The good points - no issues checking in. Site is well shaded and no issues with water, electricity…read moreor sewage. Friendly campers. The bad points: 1. Facilities are not what is represented on the web site. Bubble soccer field is not enclosed. Water paddle bikes are only available on weekend and water enclosure for that is also much smaller than represented on the site. Water slide enclosure the same thing. 2. There was only one blow up castle (a climbing gym) even though the web site showed many other types. 3. The pool was closed on the Monday of a long weekend and was never opened by posted times. Posted times were pretty late as well - 10 am even on weekends. They ran out of chemical testing materials and delayed the opening another 1.5 hours one day. 4. Very few staff. They don't make any effort to make the rounds to check on things. 5. Only one garbage bin and no recycling available. 6. The playground is a tiny zip line and another slack line with rings and trapeze bar and that's it. Since the campground has come under new management the site seems to have deteriorated. Thankfully the section we were in had a family with kids the same age as ours to keep each other busy.

I was concerned over what I had read on other sites about 1000 Islands Camping Resort. After two…read moredays here that concern is gone. There were some issues that were out of the control of management brought on by an irresponsible parent but they planned other activities for the kids. I have taken my kids to quite a few campgrounds this summer and they are the best judges. Asking them if they want to come here again it was a unanimous yes. I'm sure next season the issues will be fixed and we will look forward to coming back.

https://www.localsyr.com/news/local-news/point-peninsula-community-fears-proposed-limestone-mine/amp…read more POINT PENINSULA, N.Y. (WWTI) -- A proposed limestone mine has left a Lake Ontario community angry and fearful. J.E. Sheehan Contracting Corp., a company out of Potsdam, has submitted a permit for a 15.2-acre limestone mine in the Village of Point Peninsula. This project proposal was submitted to the Department of Environmental Conservation. Sheehan owns a campground and restaurant in Point Peninsula. However, residents who live in the village just learned of the project in mid-December. "They will be blasting and mining, they will be pulling stone out," Year-Round Resident Laney Hastings-Taylor explained. Hastings-Taylor has lived in the village for decades and has worked to educate neighbors about the proposed mine, which would be located off Jefferson County Route 57. Many people have rallied with Hastings-Taylor to voice why the mine does not belong in Point Peninsula. "There's one road in, one road out. We didn't buy to have this kind of traffic out here. People walk the roads, they bike. A little girl across the street roller skates," Year-Round Resident Jeannie Koster shared. "You can't have that with that kind of traffic." Aside from work within the mine, the contractor has shared that the mine would increase daily traffic to a minimum of 50 large trucks. "To me, this is a resort area, not, you know, not an industrial type area for mining," Gene Taylor, Laney's husband added. Site work has already been completed on Sheehan's 92.5-acre property, which Taylor explained, has destroyed ecosystems. Point Peninsula and surrounding areas are home to migratory birds, such as snowy owls, bald eagles, ospreys and waterfowl. Taylor also owns three AirBnb's in the village as well as the only you-pick berry farm in Jefferson County. She is worried that this mine will ruin the fragile balance. "People's wells will be contaminated. The runoff from the blasting from the mining, the water is going to go right down that hill and right into the lake," she expressed. "People come and they have a magical vacation because of this lake, because it's just so beautiful. And all those things will be impacted." The DEC is hosting a public comment period on this project. Comments will be accepted through Friday, December 22. Point Peninsula is located in the town of Three Mile Bay, in Jefferson County.

I would love to give this place 5 stars, but unfortunately the treatment of a member of our party…read morewas over the top. The campground has lots of rules, which I understand given that it's meant to be for families with younger kids. One of the rules states that use of MJ is prohibited unless for medical use. When we checked in I made a point of stating that one member of our group was disabled and relied on prescribed medical cannabis. I was told that if they were to smoke it they had to go off the property as there was no smoking of cannabis allowed. But smoking regular cigarettes anywhere outside is okay. I went by later to confirm I'd heard right and also mentioned that a person can't be discriminated against because of medical conditions or disability, which this constitutes, and suddenly one of the owners (wife) was both a doctor and a pharmacist and said they could take edibles or oils but vapes or smoking weren't allowed anywhere because it would disturb other campers. But again, cigarettes are fine. The member of our party then went in later to talk to the owner, mentioning that this was both against Provincial Law and the HRC. The owner refused to relent and they came back to the trailer very distraught. They were treated like a villain and leper because of the medicine they were prescribed by their doctor. This unfortunately put a damper on our trip since one of the group was in constant pain and in order to be able to take their meds they had to walk off the property (we were right in the middle). Defeats the purpose when they have mobility issues. Serves me right for giving them a heads up I guess. I just didn't want them freaking out if they smelled MJ. Wish I hadn't said anything so they could cause a ruckus and call the cops or try and kick us out. Unfortunately we were there with 2 kids and, both of us being parents, put their happiness first and didn't want to cause them any distress. Next time we go there we won't back down on this.

The camp sites have sand boxes for your tents. We rented one of the cabins this time which made it really easy for use to relax and not have to worry about our toddler and infant. In our cabin we had a wash room, deck and bar-b-que. Our 3 year old made lots of friend here during our 3 day stay. This has been our second time here and we will be coming again soon. If have kids between 2-12 years of age this is a great place. 45 minute drive from Ottawa.
