The EcoPark is a established (since 1994) leisure and recreational destination with Hong Kong's communities and families. The EcoPark is a key educational partner with Hong Kong schools with the goals of promotion of environmental awareness and to enhance the general physical and mental well being of every visitor. Facilities include a lotus fish pond, petting zoo, bullock cart ride, BBQ'ing, canteen, adventure play area, creative workshops and strawberry picking and horse riding.

Tin Shui Wai Park may be far, but with close to 15 hectares of green space, it is worth the travel…read moretime and effort. Surrounded by residential areas, Tin Shui Wai Park feels very serene. There are a few people, or maybe because I decided to visit on a weekday. Being far from the city center and where the ratio of children to elderly is 1:10, the park is definitely for those who prefer a slower pace of life. The facilities are also highly maintained, the bathrooms clean unlike the ones in densely-urban areas such as Mong Kok and Sham Shui Po. Because the park caters highly to the elderly, they have a special area called the "Elderly Fitness Corner" where there are a lot of old people stretching to improve or rather maintain their flexibility. The fitness stations scattered across the park are a great place to do some yoga or plyometrics. There aren't a lot of people using it so you can have it all to yourself for as long as you like. Another thing I like about this park are the hard-surface tennis courts and soccer pitches. Again, since it's so far from the city, not a lot of people use these facilities except for the nearby residents (which are mostly elderly). There is also a model boat lake where one can bring their radio-controlled boats to play along with. For those who have model cars, the park has got you covered as there's also an area for radio-controlled cars. Play gateball? There's an all-access practice and match court for the taking. Finally, for skateboarders, there is a simple concrete area with rails and a street plaza, perfect for trying out aerial tricks. If you do get tired of being in the park and prefer the comfort of air-conditioning, Kingswood Ginza is nearby.

There are 3 sessions of opening in the afternoon, and sometimes it can get busy, so I would say talk to the staff and get a ticket and a rough idea when you should bring the kids there. Otherwise, you can miss it and your kids might get grumpy. lol It has a beuatiful lotus pond, and the flowers are budding and only a few has opened. There are other fishes and insects from nature to look at as well. In the butterfly garden, a speaker will explain to you the life of a butterfly and the features of them. But it is in Cantonese only. Must bring Hat, sunscreen and mosquito repellent! srsly I got bitten even with mosquito repellent on.

Hong Kong Wetland Park in Tin Shui Wai was probably one of our highlights: the park being a huge open area with ecodiversity that few Hong Kongers ever get to truly appreciate. If I hadn't worked in Yuen Long, I'm not sure I would've ever heard of the Wetland Park, which would have been a shame since the project site has been designed so well, architecturally and educationally. There's a butterfly garden, and a few trails that pass by mangroves, fishponds and streams - all seemingly miles away from the urban Hong Kong hustle and bustle. So, strap on your fanny packs, rock your sun visors, and dip in a bath of sun screen, because the Wetland Park is a day-trip of eco-friendly fun. Down with the 18 degree aircons! Well, down with the 18 degree aircons for a little bit: there's an indoor exhibition area, the Visitor Centre, where you can learn about animals that live in the wetlands - including Pui Pui the crocodile, who has a home at the Wetland Reserve. The viewing gallery also gives you a good view of the Wetland Reserve too from an indoor site. Admission is $30 for a standard ticket, while concessionary tickets are half price. The Park is a great place to take the kids, to get some fresh air, or to learn more about conservation in Hong Kong.
