I thought a hand painted fan would be something she'd like. And this was the place to go. I was pleasantly surprised by the price range. I bought two fans on the mid-high end, but I really like them. I skipped the specially designed stands because at 100€ a piece, I can't afford the stand to cost more than the fan. The service in the store was good. They were pleasant, but a little abrupt. It could have been the language barrier. So I won't really fault them. Other items including Paraguas (umbrellas) can be found here. Definitely worth at least a look in the Windows if only to admire the handiwork.

On our last day in Madrid, we walked the city looking for good gifts - not cheesy, expensive or cliched. I wanted gifts with a bit of a story behind them, but most of the places sold Ronaldo jerseys and Guernica prints. We found Acervo, and it was different than the other places. They had authentic items from all over Spain including jewelry, olive oils, wine and pieces from the different regions of Spain. The owner, Laura (I think she was the owner), spoke English and she spent time with us asking who the gift was for. She showed us a lot of different options and told us about each one. She didn't hound or pester us. She answered our questions and let us browse comfortably. My secretary, our neighbors and family all loved the gifts we gave them. If you are in Spain and you want to buy something special, drop by Acervo and ask for Laura.
