Always have been curious about this spot and glad we finally tried it. We usually eat in town or back in Portsmouth when seeing a show at the Playhouse, but this time we gave Johnathons a go. First, this is a big restaurant, busy with several large rooms. They handle large crowds as we even saw buses in the parking lot.
The host was gracious, we were quickly seated at a nice window table and had a pleasant waiter. Entrees are on the pricier side, but comparable to other spots in town.
Everybody enjoyed their food. I particularly liked the very crispy fried calamari appetizer and the short ribs were tender and delicious and a very generous portion. The scallop appetizer was also very good, as was the pork chop entree.
We told our waiter we were seeing a show and he kept things moving along for us. We were not rushed, but did not need to worry about not having enough time. The only disappointment, and we realized after we left, was that the 10% discount for dinner, advertised on our ticket was not applied. I know our waiter knew as he told us to enjoy the show as we were leaving. As sponsors of the theater, it seems wrong that you have to remember to show your ticket to receive the discount, especially when our waiter knew.
Other than that, I would recommend the restaurant read more
