Had lunch at Point Breeze with my husband today. We sat at the bar because we didn't want to wait over a half hour to be seated elsewhere.
The restaurant was busy but the bar had many openings which would hopefully mean the service would be good... but it just WASN'T. We waited well over 15 minutes to even receive a menu then longer to get a drink (there were 4 other couples seated and I counted 5 employees around the other end of the bar).
Thy have a large menu with many different items. We ordered mussels for an appetizer and we split the Point Breeze Platter (clams, shrimp, scallops, fish and fries). We got a cup of chowder to split that came with the meal. The chowder came as 2 cups. It was delicious- thick like chowder should be. Next our meal came. No steamers. Disappointing but they took it off our bill.
The seafood platter was really good. We were surprised that the clams were whole belly. The shrimp were jumbo, large scallops and the fish came nugget sized. The plate wasn't overpowered by too many fries (what we usually get). It was all delicious and the perfect size for the 2 of us.
The downfall to this review is the service. Slow, lacking in care and all around disappointing. It is really why we won't be going back. Yes- the food was good but the service is what makes the experience worthwhile.
I was being generous with 3 stars. My husband was very irked about the service. Yes, the person who took our orders fell all over herself apologizing, but she shouldn't have had to do that. Our 2nd round of drinks was handled by another person who was very helpful and he made us feel acknowledged (not like an afterthought).
Side note: the atmosphere was very nice- a view of the lake, lots of nice decor; lots to look at. It was a bit buzzy noisewise, but was okay. read more
