After my 2nd or third cut they are gone and i have to start from scratch. My last stylist (Adrian) was great but is no longer there. I stopped in just before the holidays to get a cut approx 1100 am on a saturday and was informed they were booked and could not accomodate me that day. They asked if i would like to make an appointment for the next day (Sunday). I said that would be ok and they booked me for 1000am. I arrived at 950 and waited 30 minutes for someone to arrive but no one did. After investigating further i discovered they do not open until 1100. They had my number and i never did receive a call . Very disappointed and contemplating whether to return or not.

I had a second appointment with Samantha for deep tissue massage and I'm even better. Some things I like about Samantha: She is calm and kind. During massage she NEVER talks my ear off. If I say nothing at all, then she says nothing at all. If I ask her a question, she answers well with her knowledge and talking stops again. If you don't chat, she won't chat. I like that. Samantha is very good at her job! I let her know all my problems and Samantha went to work on my issues and I felt so good and relaxed during and after. I've had other massages but Samantha is theeeee BEST!! I just booked my third appointment with her today. I texted her and she got right back to me and the appointment was easily and quickly made. There are no negatives about the entire experience! I was amazed as her knowledge of all the sore spots she found. It's like she went straight to them. Now, I requested a deep tissue massage so Samantha might be little but she is mighty! At one point I grimaced a bit and she automatically lightens pressure and remembers and works a super sore spot in different ways that will be more comfortable for client.

The back of my hair right at the base of the neck was an inch and a half long the entire back of the head was layered so short, I could not get it into a ponytail. The right side is longer than the left side. The layers are all very different. I had panic attacks every time I touched it or looked in a mirror and washed it as it made me so sick to my stomach that someone could do such a terrible job cutting hair and calling oneself a professional. No professional would do a this bad. I called and complained spoke to an employee who said the owner was not in and she would pass the message along. The owner when I finally did get in touch with him did not care one bit of how bad of a job my hair turned out. And the worst part about it I explained to her prior to her, even starting my hair that my biggest fear was getting my haircut and considering how bad of a job she did it looked nothing like the picture, and it was so uneven and looked so bad. Several months have gone by and I still can't get all of my hair into one ponytail. My request was that my hair be passed my shoulders so we could go into a ponytail. I didn't get close to that and I still can't get it into a ponytail. I do not recommend this place at all the owner and his wife are not very reliable or responsible. She was so not worth the big tip my sister-in-law gave.

I'm writing this review without ever having had any hair services performed at Black the Salon…read more This is simply a review of their character, particularly from the manager Mary. Last night my friend and I went to dinner at Iron Horse before going to the Royal Oak theater. Having purchased online tickets in the past, I did not pay attention to the email that said in bold letters "must print tickets to attend". With 15 minutes before showtime, we were in downtown Royal Oak without a printer and had no idea what to do. Black the Salon shares a corridor with Iron Horse, so just on a whim I went next door and explained my predicament to a staff member who promptly referred me to Mary. Without hesitation and with several customers in the salon, Mary took time out of her evening to print my tickets and save the day. She is a rockstar and her staff was equally as welcoming. I'm not sure how well they cut, color, or style hair, but I will definitely be booking my next appointment for salon services with Black because if their talents behind the chair are half as good as their talents in front of it... I know I'll look and feel amazing when I walk out.

I've given Black three shots now because my husband liked it. My first haircut was pretty good, no complaints. The next visit...I decided to get some color done and made an appointment with a different stylist just based on available times. I got a call an hour before my appointment letting me know the stylist was running behind about 10 minutes. No problem. I thought that was very courteous. So I arrived a few minutes late as told, only the stylist wasn't even at work yet. I waited another half an hour for her to show up. I was worried about the appointment going over, but received no apologies when she arrived. The icing on the cake was that the color didn't even take. The stylist didn't charge me for the appointment, which was the one grace of the day. But I wasted 3 hours and still had to make another appointment. And right now, I am sitting at the salon AGAIN waiting for a third stylist, who is also now over half an hour late to work. Now, there's bad luck and there's bad service, but I'm pretty sure I'm getting equal doses at this salon. Customer service just doesn't seem high priority. I'll think about revisiting my star rating after she redoes my color today, but I already feel stupid for even sitting here.
