The government closed the zoo to make room for residential growth and to build high rises. Now the highrises that butt up to this park look relatively new, so this would most likely explain how there was land for such a giant public park. He thinks this space was where the zoo once was. Regardles, the park is a great outdoor space for the residents and visitors to this area. It has everything....skatepark, roller skating rink, gateball courts, jogging tracks, soccer pitchs, elderly fitness center, play equipment, fitness stations, tennis courts and an amphitheatre. It also houses the Lingnan Garden, featuring courtyards, winding corridors, structures with traditional Lingnan designs, sculptures and bonsai trees. I read that 20% of the total area of the Lingnan Garden is dedicated to ponds and water features. A great outdoor space and understandably one of the most popular public parks in Hong Kong.

Located inside Lai Chi Kok Park, there are other facilities nearby that would be useful for anyone that visits the park; such as Toilets & changing rooms with showers; they even have lockers in the changing room ( just ask the office situated next to the changing rooms for a locker key) - having a refreshing shower after a session on a summer day is one of the best features of this park. Water fountains near the entrance of the skatepark & also near the changing rooms & vending machines right next to the skatepark keep you hydrated. Many restaurants & convenience stores/supermarkets in near by Mei Foo estate as well. The park has security there for access control, if you need help please don't hesitate to call on them. Many occasions when someone got hurt, they were the first to get you first aid. The latest skatepark rules can be found here http://www.lcsd.gov.hk/lsb/en/skatepark_players_guide.pdf

I remember coming here as excursion every single year when I was a primary school student. It seems…read morelike either my school really loved this place or they ran out of idea. Anyways, I did not know it was actually located at Sha Tin Racecourse not until a few more years... Now when I think about that... I did not realize when I was play hide-and-seek with my fellow classmates, there could be thousands of people betting and drinking just a few kms away... Penfold Park is a public park in Sha Tin and it is surrounded by the racecourse. It is well-known for being a pet-friend while nicely landscaped place filled with greeneries since it opened in 1979. To get here, take the MTR to Fo Tan station. However, beware that the park is closed on race days. So please check the Jockey Club website before coming here. The park is rather spacious, enabling kids to run around freely and a perfect place for you to walk your dogs. With the lush green areas, people often refer here as "Shatin's green lungs" (not really the best name to be honest). Here you may find tennis court, tables for picnic and barbeque grills. Over the year, it has also hosted quite a few equestrian competitions. At one side of the park, you may also take pictures with painted horse statues and artworks. Personally, I love the arched entrance as it is a rather traditional Chinese arch and you can go to the man-made lake through it. On second thought, I seldom go to this place anymore as I do not own a pet nor do I have children yet. But I do remember when I was a kid, I did love this place a lot chasing after my classmates and it was really fun. I am sure it is more fun than spending your weekends in a learning centre... Probably if I go back there, I might be those who are betting on horses now...

fate is the hunter…read more......... how else did i end up in hk, randomly walking in victoria park, chancing upon you? how else did i return to hk, a few days later checking into park lane hotel, becoming beneficiary to free tickets for two days at the hong kong tennis open event served with fun here?? as a venue it is really intimate. the first day that i graced the event here was a beautiful sunny day, luckily, i was seated at the south stand and the afternoon sun was pretty much behind me by that time. and being in the nosebleed section(free tickets) became a blessing in terms of the shade i was afforded in this tier. but as we all know the elements can wreak havoc here in hk. ask typhoon number 10 or just have a glimpse at all that has come through victoria park. the uprooted, the twisted torso, the broken branches and the horse statues that needed securing with tethering ropes. and the mood dampening rain that persisted pretty much the whole of the second day that i was here. a rolling rain delay(because the courts are not sheltered and fully soaked) that finally only concluded at 7.15pm do factor that in if you plan on attending an event here. with such a late start, you can easily imagine how the end time will eat into your beauty sleep regime. the venue also lacks f&b options within the complex, beverage was readily available but food was limited, there is also a fan area opposite where you can find some but that will entail leaving the complex and reentering with the accompanying cumbersome security search. merchandizing, alas i can see the paper advertizing but did not see a physical stall? the lavatories were barely sufficient and i can see it becoming overwhelmed come finals day! the chance of me seeing naomi osaka live in action also evaporated with her pulling out due to a back injury. still got to see garbine muguruza though, love! i would definitely recommend the south stand instead of the east, west and definitely not the north for those who prefer the shade. tin hau mtr is also the nearest station for the shortest walk here. let's hope fate will bring me back here, again....

During the season (September to April) I love to sit outside the casual Sportman's Bar watching the matches. You have to be with a member in order to visit and they will have to pay for any food/drinks consumes via their membership card - cash is not accepted. As it's a membership based club, the prices are subsidised so you can eat and drink very well for a very reasonable price. There are a number of dining options from casual cafe settings to the buffet spread at the poolside Coffee Shop. There is even a small shop in the lobby and you can order meat through the Coffee Shop. I visit the club once a week to play early morning tennis. The courts are on the roof top and are of a pretty good standard, although the middle courts don't have much side room. The extractor fans that face courts 1-3 make is tricky to hear so courts 4-6 are the best choice. There is a vending machine that serves soft drinks and a water cooler inside. As well as tennis, the club has squash, basketball and netball courts plus a gym, pool and a golf simulator. The bowling alley is a hoot whilst kids will enjoy the indoor playground complete with ball pit. Make sure you silence your phone before entering the club or you/the member you are with will get hefty $500 fine. Bar the phone rule, the club is extremely relaxed. A great place to spend time, especially for those with families.
