But this isn't the stuff you get in Park n Shop which seems to come from questionable farms in China. This is the finest organic meats, primarily from Oz and NZ. In terms of the raw meats selection, The Meatery have meat cuts, as well as sausages and burgers, hand-made in store. They are also a full service carvery, deli and bakery, so as well as the best in raw meats, you can get cooked meals like pies, stews and kebabs, breads, and wines, beers and ciders. A few other nice touches include their gift card options (I suppose for the man who already has everything), their "meatmaster" loyalty programme, and also their delivery options via Cuisine Courier. It is a bit pricey, but you are paying for absolute quality, in both the meats, the meals, and the advice dispensed by the extremely knowledgable staff. The location is a little out of the way up on Mosque Junction, but this is definitely the perfect place to come if you are planning BBQ.

The Meatery also sell ready to go meals ranging from hearty beef bourguignon to shepherds pie - comfort food is most definitely their forte! The meals are great for grabbing on the way home on the escalator and are probably the closest you'll come to a home cooked meal from the Mid Levels/Soho takeaway world but, again, the food doesn't come cheap! Expect to pay from $119 up for a portion for one - only marginally cheaper than dining in a restaurant. If you can afford it after your meat purchase, the Meatery also stocks wine, beer and a couple of lovely ciders. The staff are friendly and the shop front is an adorable and colourful addition to Mosque Street. If it weren't for the prices, I'd buy my meat here every time Frustratingly, the opening hours seem dependent on staff vacations so don't bet on being able to pick up your Sunday roast that day - I've happily shopped at The Meatery one Sunday only to find the place in darkness the following week. .

My companion's lamb burger was perfect. The wine selection is good and whoever put together the list selected some good options All that said, there was nobody to greet us at the door and empty tables had reserved placards. We looked lost and awkward and eventually asked to see a menu and for an explanation. That person then vanished. A possibly Persian man returned and asked if we wanted a table but then told us there was nowhere in the restaurant. There is no list -- or so we were told. Then the original person returned and without explanation we had a table. Why? Had he racially profiled us? Was he just rude? I have no idea, but he consistently gave the most cursory and minimal responses throughout the night. The Persian(?) took our menu order but when asked about the butcher just motioned across the restaurant and said "go ahead." He didn't provide a table number so -- yet again -- another waiter had to be asked. Service was slow and encounters with waitstaff were sporadic, at best. The guy next to us received a 10% discount without even asking because his service was so delayed. All staff speak perfect English. Prices are moderate for Hong Kong but reasonable for ROW (rest of world).

You can find just about any fruit you would want, including fruit from all around Asia and in-season specialty fruit. When shopping, make sure you walk up and down the street to compare prices and stock before buying anything. You can usually get vendors to match one another in price, or knock some money off the price (especially if you are buying multiple pieces from them). While I wouldn't exactly call it a tourist attraction, it's a nice view of normal Hong Kong life shopping at wet markets for daily food.

Since 1984, the bakery focuses on traditional treats. Loved the banana cake which is light and addictively delicious. The pan fried mochi with sesame seeds is so unique. The shop has a decent line that moves quickly. No surprise that it has been Michelin recommended and featured on Netflix. Next time, I'll try the wife cake.

Once you go in though, you will find that this shop nothing short of a surprise. Snacks, food items and even shampoo line the shelf -most of it you will not find elsewhere. As a Hong Kong specialty, it even sells dried seafood items. The fact that this place sells everything means that every trip here is a fact finding tour. Now being I go too far, you have to take note of one thing: this place sells things on the cheap. Really cheap. You will also have to bulk buy here, not that you will have to drive your minivan in; but it certainly comes in bigger portions than it would at your local supermarket. So what's bad about this place? You won't be able to find this shop in really convenient locations as their shops tend to be at out of the way locations. They are always packed, especially at the weekends when you get tourists, locals and helpers all crowding into the small shops. Other than that, I would be more than happy to get my groceries here all week. Only that they don't do that much food, shame.

Whereas in Hong Kong, ordinary supermarkets tend to shrink down the portion, probably knowing that local households don't really consume as much (?) so it is an exciting sight to see these large packets of candies, chocolates and snacks. What I like best about this store is that the items you find here are not the common brands you see in normal supermarkets; exotic brands of sweets written in an unknown European language, a collage of chocolates of different flavors or more familiar brands with the portion all scaled up: imagine a bucket full of Almond roca and a kilogram full of M&M. No only sweets, you can also find good quality oil, tubs and jars of condiments, a huge variety of canned food that are no longer seen in mainstream supermarkets. Other than things to eat, which is always my main focus; household supplies like detergents and washing power are also found here. In short, this is an alternative place where you shop for groceries in a very good price. You guessed it, the very best thing about this store is the price; it is much more economical to buy things here in large quantities in relatively lower cost. The individual item may not be like real cheap, but the per unit price of the goods sold here I can guarantee is a lot lower. Since it locates near where I use to work before, I always like to stop by to check out for snacks before going home. So if you work in Wanchai, do stop by and find yourself a good deal here.

It's my older sister's favorite tofu place so we had to stop by to grab a bowl of good old hot tofu, which is like a dessert. Be aware the dining area is small and cramped. You will likely have to sit next to a stranger in close proximity. It is street food style and casual dining. Folks order, eat and go! The tofu without a doubt was smooth, silky and fresh. I'm not a huge fan but my sister really enjoyed it. I was feeling something savory and got a mix plate of Cheung Fun (rice noodle rolls), fish balls, and fish shui mai. It was alright. They also have soy milk and some other food, but we mostly just came for the tofu since we had a few other stops on our food tour. There's 2 storefronts right next to eat other, although only one has a limited amount of seating. We thought the other one was for takeout, not sure if that was actually the case or not but they still let us order with them and take it over to the other storefront to sit and eat. We ordered a cold tofu pudding, mixed deep fried tofu, and soy milk. The pudding was soft and silky, and there's some sauce/seasoning at the tables for you to add. I don't think it was really my thing but it was interesting to try! I enjoyed the deep fried tofu a lot more since I prefer savory things. I didn't try the tofu ice cream since I didn't notice that was an option, but it sounds unique and I'd probably want to try it if I'm ever back here. Overall it was cool to try and worth a visit if you're a tofu fanatic. I'd probably come back again if I were in the area but wouldn't make a trip out just for this.
