I'm originally from Guayama so I'm really excited to give this review. I never thought I would have a James Beard Award Finalist in my hometown. But here we are. So I'm giving 5 stars to this restaurant but this is in a curve. This a PuertoRican 5. You will not find a better restaurant in the island. It may be just as good. But not better. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Home to some of the best restaurants in the world (fight me). Done a little traveling. I would have to say this is a 4 star restaurant in a major international city. Which is still good. But let me explain. First the ambience. They did a wonderful job with the decoration and general look of the place. If you have gone to New Orleans you will recognize many architectural details because Spanish and French architecture are amazingly close in the late 1800's. It was real. Not a Disney-like facade but honest to goodness home vibes. (Which is funny because this used to be an ophthalmologist office in the 70s and 80s. I know because this is where I got my first pair of glasses) Then there is the service. My server was Ariana. Best server I have had bar none. Period. End of sentence. She knew everything about the menu. Made recommendations on point. Helped me avoid getting something I would later regret. Was attentive without hovering. Knew when to leave me alone and then came to my aid when needed. Could not have done better. Hope you can keep her. The there is the food which was great Alas, I have a couple of notes. I had the Anona Fizz. Soursop (Guanabana) cocktail. Good. Needed a little more soursop. Succotash de maíz - I usually do not enjoy creamy things. This was excellent without being heavy. A little bit more bite on the tortilla chips would have been great Mero (grouper) fresco tempura. - amazing technique. The fish was fresh and hot. The tempura was crunchy and delicious. I can't remember having a better fish. And I can cook fish. But the side (arroz con consomé) was too salty. I'm aware of how consommé should taste. It was too much. 3/4 of what was used to flavor the rice would have been more than enough. Finally dessert. Cheesecake tempura on a guava sauce with passion fruit ice cream. Yep. As good as that sounds. Again, flawless execution. The cheesecake was nice and creamy and the tempura was crunchy and tasty. And the ice cream was beyond compare. Overall a fantastic experience. The price was reasonable considering the experience. But this is not McDonald's so be ready. My best to the chef and the staff. Oh and the hostess was on time and on point. And being on time in Puerto Rico is not common. ( I can say it. I'm from here.) read more

There's nothing bad to say about this wonderful restaurant. Took my mom and aunt who are a bit peculiar with food, and they we surprised at how good the food was. They even tried Bone Marrow & ribeye tartar and loved it!!! In all, a special place with great food and wonderful and attentive staff!!! read more

Chef Angel David More o was recognized as a 2025 James Beard Foundation finalist for Beat Chef: South for his work at El Gallo Pinto. I have to agree this accomplishment is well deserved. The food is incredible. The crispy pork cuajo, pumpkin hummus, and the bone marrow were perfect appetizers. For the main course I went with the pork ribs. Succulent and meaty. I got it with a side of the arroz consomé. You have to get this; TBH, you have to get everything. In addition to the food, they are also known for their cocktails. I recommend the Black Guayama. They recently launched a beer in collaboration with a local brewery to celebrate their 4 year anniversary. I was hoping to try it, but unfortunately, they were sold out. Food is only part of the reason for their success. The other part is for the service. It was friendly and attentive. Overall, well worth making the trip from San Juan. I can't wait to return. I don't remember if reservations are required or highly recommended. Either way, you can make them on their website. Street parking only. read more

I came here with my family and in-laws to celebrate my birthday. Incredible food and fantastic service. Everything was delicious, it's hard to pick what I liked the most. I guess if I had to pick one appetizer, I'd say the pumpkin hummus was my favorite. My main course was the snapper. Very good. The rice with consume was also amazing. We went to Gallo Pinto based on several recommendations from friends , we made a reservation two weeks in advance, we arrived 30 minutes early and the hostess was not the friendliest in the way she told us that we had to wait , remember guys is not what you say is how you say it. So we waited and they sat us down at the reserved time , however they gave us the worst table of the restaurant. My wife and I are both over6 feet tall but not overweight, and they gave us a table right beside the wine cooler so my wife had the wine cooler right on her right shoulder and I had the servers station right behind me, I stoped counting after a while the times I got hit by one of the servers passing by . I thought of getting up and leave but we decided to stay, our server on the positive side was outstanding, as far as the appetizers We had the Onion soup, very creative as it is creamy and it has fried crunchy onions on top of it but the flavor or the cream was totally bland, we also had the cheese croquettes and they were OK, now the entrees were very good I had the Surf and Turf and my wife had the BBQ Salmon , they were both outstanding. For dessert we had the tempura cheesecake, also outstanding, the place is an old house that was preserved and very we'll decorated,the place is very loud at least that was my impression , also there is no parking but on the nearby streets you can park and walk to the restaurant, in general the outstanding server we had and the very good food mostly made up for the initial experience and the awful table we were given, maybe will visit again as there are other plates I would like to try read more

