Hong Kong is gifted in the sense that it has so many natural harbours- the one we always look at or…read moretalk about it the Victoria Harbour. the sights and scenes draw millions here a year and it could not be beaten anywhere else. Now if you were in HK and wanted to look at a more, natural harbor with a view for a quiet stroll or bike ride (you definitely cant do that in town)- Tolo Harbour will be one for you. Tolo harbor is a natural harbor that is enclosed on three sides- with Taipo to one end, Shatin at the other and Ma On Shan on the south shore of it. Over the years it has seen little destruction of its original shape (with the exception of the Science Park/ Providence bay development). A cycle lane runs right from Tai Wai to Taipo and its runs the entire length of the harbor with promenades lining all 3 sides of the shore. Strange enough is that you will note that no swims in it- for a long time it was simply too dirty to and the fact is that there are no beaches here. More recently, however, water quality has improved greatly and you can now see all forms of watersports taking place and people do fish from the piers jutting out here and there. On a good day you will truly appreciate why Hong Kong is such a gifted place- with the bays and hills surrounding it, it makes for a soothing bike ride or walk. Truth be told there isn't much in terms of historical value but it is a backyard for HKers in the weekend with thousands descending on the cycle lane traversing between the two ends. It does get quite busy at the weekends but it adds to the atmosphere. The Science Park adds itself as a stopping point in offering cafes and restaurants that provides you with a place to admire the harbor. I would recommend anyone wanting a workout to come here.

Sai Kung aside though, there is one particular location in the North West corner of Hong Kong, just outside Yuen Long, that may change your perception of what the "fragrant harbor" is all about. If you came here looking for completely unfettered nature- then you would be hugely disappointed. This part of the Yuen Long was previously a collection of neglected farmland, floodplains and just land that was not yet planned for anything. However, human activity was clearly possible and the river that runs through it had been polluted to the point that nothing without a hazmat suit on could survive in it. An overhaul was conducted by the government in widening the course of the river and cleaning out all the gunge in it and this had revitalized the location as a spot of natural attraction. Seasonal birds migrate here, there are some features of the ones abundant marshlands and more importantly at the end of the road that runs along the river, there is a large piece of flat green grassland that permits any kind of activities. You can fly kites, ride bikes or let your kids run loose like the plains of Africa. The problem with all this is that at the weekends this means complete gridlock and meanwhile you still have to fight the cyclists also coming through here. All the downsides though, are nothing if you could make it at sunset and you see the sun dipping below the horizon. Its a beautiful sight and one that is certainly not very Hong Kong.

We found Ashley online and was so glad we did. It was supposed to be s 5 hr tour and ended up being over 7. We all just got along so well. It was a very full day. She was very well educated and shared invaluable information about the history and current events in Hong Kong. Took us through local areas, new and old, took us to a local market where we picked out live seafood and then took it to the Hocker Center to cook it. I'm not a big fish eater so I tried everything, but didn't eat that much so she made sure on our way back to the hotel that I got a local favorite dessert to satisfy my hunger. Can't say enough about Ashley. She was very easy and comfortable to hang out with. Great experience! I would highly recommend!

I almost never book tour guides when I travel, but I was looking for things to do while in Hong…read moreKong and stumbled across Mandy and Apple in Trip Advisor and every client raved about them. I met Mandy just outside of the station on Nathan Road. Immediately I felt very comfortable with her as if I were meeting an old friend. She is extremely personable, friendly and genuine. She has an enthusiasm about Hong Kong that I hadn't gotten from others and was eager to take me to some of the places that other tourists don't see. I won't go into detail about all the places we visited or food we ate, but let me give you a few good tips. You'll want to try an egg tart at Tai Cheong Bakery. Also try the Dim Sum at Chung's Cuisine. She will help you order some really tasty treats. The best thing about Hong Kong Getaway with Mandy and Apple is that they will create a custom tour for you based on what you prefer such as a food tour, a cultural tour or even if you just want to see the main sites, they will know the best times to avoid the crowds as well as the best way to get around. Even after my day with Mandy, she knew I was going to be in Hong Kong for a few more days so she kept emailing me other ideas on where to go and what to check out. If you are visiting Hong Kong, I highly recommend you use Hong Kong Getaway as your personal tour guide.

She is uncanny in her ability, in a few questions, to know exactly what to recommend. And she's quick to pick up on when it's time to change the agenda. Second, her knowledge of Hong Kong, both history, culture, and layout, are extensive. But don't expect a history lecture. She'll tell you what you want to know, in a way that enhances the visit. Want detailed historical info? She can do it! Want a 2-minute overview encapsulating the background? Done, with all the important info included. Third, Mandy makes each tour like a visit with a good friend. Her warm, friendly personality is absolutely the best! For this tour, Mandy knew I like seeing and doing things locals do. She arranged a visit to the New Territories, a boat ride and visit to a fishing village, and many more stops. Chatting with her made the time fly! I recommend this tour!
