A lucky friend of mine lives here and I can only say good things about these service appartments…read more They are located in the heart of Causeway Bay and you may think they're noisy. Well, they aren't - they are completely isolated and you would never know you're actually there unless you open the window and look out. Even the entrance to the building is distinctive, decorated with green leaves, as well as the interior design. However, the number of the building is not signaled outside (on purpose?). There is music on when you get to the entrance hall and since then, you feel a lot relaxed! To come up the apartments you need a key so if you don't live there somebody will have to come down and pick you up, which is a bit of a hassle. There's no problem coming down. The flats are big, spacious, decorated in white - there've got plenty of storage room, a fairly big kitchen and nice furniture. There's cleaning service every day and for laundry there's a specific room devoted to washing machines where you don't even need to buy powder, everything is provided. There's a reading room with a coffee machine where you can chill out and look at busy Causeway Bay...and close to it there's a small gym. The best part is possibly the terrace: two separate areas where one can even bring up food as one of them even has a bar. This is just a great place. Two cons: it's very expensive and...let me complain that there isn't a pool!

I stayed here for one year and I thought it was a quite good apartment, until I found out they have…read morereally unreasonable deposit refund policy. The contract says they would refund my security deposit within one month after the contract expires. I thought that one month was just maximum and that they would probably refund within a week or two. Boy, was I wrong! It took them not only FULL ONE MONTH, but also they haven't even paid me AFTER 35 DAYS SINCE MY LEASE EXPIRED. U$8,000 is a lot of money and I haven't received it yet 35 days after I moved out! How long does it take to figure out how much I woe them for wear and tear? I think one day will be more than enough to figure out the total charges. I think they are probably enjoying interests from this big chunk of funds. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT WILL BE STUCK WITH THEM FOR MORE THAN A MONTH AFTER YOU MOVE OUT!!!!

For many, buying a property in the Mui Wo area on the south side of Lantau Island, is potentially a…read moregood idea. For HKD8-10million, you can pick up a wonderful three story plus roof terrace village house, in one of villages behind the Silvermine Hotel. If you do find yourself in the position of buying in Mui Wo, I would thoroughly recommend Findley Leung Realtors. They have a couple of shops along the road beyond the bus terminus from the ferry pier, and have really cornered the market for properties in Mui Wo, Pui O, and Cheung Sha. What was particularly refreshing was the attitude of the staff. I really did feel as though they were making an effort to help me find a property that I would buy, rather than just trying to flog me what was vaguely similar on their books. I was very well looked after, to the point of being driven around to view properties. On HK island, it's all about the walking - ugh! The local and legal knowledge of the staff was also excellent. Most of them live on the island, and couple of them are actual "natives" and entitled to village land, so they know all the nuances of buying villages houses. It's great to have this insider knowledge, as there is so much speculation as to rights and access to village land, that it feels worryingly difficult to buy, when in fact it is quite simple. Ultimately, if you are looking to buy in South Lantau, you will most likely come to Findley Leung, as one of the only (and probably biggest) realtors on this side of the island. I found them particularly good, I hope you do to. With their staff taking off a lot of the stress, you should only need to think as to whether or not you really want to be living the island life!

Two years ago, I basically called this place home for 5 months while I was in Hong Kong. It use to…read morebe a giant villa but has now been renovated into an adult only co-living space. You can book it for long term or short term. The room: Fairly new, very clean, air conditioned, equipped with a desk, a wall-clothing bar and a private bathroom with a toilet and shower. Our first room had some small bugs under the bed (most likely due to the humidity of HK) but the management was very happy to switch us to another room. Shared facility: comes with a kitchen, common space, washer, dryer. Management: They were very friendly and helpful, there is always someone on the premise and there was a 24 hr security station and a locked gate to the houses. Drawback: It is in a secluded area that doesn't have a lot of restaurants, grocery or convenient stores nearby. At least 15 mins bus to reach one. Bewared if you're not use to the small living space in HK then it will be a shock to live here. It's really small but it is HK and the cleanliness makes up for it.

