One thing about Hong Kong is that they like to follow food trends from Japan, and found this restaurant had the ability to provide fresh seafood with quality akin to that of Japan's famous seafood markets.
First thing's first, if you are making a trip to visit this place, you MUST get here early. We arrived 20 minutes before opening and were 9th in queue. There is a self-serve queue touchscreen machine for you to grab a ticket.
We got:
三色海膽盛丼 (Three-coloured sea urchin don Sea urchin) $238 HKD
If you have a good cholesterol level, this dish is perfect you. The uni comes from Canada, Korea, and Japan and were beautifully presented in the bowl. Tasted so creamy and smooth with the addition of the quail egg. Found it most delicious with the addition of soy sauce which helped draw out the uni's natural flavours and complemented the rice very well. The only flaw was that there were too much rice which was an overkill. I also think it is expensive for 1 bowl, but you pay for quality--a special treat for yourself.
三文魚火山盛丼 (Four Types Mixed Big Don) $128 HKD
This colourful ensemble tasted so delicious with salmon pieces, tako (octopus), minced otoro. If you mixed everything up, you will notice that the ikura tasted so fresh and al dente with each bite of rice. All the ingredients were fresh. Simply delicious and not stupid expensive.
They charge a 10% service fee on top of your meal even though service which was practically "zilch." Perhaps the staff were busy running other tables that they do not have time to cater to your needs.
Also not sure if this is still going on, but I had asked to use the washroom but was advised that it was "under maintenance" and should use the public one. I found that pretty unacceptable for restaurant that charged so much to not have a proper running washroom. I truly believe the staff could not be bothered with cleaning the washroom since they're busy getting people in and out as quickly as possible to maintain their business--cleaning is the last thing they want to worry about on their plate.
TL;DR Food was great, but service was lacking. Therefore 1 star deduction. read more
