If you are looking for old systems, there will be a vendor here for it. Building your own, someone here will build one for you. Though things have changed since the last time I was here about 4 years ago. There were only about 75% of the vendors left here who are selling games, and gaming accessories. There was a whole downstairs underground level to the shopping center, however most of it was all computer components. There was also a huge thing about selling multicades here. For those who don't know, it's a unit with hundreds to thousands of games preload into a single unit. Many of them now are full sized control units which just needs to be plug and play. Beware if you are taking it back home to another country. Some of these units may violate some copyright laws. Also, the power supply may be different at home than what you have in HK, so buyer beware for both of those. Overall, still worth the visit. It still took us a good 2 hours to visit all the stalls, even with less vendors here. We still walked out of there with a bag full of games and vintage games (a couple of original game boy and a neo-geo game).

The setup is pretty simple; it is a maze of small shops that range from computer help to mobile repair to video games with an entrance / exit accessible only by escalators. The space is tight, with low ceilings and narrow hallways, which make this place somewhat claustrophobic especially when there are people crowding certain stores. My favorite time to come here is between 10-11am. Most of the shops are open and there is plenty of room to explore without the people rush. I've purchased mousepads, USB adapters, keyboards, camera memory, and basic electronics. Most of the things I've sought out can be purchased at any discount / flea market, but quality is a concern this is a good place to start. Every store has its own unique inventory, it never hurts to bargain and shop around. Always bring a smart phone with a picture of the desired item. It saves a lot of dialogue and keeps the shopping experience ideal. The prices aren't going to be as cheap as Kowloon, but it does the trick on short notice.

He also told me that if I was still having problems with it, I should bring my computer in and he would help me out. I was worried about creating documents that wouldn't be compatible with other computers and I was under a time crunch to get these Yelp reviews going, so I bought office online. I definitely regret this decision, especially after talking to a good friend of mine, also a tech whiz, who gave me the same advice. This could've saved me $150. Lesson learned! I have since been back to buy ink and was pleased to know that the guy working remembered me since my last visit. They sell various items for computers and cell phones and have invaluable knowledge. There used to be a shop on Shelly Street, and while it is virtually monopoly at Soho, it still shut down and replaced by a property agency shop. So yeah that tells you how hard the small businesses to survive here. It's not your average "phone cases", USB cables, battery chargers, etc low-end low-tech shops. It sells serious stuff just like what you'd get from Wan Chai Computer Centre. I was here a couple of times asking for some very specific items - And they always have them. The staff are not super geeky, but they know their stuff, or are at least helpful enough to check for you. I have yet bought any major items here (computers, monitors, etc) but they do have guarantee of 7 days return policy with the original package. I do feel like they are marginally pricier than Wan Chai, but it does justify my trip to Wan Chai just to buy something. So I'll stick with here as my go-to shop for day to day computer accessories.

It sells all of the standard computer wares that one might expect; hard drives, memory cards, printers, networking accessories, you get the idea, but also a number of other electronic items like shredders, card media accessories, and television accessories. What is refreshing, is to see a very well stocked computer store outside of the Wan Chai Computer Centre (but it does have sister branches in Wan Chai 298 and Mong Kok). What is also nice about this store is that they have quite a large chunk of real estate with all of their products displayed on shelves around the shop. As such, you don't feel like you're walking into a junk store. If you do have a chance to go, ask for Chris, he's very knowledgeable and will steer you in the right direction. It is useful if you do know something about computers, or what you want to buy, because they will try to up-sell you on some products. For example, I wanted to buy a hard drive for my Mac, and they presented me the Mac formatted one, which was HK$50 more expensive. It wasn't until I explain to them that I could reformat my own PC drive and save myself $50, that they conceded to give me what I wanted. The prices are very reasonable, comparable to the other computer centres around Hong Kong, despite being in Central. Don't forget to also ask for a discount. As with most stores in Hong Kong, the list price is not the real price. Ask for a discount you may get 5 to 10% off.
