I got a quote from one hidden her junk for $5800 to remove all the junk and all the flooring within the house which would require two trips. They said the price was inclusive two days later when we called them for the second part of the trip to remove the remaining flooring and junk they quoted an additional $1200 be cautious. I was quoted $198 when booking over the phone, but upon arrival the workers indicated it would be $320 plus labour. I don't understand why the quote was so inaccurate for four standard sized items. Absolute worst customer experience you could imagine. Small couch. Small chair .... 350 dollars. I turned down the quote as I couldn't believe the amount they wanted to charge. Was hit with attitude from the driver and his assistant. Won't get into what was said but it was about as unprofessional as you could imagine. High pressure sales and no regard for customer service. Highly recommend you use someone else. So an edit. I had asked for a phone call which has not materialized. I am supposed to now call a number to further discuss. As you see a "customer service " person has responded with a prepared answer about the price gouging. This company sounds amazing when you want to book but if you have an issue they are non-existent. Hubby and I did some backyard landscaping, we cut down 3 small fruit trees. Long story short we were going to burn it but was taking to long. Called 1-800 got junk, service rep was friendly said they'd be out within the next couple hours. They came 15 mins later. Two young guys came in the yard and quoted us $450 to take leaves and branches to the dump. Almost pissed myself laughing. We said for that price we'd do it ourselves. They got snappy saying they were the leading junk removal in Calgary, blah blah. The cost covers their labour (branches and leaves remember), insurance and so on. We said no thanks and wished them a good day. Next day had a friend with a truck come over. We took it to the dump for $25. Complete rip off this company is. This company gouges seniors. Cost based on volume in the truck. Very subjective as to how much room taken up. They don't give the final cost until all things are on the truck and ready to go . 4 unwed 2x4's and a piece of metal suddenly became construction material an price went over $500. I think the company provides the truck and marketing and then provide the drivers with clients then it's up to the drivers to see how much they can gouge out of the customer. I have recently used 1-800 Got Junk twice, and have mixed reviews. What I liked: Ease in booking online. They called in advance to confirm the time. The driver calls again when they are close to let you know they're on their way. Fast and efficient, polite and friendly staff. What I didn't like: For my last booking, I was moving out an old couch. I just moved into a new home, so advised them I was quie sensitive about wall scuffs. I also advised when I booked them that I was having a couch moved, and that it was in my 2nd floor bonus room. Not to be sexist, but I was surprised that they sent a girl and a guy. Every time the girl set the couch down, she dinged my freshly painted walls. They did immediately offer a discount which slightly remedied the situation - I now have to take the time to fix a few scuffs on my brand new walls. I guess for the price I was paying, I would have expected them to manage a furniture move a bit differently. I will still use them again - I would just recommend to others that you carefully consider what you are having them move for you! read more

Used Got Junk to get rid of a bunch of stuff at work. We got a call the night before to confirm the window at which the guys would be showing up at. The next day they called 15 minutes ahead to tell us they were on their way and came promptly at 8:30am. Despite the fact that we had them going to multiple places in our building and having to carry out all types of crap, and go through a bunch of heavy boxes, in a small space, they were really nice about letting me know it was no big deal. Had it been me, I would have been grumbling and cursing the task at hand. Within an hour they had the job done and charged a very fair price. We will be using them again, because of their great service and convenience. read more

1-800 Got Junk, Calgary does not even deserve a one star! Worst experience ever, will never use again and will highly recommend to everyone not to use them either. We booked for pick up of a sectional couch from a second floor apartment and was quoted at less than $200, however once they showed up they said we didn't let them know it was that big (even though it's a normal sectional couch size) and then charged us $402.15! Which we had no other choice at that time as we had to be out of apartment that afternoon and it was too late to re-arrange. Very professional and competent service but HOLY COW what a RIP-OFF!!!! It cost $192.00 just for these guys to show up. We filled up less than 2/3 of the available space and it ended up costing us $550.00!!!!! For what was mostly a bunch of tree branches. Yikes!!! Don't use this service unless you want to be fleeced. When they try to send another team they will be 45 minutes late for your 2 hour booking window. Now I have to find someone else to move the stuff I needed moved today. Total waste of time. read more

