfectly. Breakfast options are offered and a Continental is offered with your Our room was an end unit and it was large and the King bed was very comfortable. Our niece recommended staying at the 1740 House, and we are glad she did. - - - The Building - - - While most of the property was built in the 1960s, and significantly upgraded since 2000, the main sitting room, where they serve the coffee, and the one bedroom, were actually built in 1740!!! The property is right next to the Delaware River, the longest free-flowing / un-dammed river on the East Coast; both the NJ and PA side have canals; the 1740 house is immediately on the canal, which is immediately next to the River... the views from the main building and from the rooms are wonderful! - - - The Team / The Staff - - - Pam and the rest of the staff, including housekeeping, are very gracious, welcoming and helpful. - - - The Food - order pencil-on-paper and ENJOY! - - - Breakfast was included; you order on paper sheets the night before. Breakfast is GOOD! We enjoyed: - broccoli fritatta with bacon - Belgian waffle with big pieces of sugar mixed in, for a nice, light crunch, with apple topping with bacon - phenomenal - they have coffee and cream, tea, and also yogurt, bread/muffins, etc. - And they have bacon! - Did I mention how phenomenal the Belgian waffles are? They are phenomenal!!! - - - The Rooms - - - The rooms are similar and unique. The beds are so nice; not too soft like other placed; high / tall beds that are firm... nice. Strong radiator heat is readily offset by cracking the window to maintain just the right temperature. Irons and ironing boards in each room, to make sure you look your best. Beautiful venue and fabulous breakfast. Friendly staff. I am torn between 3 and 4 stars though, because my room had an overwhelming odor of dog. I love pets but the smell was distracting and I wish hotels would not allow them. I really struggled here, because otherwise it is a great place to stay with a beautiful view of the Delaware. I didn't get a chance to say anything to the staff, because I had to leave shortly after I took my breakfast and they were busy serving everyone else. I was only here from 9 PM until about 9 AM, so my stay was quite a short one, but had it been longer, I would have asked to change rooms. The party next door to me was loud at first, but by 11:30 PM they had quieted down. I believe there was a wedding taking place that weekend, so that could explain the noise level. Other than that, it was pretty quiet. While I would not necessarily *not* recommend this place, I would call first to see if there is a pet-free room available. I am not certain whether it is permitted in all rooms or if some are pet-free due to various allergies. read more

Rooms were noisy, breakfast was GOD AWFUL! my waffle was as hard a a hockey puck and my best breakfast had cheese that wasn't melted. The coffee was gross. The ONLY reason to stay here is the location and the river view. Other than that u can find better. It's historic but ud think the people who run it would give a tour or educate. I cannot express enough how happy we were that we made this choice..the room was so quaint and cozy it was like our romantic getaway for the weekend..the people were so lovely,the whole staff really bent over backwards to please their guests.. we are actually talking about coming back in a few months that's how much we enjoyed it!! we also brought our little dog Brody and he had a great time as well..we took walks and enjoyed the scenery so so much.. the views of the Delaware River when we lifted the blinds in the morning and looked out was totally incredible,could not ask for better place to stay for a weekend 10 minutes from the town of New Hope, you definitely can't get better than this!!! My wife and I stayed at 1740 House for two nights to attend a wedding nearby. Quite a few family members also stayed at the inn. The inn itself is really very nice, great vibe. The rooms were very clean and nice, old, yet modern (AC, etc). The inn sits right alongside the river, which was awesome. The people at the inn were attentive and helpful and very nice. That alone would make it a great location, but there was one more thing that really put them over the top. I have a dairy allergy and the inn provides a bit of a breakfast every morning. Breakfast is particularly hard with a dairy allergy as there is milk in just about everything, even most bread. Bobby, one of the staff members went out of her way to understand what we needed, going so far as to bring out a product so I could see the label and verify that it was ok, and then customizing the breakfast just for me. On the second day they went even further and made their own home made dairy free cream cheese (yes, they made it themselves!). It was quite good and I had a bagel with their dairy free cream cheese and that was a real treat. I highly recommend this inn if you are in the area. A five star establishment in every way. Sadly, this was not the getaway bucolic experience we had hoped for. My wife was met by a sullen desk clerk who could barely acknowledge her existence. There was no towel service with a disclaimer that began, "In these unprecedented times.." I think this was a reference to COVID. THIS IS 2024 not 2020. We stayed two nights and they did not make up the bed. The decor, no longer chic was just plain shabby---mid '80s faux country. The bathroom was at most utilitarian. We have an electric car, but they said they had no outlets-- we spotted one. Although we had stayed two times in the past, we won't be coming back. read more

