Hong kong have been introducing this Kansai speciality as early as when i was still 5 or 6 years old. I remember asking my mom to buy be a set of those from food stalls in Park n Shop which came in sixes; although one should never be too hopeful about the food stalls in Park n Shop yet the disappointment that came along was so great that it had made me once lose faith in this street food staple of Japan. It was not until I had a couple from this joint have I restore hope in HK style takoyaki. Other than the usual ingredients, i particularly like the cabbage they add to the batter; the crunch and the fresh taste of the greens lightens up the starchy and doughiness of the balls. The sauce is also an important component in the whole takoyaki eating experience. The slight tang of the barbecue sauce cut through the dough making it less rich and could easily finish the whole box. For less than $20 you can have a box of happiness in you hands; it could definitely be a lunch at its entirety for those who have a humble appetite, whereas for those who could not be satisfied that easily, it would still be a decent portion for a snack in between meals. Instead of hitting up Shun Tak Centre or some nearby neighborhood for food, I stumbled upon this stand after wandering around SW for a bit. It is tiny. No place to sit, barely enough room for the women cooking the food. They are there night I'm and out, serving the late night taxi crowd on occasion and the vampire insomniacs who are just aching for a bite. This spot offers nothing unique that can't be found in other stands, but it was literally the nest thing after a night of drinking. Their sausages and egg waffles were hangover prevention in snack form. I also haven't developed much of a taste for intestines on a stick but they changed my mind. When all else fails, curry fishballs all the way. Remember to bring cash and keep the ladies happy with exact change.
