To my surprise, it is indeed a very nice alternative to expensive hotels in Hong Kong. Located at the heart of Wan Chai where you can have crazy fun at the bar district every single night, The Johnston Suites offers great opportunity for one to explore the excitement and glamour of this city. The higher floors are definitely better than the lower ones mainly because of the roadside construction right next to the entrance. Thus, there is a chance that could be quite disturbing, also with the busy traffic there, higher floors are the way to go if you want to have a quiet stay. The room my friend had was rather spacious with a well equipped kitchen. It had everything one needed so I was rather impressed with it. It indeed made me feel like home. Staff were super nice and professional and called upon when needed. However, I have to say that the best part of this place still is the location. You can experience the vibrant city life by just spending some time here for sure.

Our first room had some small bugs under the bed (most likely due to the humidity of HK) but the management was very happy to switch us to another room. Shared facility: comes with a kitchen, common space, washer, dryer. Management: They were very friendly and helpful, there is always someone on the premise and there was a 24 hr security station and a locked gate to the houses. Drawback: It is in a secluded area that doesn't have a lot of restaurants, grocery or convenient stores nearby. At least 15 mins bus to reach one. Bewared if you're not use to the small living space in HK then it will be a shock to live here. It's really small but it is HK and the cleanliness makes up for it.

Janice Chan at Y&C Property is one such agent, who has this particular calm and easy going nature bout her, that makes her a pleasure to deal with. Based in Tin Hau, so dealing with only properties local to that area, the agency is one of many nestled in the patch around Electric Road near the MTR station. Many of these agents share properties, but it seemed that Janice had access to some that were exclusive, which is great as it doesn't waste everyone's time with repeated viewings. It also meant that she had keys accessible or contact with the landlord, so we didn't have to wait at each property for some other agent to let us in. Janice also respected the budget and didn't try to weasel a few thousand more dollars out of every viewing. Frankly, is I say a million, I mean a million, not one and a half! Her English was reasonable, not the best, but passable. Unfortunately her colleagues were a bit like walking potatoes, but that might have been a language barrier. One thing that Janice did which I found a bit irritating, was the order of the viewings. Rather than organise the viewings around geography, so for example you go to the furthest one and work your way back, she would organise the viewings by some other random format, which meant we would go to and fro doubling up our walkabout. In the HK heat, it's not very pleasant. Otherwise, perfectly nice folks to deal with. Do check them out as their stock does seem to be that little bit different to everyone else's.
