The neighborhood of Besiktas is bustling with locals, and as far as Döner kebaps go, they seem to crowd around Ciftlik with its ever rotating spit of meat! Service here is quick and efficient--sitting outside, we started with a simple salad of lettuce, cabbage, and tomatoes, and I ordered the Iskender Kebap as a main. This dish contained carved slices of Döner cooked in a sweet tomato sauce, topped with sliced tomatoes and grilled peppers. The meat and sauce were served over chunks of (previously) stale bread and a huge dollop of yogurt on the side. On each table was also a bottle of sriracha sauce, and adding a few squirts really escalated the flavor profile! While tasty, the sauce turned out rather greasy, so this is definitely something you can't eat too much of. Nevertheless, Döner kebaps simply can't be missed when in Turkey! read more
