1579 is a shining star in Coamo. I have been visiting this town since I was a little boy because my extended family are Coameños and never in 30+ years have I seen such a creative and hip restaurant here! The food is amazing and the ambience in the restored vintage building is very well done. They do a fusion of Puerto Rican flavors with regional Italian classics. Standout dishes for us were the well seasoned churrasco on a bed of mamposteao (a Puerto Rican rice and bean stew) risotto, and a chutney of squash, and the gandules based hummus, which had a great flavor of gandules with garlic and Puerto Rican seasonings finished with pickled onions and feta cheese. The cocktail menu was also just as creative and included many items sourcing local flavors and ingredients. If you're in Coamo for any reason this is a great spot to try. They have live music as well, and the service was friendly and inviting. We lived it so much we went back for a second night in a row for dinner! They also carr a great local craft beer based also in Coamo called Zurc, which has a lovely parcha (passionfruit) flavored lager. read more
