But this isn't a review about Benefit products - to be honest, I've not tried or used quite enough to give one anyway. I've been to the Benefit at Kowloon Tong quite a few times to get my eyebrows done at the Browbar. I have had my eyebrows done here a few times by Jennifer, who does a great job and is very nice too. $150 is a bit of a steep price to get your eyebrows done, but if you have never done anything with your eyebrows and are skeptical about the level of pain and how it will turn out, I would recommend coming here. Jennifer is great and you can tell that she's experienced at what she does. She'll ask you what kind of shape you're looking for, and is quite on point too. She does a combination of waxing and tweeting and I don't find it very painful, which is why I think it's great for anyone who's never gotten their brows done before. I've bought a couple of products here too besides just getting my eyebrows done. The sales ladies are very knowledgeable about their products and will tell you all that you need to know. Once, when I was done with my brows, I was asked if I use BB cream - I told them that I do, and one of the sales ladies helped me try it on. I didn't end up buying it, but I was impressed with both the knowledge of the sales lady and the product itself. They are generous with samples too, so if you're hesitant about a product, try your luck and ask if they have a sample that you can take home. I love that the store is very pink and bright, and it really brings out the girly girl in me!

Fast and able to accommodate a booking with about a day's notice, this hair hotspot flexes to my impulsiveness with my look. Like many other foreigners in Hong Kong, I've always come to Edmund here. His English is excellent and I usually bring in a couple of photos for cut and color inspiration, but yield to his advice on what's feasible in a single session without damaging my hair too much. His color is always vibrant, his cutting is precise, and his legendary six-simultaneous-round-brush blow dry technique is on-point. Customer service is exceptional for Hong Kong too - I once was unhappy with the match of my root to mid color and Edmund happily took the time to fix it without complaint. While I wouldn't pin Tommy as the most upscale, chic salon or the most creative when it comes to deferring to the stylist's creative vision, it's solidly reliable and the price is right for an entry- or early-career professional who wants to look her best in the +852.

I'd had unsatisfactory highlights at Toni & Guy, so I was looking for a new stylist to fix the orange in my hair. Edmund did a satisfactory job at improving the colour at the roots but said I would have to do a couple more sessions to eliminate the orange streaks that ran the length of my (very long) hair. I returned at the end of August to redo the roots and highlight the remaining orange streaks, but despite discussing this, Edmund only highlighted the roots and then walked away to another client. I asked the girl if I could speak to him again but she said no as he was busy with another client. I persisted and he eventually returned. When I reminded him of the orange streaks, he became annoyed. He snapped that it would cost me more and that my hair would be dry. I explained that I understood but wished for him to colour it anyway. He reluctantly did the majority of the remaining orange sections, but after the wash, he returned to tell me that he would not do that again and he would only highlight my roots next time. I returned again in November to have the roots redone. Previously, we'd discussed going lighter at each visit as I wanted platinum blonde, not ash blonde. At my first visit we went lighter, but my second visit was the same tone. This time he said he would just put in more ash. This time he started in a different section and put in less highlights than before. He finished in half the time he had previously taken, and then walked away. After the wash, I could see large sections where there was no colour at the roots. He had put in less highlights and they were chunkier. I asked him why the highlights didn't go to the roots this time and he replied, "I don't do highlights like that, very bad for the skin." Then I asked if next time he could go closer to the scalp and he said, "No. Please pay, goodbye." He removed my cape, gestured to the front desk, and walked away. In the 15 years I've been getting blonde highlights, this is the furthest from the root that anyone had gone. So I emailed Ivy Sung from The Upper Room and sent her photos. She kindly fit me in a few days later and fixed my hair. Ivy fixed the roots, treated the hair, and achieved the platinum blonde I wanted in one session. She is the best stylist I've ever been to. I regret listening to the recommendation and not going to her in July instead. She is meticulous, dedicated, and honest. I relayed my experience with Edmund and she was appalled. She also assured me that my hair wasn't damaged, that despite having been bleached twice in less than a week, my hair was strong and healthy. She showed me the obvious demarcation at the back of my head where Edmund hadn't done the highlights down to the roots, nor had he done half-head highlights. Instead, he had stopped only a inch from the crown when he should've continued highlights down to the ear line. I contacted Tommy Hair to request a partial refund. They refused and said they would only fix it or give me a 50% discount the next time I visited; I will never let Edmund nor any other stylist at that salon touch my hair again. *At my last visit with Edmund, another client was there having her colour redone. She wasn't happy with their work and said the colour they had put in the previous day was too grey and yellow in parts. You could see large sections of grey mixed with an unattractive yellow (She did not have naturally grey hair). When they were finished there was little change in the colour and she did not appear happy with the result.

Well I have a small chunk at the side significantly longer than the rest of the hair and a noticeable gap (not sure how he managed to do it) at my parted fringe. He explained to me this was the work of my previous hairdresser and there is nothing he can do about it.. In the end, he just blow-dry my hair into curls to cover this mistake. He is actually good at styling and doing blow-dry, but sorry you need some proper training in haircutting. However, not every one at mina are the same. My friend who went with me had a satisfying haircut and she plans to visit again next time. Needless to say, after a couple months in Hong Kong, it was time for a trim up. We wandered into Salon Salon one Saturday, and my husband was given a booklet so that he could choose his style. This book consisted of hairstyles that I can describe as the complete history of Kpop boy bands in the past 10 years. He insisted that he just wanted a trim, but his hair was so long it was starting to curl at the ends and it was hard to see any sort of style that it may have come from. I pulled out my phone and showed the stylist a Facebook photo of my husband. He said ok, and started trimming. I wandered around at the nearby stores and then returned. My husband had a pretty nice haircut. It wasn't perfect, but it got the job done. He has since returned several times, and always comes back looking nice and sharp. If you choose to go here, I highly recommend bringing them a picture of the hairstyle that you want, unless the boy band thing is right up your alley.