Visited this place last year for the first time and was really looking forward to this visit. They started opening on Mondays not so long ago and you'd think it'd be less crowded. The place was packed but the service was never compromised. The wait time for drinks and food were just right. The staff is very professional and warm while you enjoy their offering of creative cuisine. There is always something new to try. This time the only repeated item from the menu for me was the "croquetas de queso" which are goat cheese croquettes. Those are a must! Also tried their octopus appetizer. Very tasty and the octopus texture was amazing! Not everybody knows how to cook a perfect octopus and I have to say they do. Their chicken breast very tender and juicy; also tried their fish and was tasty and not dry. Suggestion: always ask for their off menu items for the week. They will always surprise you with something amazing. This time they had rissoto. So worth it! Definitely coming back on my next visit to PR for either food or cocktails. read more

Picturesque place in the heart of Guayama. Definitely worth the drive from San Juan. Friendly and attentive staff. The space is light and open. Innovative and creative cuisine. The fried pig ears sounds risky but the taste was incredible. Delicious gratin oysters with cream and bacon. Crunchy smoked wedge salad. Very interesting tuna carpaccio with herbs and citrus flavors. Their signature chicken box is a MUST! Juicy and tender chicken with two different sauces to dip in. Also the cocktails were amazing, with different options of natural juices. Un lugar extraordinario por su riqueza en el centro del pueblo de Guayama, ubicado en una esquina de una casa que te remonta al pasado y contemporáneo. El Chef Angle David oriundo del área logró un sueño para él y su esposa. Los mejores escargots que me haya comido por la combinación diferente en la mezcla de sabores. Una cajita tiras de pollo con papas fritas naturales. The best bite in PR so far. Loved this place. Friendly staff and the food was innovative and tasted like a 5 Star restaurant. So amazing. I will make the drive from San Juan for this place. Love it. The fried pig ears are a daring choice that pays off. I know they were meant to share, but I was greedy and ate as many of them as I could. The "MOUSSE" DE POLLO (Tostada / Reducción de parcha / Puré de aji) was absolutely amazing. Terrible customer service, I walked in with my wife, there were five empty tables at 7pm on 5-28-23. We were told they were closed and try Prime Market, I told them we eat at Prime Market twice a week and wanted to try your restaurant, she said, "OK" and walked away laughing with a waitress. Went to Prime Market, we were met by their terrific staff and the owners that greet you by name and had the best Filet Mignon and Porter House Steaks inside their air conditioned seating area. Be Nice and show respect for customers to avoid this type of review. read more

We've had 2 what I would call perfect meals in the past - everything exactly right from start to finish. 1 was in France and the other in Croatia. Tonight's dinner was the third such meal we've experienced. We stopped here by accident, I had written down a casual place and this one, meaning to go to the casual place since we were on our way home from the mineral springs. Glad we made the error. We started with an amazing oyster appetizer followed by a snapper entree for me and the pork ribs for hubby. We shared a rice side which was very uniquely flavored and complimented both dish's perfectly. Hubby had a beer but I drank the cherry mojito with passion fruit froth. It was so good that I had to have 2, Each dish was uniquely and perfectly seasoned with flavors that we couldn't quite identify but were totally complimentary. We were helped by a member of the staff that seemed to actually be the manager because our Spanish is sadly lacking. He did a fabulous job of describing the various dishes so that we could make our choices. Overall, the evening was a marvelous experience and will be remembered long after our visit to P.R is over! read more

Excellent across the board! A renovated historic home in downtown Guayama done with taste and still preserves the original home feel. I recommend the seafood and creative cocktails. Look for the town regular Blanca seated at the bar overlooking the street. Buy her a mojito for me ; ) read more

Fuimos un grupo de 7 personas y la experiencia fue divina...los cocteles nos encantaron, la picadera espectacular y los platos principales (langosta, salmon, new york...) súper sabrosos. La decoración y ambiente del restaurante es muy linda (no hay aire acondicionado y aunq tiene abanicos y los ventanales estaban abiertos, el día q fuimos hacía mucho calor afuera y por ende adentro). Termino diciendo que el servicio nos sorprendió: los meseros super amables, muy serviciales y muy educados. Nos trataron espectacular. Recomendado 200%. read more

We have tried to eat at this place twice. Both times, we were turned away. On Father's Day, we arrived at exactly 1:00 pm (at the time they open which is unusual) because my Dad wanted to eat there. Unfortunately, the restaurant had a bunch of reservations and couldn't accommodate us until 3:30 pm. Every single table was reserve. What is that?? If the restaurant is not reservations only, tables should be available for those that don't have one. Reservations are also supposed to have a limit on time. A good restaurant always have tables for those that don't have reservations...period. We live in Luquillo and going to Guayama for this bad experience is never going to happen again. Not worth it. read more