Chevalier Garden in the Ma On Shan part of Sha Tin was my home base when I was visiting Hong Kong…read more Chevalier Garden is a public housing estate comprising of 17 apartment buildings built in 1988. The estate has numerous facilities including a school and recreational facilities like basketball courts. There is also a commercial shopping complex full of restaurants and shops. And is well served by numerous bus routes at the Chevalier Garden Bus Terminus. Stayed in Block 17. It is a bit of a walk to the shopping center and bus stop, but not that far. The apartment I was staying in was decent size in regards to space compared to a couple other public housing apartments in HK that I have visited. It also has a view of Ma On Shan which is one of the tallest mountains in HK. There is a security guard stationed in the lobby as well as a key code entry system so it is pretty safe. In staying at Chevalier, I got that there was a real sense of community as people greeted each other as they walked within the complex. The reason for the three stars is that the ventilation in the building is not the best. If it is hot outside, it is going to feel the same inside. Making air conditioning a must. I had a few sleepless nights due to the hot weather. It also limits your ability to cook since a dish requiring high heat is probably not a good idea. Fortunately, there are a few restaurants downstairs so it would be easier to order these dishes as takeout instead and save you the trouble. Living at Chevalier is convenient from a commute standpoint too. They have a bus (85K) that goes to Sha Tin Station so you can get on MTR as well as a bus (A41P) that goes directly to the airport. It also is close to the MTR Tai Shui Hang Station though I did not use that station as I found the bus easier. While it may not be in urban Hong Kong, I did not find it difficult to get from Chevalier Garden into the city. There are plenty of commute options. I enjoyed my stay here. A bit of a distance away from the urban sprawl, but not too far.

I have to say that the reason this place got my attention was the lightening at night - bright red…read moreand pinkish giving such romantic vibe to it. Later on I realized it is actually a serviced apartment. Therefore when one of my friends asked me about where to spend half a month in Hong Kong, I suggested this immediately (or maybe because I wanted to see how it looked like inside haha...) To my surprise, it is indeed a very nice alternative to expensive hotels in Hong Kong. Located at the heart of Wan Chai where you can have crazy fun at the bar district every single night, The Johnston Suites offers great opportunity for one to explore the excitement and glamour of this city. The higher floors are definitely better than the lower ones mainly because of the roadside construction right next to the entrance. Thus, there is a chance that could be quite disturbing, also with the busy traffic there, higher floors are the way to go if you want to have a quiet stay. The room my friend had was rather spacious with a well equipped kitchen. It had everything one needed so I was rather impressed with it. It indeed made me feel like home. Staff were super nice and professional and called upon when needed. However, I have to say that the best part of this place still is the location. You can experience the vibrant city life by just spending some time here for sure.

First off let me apologize for the photos, they were taken with a very old phone of mine…read more.. Hopefully they did not make you run away... Anyways, I spent my first year in a hall called "Daisy Li Hall" in New Asia College. And I am still pretty glad to have picked this place as my first year of studies. As a freshman, I really did not know what to expect at all. Luckily, I was told by many during the CUHK Registration Day that I should apply for a room at the hall with the best view in CUHK - Daisy Li Hall. It is located at the top of the hill and someone also told me it was drastically cold during winter compared to those at the bottom of the hill. (though I did not see much difference still...) Anyways, on my first day there, I was genuinely amazed with the view. My room faced directly to the Tolo Harbour, which according to feng shui, it helps so much with studies when your room faces such beautiful sea and mountain. And I did get a rather good result there haha... Whenever you walk to this hostel, you will also walk pass the famous Pavilion of Harmony. The huge banyan seems to have protecting this place for years and you will definitely feel very safe and sheltered if you are lucky enough to be one of the residents here. I have to say that it has the best study environment among all hostels in CUHK. However, if I may add, though it is equipped the best view in CUHK, I was rather annoyed with the shared bathroom as it was rather dirty... (Well, I suppose that is the case for most hostels here anyways...)

Buying a property in Hong Kong can be a little bit of a minefield. For us mere mortals, who cannot…read moreafford one of the brand-new buildings offered by the larger chain estate agents, we are relegated to using some of the more colourful local agents, with old stock that is perhaps more suited to our budget. If you happen to be looking for a property in Tin Hau, I recommend that you go to Ngan Mok Street. Down this street there several estate agents, all of which hold a lot of reasonably priced stock in the area. Fion Li with Park View Property was particularly refreshing to deal with. She understood, and most importantly, followed our budget requirements. There was no addition of a few percent here or a few percent there. She looked for property at our budget. Of course when we were looking, many of the properties were not available to view immediately. We were able to make an appointment with Fion on the following day, and unlike many of the other agents, she was able to secure access to each of the properties on the day arranged. The only issue of having so many agents in a small area, is that they all hold the same stock - literally. So what was happening, was Fion was taking the keys from another agent to show us a property which the other agent would also be showing. As such, we ended up seeing many properties that we had already seen with another agent, and as is Hong Kong law, we were obliged to continue with the previous agent. Fortunately, Fion was very gracious about us turning down viewings. She must be quite used to this by now. Last note, Fion's English was very good, so we were able to communicate with relative ease. Again, a refreshing change to most local agents. I mean, how on earth do you hand signal, "are there any mortgage encumbrances on the property?"?
