My Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop had developed a few faults, including battery not charging, overheating, and the laptop cutting out quite frequently. On one particularly bad day, it was too troublesome so I finally decided to contact one of my local four PC repair shops using Yellow Pages and Thomson Local. Ironically they were not listed, and I obviously could not use online directories at that time! However, 1 Touch PC WAS listed - they appear to use a local name in local directories, e.g. Macclesfield Computers and Able Computers in mine. I Googled for reviews and they mostly looked good, so I chose them, reassured by their 'No Fix No Fee' guarantee, and they collected my laptop and returned it within a few days. They charged me £87 - £60 as quoted for the repair work, plus £27 for a new Dell battery. Unfortunately, the PC still had the faults (although its five indicator lights were displaying OK) and the new battery was losing its charge quickly. I was not too upset by that, and they collected it again. Sadly, they had it for two weeks or so, and admitted that it had them puzzled, so I asked for it back (presumably with its original parts replaced), and was assured that I would get refunded my £87. The various guys I had spoken to on the phone and on collection and return were all nice, well-mannered guys, but then it all started going wrong. Anyway, after verbal promises of my refund from three different guys, on my various phone calls, and at least four chasers via hard-to-find e-mail, and contacts via directory websites, I lost patience after a few weeks and asked my credit card company to help. Mine is an Amazon/Bank Of America card, and they were very helpful. They gave 1 touch PC 45 days to appeal against my dispute, and then the money was mine again. I suspect that 1 Touch PC CAN repair most PCs, judging by other reviews, but would make the following recommendations - only use them if you can go in person to their shop in Birmingham, check that your PC is working and complete before you take it home, and pay by credit card, or some payment method which can help with problems like mine. If I had paid them cash, I suspect that I would still be chasing my 'No Fix No Fee' refund. read more
