Fortunately my hotel was not too far away. First off, it was closed on Sunday. I imagine some research beforehand might have alerted me to this, but the only other enterprises in the area also closed were the banks. Second and more disappointing was arriving at about 4 PM (hoping to beat the dinner crowd) only to be told as I tried to get in line that they were about to close and I was too late. Well I finally got their basic doner, the easiest to order given the language barrier. The meat was unquestionably moist and tasty and the roasted veggies added to the flavor sensation. However, I found the proportion of bread to meat extremely imbalanced. Bluntly, I thought the meat portion was a little stingy. The bread overwhelmed the flavorful meat. The remedy might be to toss half the bun or, as suggested by another reviewer, purchase a plate rather than a sandwich and make your own. Bottom line, a doner worth giving a try. But would I travel across town for it, probably not. There are many very good doner purveyors all around. And the margin of improvement that Karadeniz adds would not warrant such added effort.

The food tastes great and the table setting is very appealing. The restaurant itself is very cute. Reminds me a bit of Alice's tea cup in NYC but Turkish style. Tea is unlimited here and they have it on the table. It kinda made the table warm though. The grandmas at the front and working in the place are so cute and sweet spreading flowers and kisses to people coming in. They also offer you an assortment of jams when they see you're done eating. The waiter was extremely helpful as it was our first time and the whole crew are just on point. A must visit restaurant if you're visiting Istanbul and looking for a breakfast/brunch place.

It's a beautiful period dining room and simple, but very classy. Yes it's just a little bit of a tourist trap, but only because the food is so good and the restaurant is famous. The kebap is amazing, the menu is iconic, the restautant is casual chic and immaculate looking and the service is great; they give you a "Turkish çay" on the house after your meal. I also tried a bottle of their classic grape juice, which is very unique tasting. A tip: be careful when you eat and they pour the delicious (and oily) sizzling sauce on your kebab because the sauce can splatter and drip and get all over your clothes...I was so excited by the kebap that I dove in and had little spots all over my nice linen shirt afterwards! Napkins are your friend. Use one here.

The lamb was juicy and well seasoned, the pita is below it on the plate, it comes with delicious fresh yogurt so creamy and smooth, fresh slices of ripe tomatoes and very spicy peppers. They do not serve liquor, but the Turkish tea pairs beautifully with the dish. Service was friendly and fast. We were seated immediately on a busy Friday night in the tourist area. It isn't on the main drag, but rather tucked up a small side street. The decor is simple, but there are notes of thanks all over the walls. Would definitely return.
