Since I was due for a new glasses anyways and to not ruin my trip, I decided to just get glasses so I can wear them. My bf called a couple places and out of all the places we called, this place picked up and was very helpful. I arrived at around 11AM, got an eye exam in a dark little room, picked out the glasses I wanted and was told to come back at 7PM to pick them up. Super quick! The selection was very limited and to be quite honest, the glasses were super cheap looking. I didn't need anything fancy so I got the most basic decent looking one for my big head and the total came out to be $90 USD. This is as basic as it can get! She did try to up sell me on the add-on features and nicer looking glasses, but I didn't bother. After my exam, we paid and was told to return later at 7PM. I was not given my new prescription so I had to ask and she then wrote it down on a random piece of paper. Overall, the experience wasn't too bad. Price paid was questionable, but I understand and respect the hustle. Thanks to this place my trip wasn't ruined and I was able to see everything! Also appreciate that I was able to pick up my glasses within the same day too.

She then stopped us and kept saying she's the only optical that is open right now. All of the other opticals close early. I had a sense that she was lying but my fiancé was in desperate need because he is practically blind and needed some bad because we were going on a tour early the next day. We proceeded to buy some just in case. Our taxi driver took us to another optical and it was OPEN and had the RX that we needed. So we went back to this place and the woman says we can't return it because her credit card machine won't allow it. We weren't born yesterday.... So we left and I'll probably dispute it with my travel credit card company.

Dr. Emilio & Smart Vision were recommended to me by local expats in Playa del Carmen. I was not disappointed! This was the most thorough, careful eye exam I've ever had and it made such a huge difference in the new glasses I got, I felt I could finally see well again! With progressives, the focal point has to be right or you can end up seeing clearly in the far distance but not when you're talking with people at a party; or it can be blurry when you're on the computer and you give yourself a neck ache adjusting your head to get a clear view. I had these issues - all completely fixed now. The pricing was reasonable, & they helped me find beautiful frames.
