The people working there are busy and practical -- polite and nice, but efficient. They are not there to chit-chat. Prices seem fair, things have always been ready in 3 - 7 days, and the work has always been good. I have had several pairs of pants and jeans hemmed, shirts and sleeves mended, and fancy buttons sewn back on. The best thing was, after I explained what I wanted, they sewed an inside pocket into my winter jacket. It turned out even better than I imagined. The material has a little stretch, plus a snap button at the top. Now I keep my iPad Mini and backup money in there. A couple weeks later I stopped by to show them how I was using it, and thank them. The lady seemed astonished but pleased! I would give it five stars except for a couple negatives: - They don't take your name and number for the order. So they don't call to tell you when your clothes are ready; you just have to come back with your slip. Also I worry, what if you lost the slip? What if something went wrong (you are hit by a bus, say) how would they know whose clothes they have? - It is quite small. This whole establishment would fit into the changing room of the tailor I went to in Knoxville! The changing room is... a chair with a couple curtains pulled around it. So I recommend it, but set your expectations: efficient sewing for a fair price. Don't expect tea while you wait in a lovely environment or a call when your order is ready to pick up.

(The smaller vending machine appears to dispense fabric softener into a small pink cup.) €4 for a washing machine token. Must use exact change. First insert clear plastic tray in bottom slot to catch detergent. Token falls into middle slot. There's a few styles of washing machines. First put your detergent in - try to match up proportions with the icons that means main wash ("Hauptwäsche" - two vertical lines) vs pre-wash ("vorwäsche" - one vertical line). Choose temperature. Insert token. Press the green button (diamond with the vertical line) to start the washing. The display on mine first said 20 min (maybe this was the prewash?) then it said 40 min (assuming this was the main wash cycle). So, in my case, the €4 paid for both detergent and an hour's wash. €0.50 for a token worth 8 minutes of drying. I used 1 token (8min) and it fully dried 7 button up dress shirts. The other dryer contains 5 pairs of jeans so it's taking 4 tokens (32 min) to dry those. In both cases I'm using temperature D ("Hohe Temperatur"). I was impressed because it seems that all of the machines work. I was also relieved that detergent is provided.

Looked all over the Prenzlauer Berg area for a decent laundromat (waschsalon). My hotel told me to…read moretry this place. So, what makes it good? It's well lit, well located, fairly priced and the machines actually work. There's a pizza place next door which helped the time pass by. The only downside is that the instructions are only written in German, so either ask a local for help or follow the signs on the wall very carefully. It's not rocket science, so it's doable. My next vacation may be a trip to Berlin just to do my laundry here again.
