In one of the most famous folklore in Chinese culture, which character possesses the ability to transform itself into different entities like another person, weapons or other objects? No idea? How about a hint - he accompanies a monk, and two more disciples to go on a journey. Yup, he is the most iconic character from The Journey to the West - The Monkey King, as known as Sun Wu Kong.
Because of its popularity, people have built a number of temples that are dedicated to this 'king' and enable others to worship him. One of which is located in Sau Mau Ping, Kwun Tong, you may wonder why this is built in such small scale if it is that popular among people. It is believed that this is just a make-shift site for the temple as the original one was torn down by the government to make room for housing a decade ago. Therefore, you would have expected that it is definitely not a common tourist spot and the number of people coming here frankly speaking is rather scarce.
However, every 16th August in the Lunar month, it is believed that it is Monkey King's birthday and this temple is the only one that will host a festival where you can a real reenactment of the classic The Journey to the West.