Did you know that this company charges you by weight? Therefore when I want to get rid of a couch which I paid over $600 for, only a few years ago but it wasn't aging well and it was so big it didn't fit in my new house, so I called this company and I was quoted the price of $800 to have this coach removed... Because of course they charge you by weight and size it was a very very large couch... Do you know that the guy who started this company is one of the richest man in Canada now because of this scam. He just takes the couch away And charges you an arm and a leg and then he sells it at a massive profit. Therefore he's getting paid both ways, he's getting way too much money to take your products which are still usable and sellable, and then he makes 100% profit on the sale of the items. What a scam, don't do it, use your own brain and just use Kijiji and sell stuff at a tiny percentage of what you paid for it it will still be worth your while financially. Or even use Kijiji and Freecycle and just get rid of them for free, sometimes I put a bunch of stuff on my driveway and I list them and put photos on Kijiji and I say they are free and usually they are gone within 10 minutes. Save your money and be smart and don't use this company! Ps updated review- as you can see a company representative has responded to my review but their comments make no sense at all. First of all I never said that I went ahead with this order, I said I was quoted that price. Obviously I rejected their service cause I'm not an idiot and I wouldn't pay that much money to remove a perfectly acceptable couch (I just put it on Kajiji Free and it was gone within seconds.) Plus I meant it was charged by VOLUME, I said I was quoted a charge via WEIGHT, whatever, same difference, it was a huge charge because it was a huge couch. Called Got Junk to get an old ping pong table and other household stuff hauled away. Cameron, the person I talked to on the booking line, was fantastic and extremely personable. They were able to arrange to pick up my stuff the same afternoon. Drivers called early and gave me a 20 minute warning (awesome when you have reactive dogs) and were also extremely professional and pleasant. Took their shoes off, didnt bang any walls, rested the ping pong table on a blanket so as not to damage my hard wood floor. Overall, EXCELLENT and I will definitely use their service again. read more

Excellent customer service over the phone, although they do have on-line booking, and they call about 15-30 minutes before they plan to arrive for their 2 hour window. Very friendly and quick. I found the price to be a little high for the little that I had but I also understand it's a business. We weren't able to bring it to the dump ourselves so this was the easiest choice. With the $35 coupon it was an easier amount to deal with. We were desperate to remove a lot of junk quickly so that our home would be ready to sell. We had a very small window of time to get the job done, so I phoned around to find the best rate - and the fastest service. The "got junk" guys were at my place the following morning! They were courteous, and gave me a quote for how much space my stuff would take up in their truck before they started loading it up. I ended up tossing in a few extra items at the last minute, so the price went up slightly. When I asked if I should add a big pile of rocks from our back yard as well, they advised me that it would bump up the price significantly because of limitations on truck space for heavy items. The only disappointment was the "clean up" afterwards - it comprised of sweeping briefly in our storage room, and didn't take care of the mud that was tracked onto our carpet when the guys were removing heavy items from the basement. The job was done within 45 minutes, and we sold our home a few days later! I hope we never accumulate that much junk in our new home, but if we do, I'll definately go with the same company again. read more

Have used 1-800 a few times. The guys are always friendly and efficient, on time. My understanding (which was confirmed by a call to customer service) was that 1-800 picks up your junk and if sorted, will either dispose of, recycle or donate your items. For every pick up i have had my piles sorted and went over the piles with the 1-800 guys. For this pickup I happened to be outside with my son and witnessed the guys throwing all of the items (donations, junk, recycables) into the back of their large truck. I heard all the donation dishes smashing--the good toys and furniture tossed into the same pile as the garbage. My heart broke at the thought of all of those items going into the dump. I paid a price which i thought was decent (when i thought it was all being sorted at their plant/location) but when i saw my stuff being trashed, suddenly the price seemed a rip off--i could have brought it all to the dump myself for the dump fee and a couple truck loads. I called customer service, was told I would receive a call back and that this was NOT standard procedure. I have not heard back. I am very disapointed--where is all the stuff from my previous pickups?! in the dump?! what a joke. until i hear different, i WILL NOT be using or recommending this company. read more

We've used this service in the past for small loads of yard waste, old furniture, etc. However, this last time was due to us moving from our home of 17 years. You can imagine the amount of stuff one accumulates over that many years. 1-800-Got Junk was there exactly when they said they would be and were so efficient at removing the numerous items it truly made our move that much easier.
