They see the child as a whole person and not just a cough or a rash. I have often had to wait (ex a 2pm appointment can often turn into a 3pm appointment or once for me, even turned into a 4pm appointment when a child with an urgent issue came in). If you hate to wait (or have a tight schedule), it might be frustrating. When my child is sick or has an issue - I don't want to feel like I have to go home and look things up on the internet to confirm the pediatrician gave me all the options and was up on the most current guidelines, research etc. I trust Westchester Pediatrics to tell me what I need to know and that's it. My mom was always so happy to see the doctor as he was always the consummate professional and was always so kind and understanding of all his patients needs. His staff should learn from his behavior how to treat people with respect. My 90 year old blind and almost deaf mother was moving from her residence after 60 years and the staff of this office lost and or misplaced all of my mom's records and never told me as they did not even realize it until i called them on the day she was moving, Even though they agreed to complete the documentation and send them to her senior community ASAP they didn't do it!! The doctor's office faxed my mom's confidential records to the wrong number. They further compounded the initial error with incorrectly faxing the incomplete documents three times before they had the information that was required and even then they were missing ALL the necessary data. The carelessness and inaccuracies that occurred was abysmal. Columbia Doctors Medical Group affiliated with New York- Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center needs to evaluate how they are automating their offices and how they are training their staff to interact with their patients. What I experienced was totally unnecessary and inexcusable. Dr. Chait did tell him me he was sorry for everything BUT the lack of good judgement and the lack of follow through by his staff is hard to forget. Unfortunately, even though I asked to see the doctor when I was in the office they refused to get him and left him in the dark as to why I was there and what the problem was. Some members of the staff were obviously trying to avoid telling dr. Chait that they made such horrendous mistakes. This author will be filing a complaint to the appropriate authorities so I don't want to enumerate all the other errors that were actually made that could have seriously impacted my mother's life. The attitude of the office manager was arrogant and unacceptable. The office staff was inefficient and neglectful of their important and confidential responsibilities. They didn't care about my mother and could have diffused the whole situation with a little kindness and a little more attention to the imprtant aspect of their job of protecting and maintaining my mom's records and sending them on time to the requested location as per instructions they received weeks before. Medicine is changing and sadly, the solo practioner is retiring or selling to a larger group and no longer has the same oversight of their office as they once had. This is truly a shame. My warning to all of you is to be careful and watch and follow up on every single medical issue that pertains to you or your family as we all have to be advocates for own healthcare and those of our loved ones today.
