The month of June is proving to be one of the busiest for new openings in the Jewellery Quarter. Only a few days old, 1000 Trades is making its mark as a top choice for craft beer.
The bar is set in an old, Grade II listed building that once was the home of a jewellery workshop. Even as businesses have come and gone over the years, the premises retains its vintage charm. Exposed brick walls and wood floors give you the feeling of going back in time, aided by the DYI feel of the bar that looks like it simply popped up in the building one day.
There are two floors worth of seating, and a large tele on the first floor that has been showing football matches the past couple of days. The bar space is much smaller than what you would find as some of the old school pubs around the corner, but they have maximised space with a concentrated selection of craft beer (and one really good cider!) that is simply outstanding. Most of the brews are sourced from the Midlands and include such locals as Purity and Joules. An additional selection in the cold case expands their portfolio. There is also a small selection of spirits and both bottled and boxes wines. The boxed wines are available on the cheap, with a starting price of £2.50.
Plans are underway to add food, with a guest chef in residence making gourmet hot dogs starting June 19. In their first week of business, 1000 Trades is starting off strong with a bar that feels like a true local watering hole. I look forward to seeing how they evolve over the coming months. read more