Having grown up in the new hope area we knew we wanted to something local to honor where we came from and where we met. 1740 House was the perfect option. We would give them 10 stars if possible!!! It is hard to put into words just how grateful we are to the team at 1740 for all they did for us during our event. The night was incredible fun, relaxing, delicious, beautiful, and bountiful! My daughter and I stayed night of June 30. The bed was very comfortable, room was clean. Negatives were: you can't see TV from bed at all, outlets to plug in devices were behind the bed, you can't read the numbers on the room air conditioner without a flashlight - in daytime. loved the door that opens to walkway where you can see the river. beautiful views. breakfast was good, pretty eating area. I took my wife here for Mother's Day and had a blast! We loved the gorgeous view from the balcony but really the whole town is pretty. We had a great time at dinner and afterwards in the club. The food was delicious. Michelle the chef made perfect scallops and a very nice cut of steak. Chris, the bartender, makes an excellent martini, and Scott, the manager, is hilarious. There is hiking, biking, and if she is calm enough, kayaking on the Delaware. We'll be back!! read more

Highly recommend! Judy and Susan and the gentlemen at the office made our pandemic getaway dreams come true! Contactless check-in and out, an incredible breakfast each morning, amazing river views, and they even upgraded us for our anniversary and provided champagne and chocolate. We felt so accommodated and pampered. It was the perfect getaway from the city and such a wonderful place to be with nature. I loved this place!! It is so beautiful and peaceful and close to everything such as New Hope , Peddler's Village. The room was so comfortable and private, the outdoor balcony with view to the water, breathtaking. I recommend waking up early to see the most amazing sunrise. Great Bar! Mike in the bar is a really unique guy. Marine reserves and he cooks, bakes and bar tends. The desserts are scratch made (Mike made the chocolate decadence torte). They will attempt any drink you request. A family owned operation. Last visit we only visited the bar. This weekend we stayed in suite #8 and our friends had the HUGE suite #6. Ours was the perfect size with a 4 poster Q bed. Theirs was huge w/K bed. A huge sitting area w/leather couch and loveseat as well as colonial table and 8 chairs. We enjoyed a great game of CAH at the table. The only downside was that you could smell the fireplace smoke in suite #6(right over room w/fireplace). Great views of Delaware River. The dinner menu shrinks to a small pub menu with about 15-20 items in winter. Super cheap(sirloin steak $18). The food was good, not great. Bill for 4 with cocktails was $95. This was our first experience at the 1740 B andB. We lived in the area for 15 years and never had the need to stay. We are now center city residents but get back to bucks county fairly often. The room was excellent and fairy priced. The outdoor seating area was a welcome plus. Your breakfast offering, considering covid restrictions was also very good. However, you need to do a better job of policing patrons who are knuckleheads. While I was picking up our breakfast tray a guest from new york (accent clearly identifiable)pushed right by me wearing no mask ,to pour his coffee, obviously with no thought of social distancing. We spent a couple of nights here while we visited for a wedding in late October. It was a gorgeous fall weekend: crisp at times, with the leaves changing color and falling. The 1740 House has an amazing location right along the Delaware River, and the bedroom doors open onto a walkway/patio area that overlooks the river. You're not really within walking distance of much, although there is a pedestrian bridge a short way north. However, you're a short drive from park areas and restaurants. We took a drive to check out the area where Washington crossed the Delaware. The rooms are quaint. Nothing fancy, but plenty of room. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the alarm clock was tucked away, unplugged, below the television, and I never even noticed if there was a phone in the room. The hotel have a fireplace and lounge area that must be amazing during the winter. The biggest issue: the walls are thin. There seemed to be a wedding every night, and you could hear every conversation going on in the hallways... and they went on for a while. The creaky staircase is part of the charm during the day, but less so when drunk people are walking up and down the stairs repeatedly at 2 a.m. If you are a light sleeper, you might have issues here. read more

