Affordable char siu and all roasted meat in NYC, 20% off all day and without a line!
Corner 28, a Hong Kong style roasted meat spot in the heart of Flushing, sparked my interest as its chinese name "旺角燒臘" refers to a distinct in HK ("Mongkok").
Their roast bbq pork (叉燒), roast pork belly (燒肉), and roast spare ribs (排骨) are only $12 per pound after discount. They also sell char siu rice for just $10. CASH ONLY!!

I got about 1.8 pounds of their char siu this time, and it was enough to feed a family for two meals. The meat was well-seasoned, not overly salty or sweet, so we didn't even add additional soy sauce.
Remember to ask for ginger scallion sauce (薑蓉) as it really elevates the flavor and tastes delicious with rice.
While I wouldn't say it blew my mind, it is a pretty good deal for what you pay for as it's cheaper than most Chinatown spots. It's worth a try if you are in the area. read more
