I don't care if its summer out there, I just want that beef right now. This has led me onto a search for the best all you eat hotpot restaurant out there because there's no arguing that it offers the best value. There may be niche ones which do extremely good meat and other items but they will cost you an arm and a leg to dine here. No good if I want this in the long run. That's when I chanced upon Giant Seafood Hotpot. This shop first opened in Tsuen Wan where it was situated on 16/f of a commercial building- the view was amazing and given it was all new back then everything was nice. the food they served was really fair for the price (160?) and all soft drinks were for free too (they serve you real coke by the way). I've been a fan of this place for the best part of a year when everybody else seemed to have discovered it and things went down hill from there. Nowadays, you have to reserve a table in advance by a week or so at least, that's if they let you make a reservation. The second thing is that walk-in is well nigh impossible unless you decide to start waiting from about 5 pm. IF you were lucky to get a table you will find that the place has gone downhill and no care has been taken to keep the place up. The food is alright if you go early enough when they tend to give out the prettier stuff, go later at night and you will really be scraping the bottom. Please make more tables available!

You can pick how spicy/sour the soup is, if you want more/less/none of the bean sprouts/leeks/cilantro/noodles etc. Lastly, of course, you can pick the ingredients in it. If you're into this kind of noodle, definitely check this place out!

It is a rice noodle restaurant were you can customize what sides you want to add, level of spiciness, and type of soup broth. My friend ordered the sweet and spicy soup broth for me and it was bombbb! I had the schezuan broth the first time and it was way to spicy for me to handle! So, if you like mala (numbing spice) then go with schezuan! As for my sides, I added beef, pickles, minced pork, and chicken. You can add as many sides as you want for only 5rmb which is less than $1usd. If I can recall, I believe each bowl was around 19rmb ($3usd) which is so incredibly cheap! Be sure to arrive before dinner time because it tends to get packed here, so you will be waiting at least 20 minutes for a seat. Also, don't be alarmed if the waitress seats you with other parties. I learned that it's normal to share tables!

This type of cuisine is my mom's territory. While I love the fish soup itself, my mom loves the stringy rice noodles. This place was packed with a constant stream of customers. You eat on these blue plastic stools and pay at the front cashier when you are done. One of the staff was so nice to carefully explain and simplify the menu and options down for us when she saw us struggling/taking a longer time to order than most others. My mom got a bowl of fish soup with rice noodles, 扎肉(Vietnamese sausage), and 魚鰾 (swim bladder). We also got a side of green steamed choi sum veggies. I haven't had fresh fish swim bladder like this in probably 10 years. We just don't eat this in Toronto anymore. It was sooo freshy, soft, tender, yet gooey at the same time. It was so good. The Vietnamese sausage was thicker and more fragrant than the ones I've had in Toronto. It was interesting but quite good. Appearance-wise, it looked very bland actually. The rice noodles were not to my liking at all since they were so hard in texture. The fish soup was amazing -- so flavourful and simple and clearly devoid of any MSG. A neighbouring diner was eating a bowl of fish noodles with the entire steamed fish in it! Tail, head, bones, and all. The rice noodles (or you could also choose rice) was served separately. It looked like such a wholesome and "ching" option. If we return again, I want to try the whole fish soup as well as their fried fish skin.

This is authentic food and you will not find many tourists here. We didn't have to wait long at all to get seated, we got there around 8:30 on a weekday. Don't bring your date here, the decor can use some work, and the kitchen is visible by others depend where you sit, and you can see them cleaning fish guts out. They have an English menu and the servers speak enough English to get by. One was even nice enough to bring in another server who spoke better English to explain the market price of one of the fish, a move that put me at ease knowing they weren't ripping off us useless non-Canto speakers. :)
