The 12 Apostles is the iconic image for Great Ocean Road - when you mention Great Ocean Road, everyone knows about the 12 Apostles so it was one of those MUST DOs when you drive the Great Ocean Road. The drive itself is super nice - you get that turquoise water and the ocean at every turn. Some of the roads are windy and some are just flat straight aways - nothing like the Road to Hanna in Maui where you get those tiny tiny curvy roads on the cliffside. Great Ocean Road is paved pretty well, you get lots of space and everything is clearly marked telling you when to expect passing lanes or as the Australians call it "overtaking lanes" =). You reach each lookout point and there is ample parking spots, though it may still be packed on busy days, for each viewpoint. The 12 Apostles has a parking lot and a welcome center with snacks/coffee and toilets! I found that all the lookout points are maintained very well, with paved/wooden walkways leading to the railed area for the sights! The 12 Apostles was glorious, with the iconic rock formations - lots of it is degrading due to the crashing ocean, but the rock formation/layers are neat to look at, as is the blue waters and fresh air. My friend wanted to compare photos because she was here years prior and its fun to see the changes in the natural scenery over time! A must stop viewpoint while on the Great Ocean Road! read more