The customer service was exceptional! We flew in from CA for a wedding and stayed at the quaint 1740 House. Our room was perfectly clean with our own private patio to enjoy the view of the river. As we fly in for a wedding, we had no rental car and the shuttle to get to the wedding was canceled. We tried to call Uber, Lyft, and a taxi but there was none in the area so the owner of 1740 pulled together his staff to take us and 3 other wedding guest to get to the wedding on time! They were all so genuine, nice and fun! Could not give them a better rating! read more

Stayed here for a wedding at their sister location so most of their rooms were full. They provide a small cooler in the lobby after the office closes so there is never any direct access to the ice machine. The walls are paper thin so you can hear all your neighbors and the hot water is very inconsistent during showers sometimes getting freezing cold or burn your skin hot. What am I paying $200 on a weekday night for again? 2 out of the 4 people I encountered at the front desk was genuinely caring. read more

My husband and I were celebrating our 40th anniversary this past weekend and had a lovely stay at 1740 House. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. It was one of those places that I felt like I could walk barefoot if you know what I mean. This meant more to me than staying in some fancy place. I have asthma and odors really bother me. I did not have any problems whatsoever. We were on the second floor and did not hear any noise from other guests. Our balcony was perfect to relax outside with a glass (or two) of wine and watch the joggers go by, along with the calm waters of the Delaware River and the occasional boat. I was completely able to forget about work and unwind. Very serene. Breakfast was delicious and more of a variety than we could have imagined! I wish we were staying another day because I would have liked to try some of the other dishes. The entire staff was super friendly and went out of their way to make sure everything was to our liking. Great location, great views, ample breakfast, and nice staff. The rooms are a little run down, and that includes beds and baths. We had run of the place for a family event so I saw 5 different rooms. In each case, it was similar - gorgeous views of the river, but saggy beds, and strangely laid out rooms with weird lighting. Our toilet clogged. Our shower water pressure was weak. Would I come again? Absolutely. Why? First and foremost, the VIEW. The included breakfast was pretty good. And the staff was really helpful. 3.75 stars read more

We highly recommend this beautiful Inn on the Delaware. Its tasteful country decor with spectacular views are like no other Inn we have experienced. We were in room 22. From the moment we checked in Susan and Judy were so welcoming. The breakfast was delicious and Tracy happily offered us information about the other rooms at the Inn for future visits. This place surpassed any and all my expectations. I have never written a review before, but here I am to write this one: The staff and atmosphere was charming and friendly but went over and beyond. Let me give you a great example: On Sunday morning, we had to get back to the New Hope lines to catch the TransBridge bus back to New York (great bus line). We scheduled a cab the prior night for the next morning with All Three's Cab Company (terrible). When it was clear our cab was running behind, we called the company. Surprise! They lost our reservation despite confirming it the night before. I frantically went inside and told Maria as I checked out, asking if there were any other local companies, now worried I would miss the bus. She dropped everything and took us HERSELF to the bus stop. Amazing. So beyond the gorgeous river views, clean and quaint rooms with private balconies, historic location, delicious included breakfast, awesome wooden bar room and overall beautiful charm, I have to give this place 5 stars! Not the fanciest place in the New Hope area, but probably the best bang for the buck. Location right on the Delaware river is amazing. The husband and wife that run the place are very friendly. All of the rooms have views. Our room had a private balcony. There is a pub with outdoor dining - perfect for an evening drink. The included breakfast is superb, with everything cooked there. Choice included three varieties of bread puddings. The strawberry was amazing, and I had to have seconds. Its set back from the road, so it is fairly quiet. There is a foot-bridge just a five minute walk where you can cross to the NJ side and enjoy a state park with walking trails and other facilities. The only complaint is a slightly noisy air conditioner. read more

Spent two nights here over New Years and really had a nice time. The location is beautiful and our room had a riverfront view and a fireplace which was perfect. It is laid back with a nice little bar and nice sitting room with a big fireplace. It's not the Ritz but it just a comfortable place to spend a couple nights. The breakfast wasn't gourmet but was fine. This is a place you go for the view and the location. Great to take a walk up to the foot bridge and cross over into NJ and explore that side of the river. A couple suggestions for the owners, first keep the bar open a little later; or have it open on the honor system. It closed way too early. Second, more staff would equal more sales, particularly of food and liquor. There were only a couple people taking care of a full house and that wasn't enough. read more
