We signed our daughter up for the 3-5 year old 6-week trial ballet class earlier this year. Thankfully it was just a trial class. Weeks 1 and 2 went pretty well. On Week 3, the instructor didn't know how to get the sound system set up to work with music and spent more than half the time trying to figure it out, rather than moving on and teaching. While she was doing this, the girls were just sitting around or running to their parents. I went to the front desk to see if there was anyone who could help, only to find a note saying nobody was there and wouldn't be there for a few days. The rest of that class was spent playing freeze tag with the girls. The remaining weeks were spent essentially playing freeze tag with about ten minutes of trying to teach technique and a routine to the girls. I had conversations with several of the parents who wondered why we were bringing our children here to play a game we could play with our girls at home. Several of the parents were frustrated, and rightfully so. I tried calling the studio during business hours. Nobody answered, so I left a detailed voicemail. I never received a response. Since the class ended, I have received three additional charges to my credit card from Dance Unlimited, which should have never happened in the first place. Communication has been nonexistent, and the 3-5 year old trial class was more of a babysitting session where the girls played freeze tag. If you have young children who are genuinely interested in dance and looking to learn, if you're looking for a place that communicates well with parents, if you're looking for an experience that is anything other than frustrating, I'd suggest trying another studio.

I been taking these classes since they started about two months ago, and I am loving them! I look forward to them every Monday night. Each week, Michaela (our lovely instructor) has a new routine ready for class attendees to learn. The classes are beginner level so the routines aren't too difficult, but she always gives you options for how you can take it up a notch if you want to. I love that there is a new dance each week, because this means you can miss one week and not feel behind. It also means that new people are welcome to come whenever they want! The deets: - As of right now, class is just once a week: every Monday from 8-9pm (peep at the IG for updates/etc: https://www.instagram.com/boisebabehiphop/?hl=en) - Class costs $10, you pay via cash or Venmo each time before it starts - ALL ARE WELCOME! Whether you've taken dance classes before, or you've only ever danced in front of your mirror by yourself, you'll feel welcome and unintimidated. Michaela is a fabulous teacher, makes everyone feel comfortable and confident, and so kindly answers every question that is asked. Plus, the group that this draws is so kind and welcoming. There is zero comparison or competition here--just an opportunity to let loose, twerk a little ;) and have a good time!

The owner, instructors, and staff have gone out of their way to make my daughter feel so loved and special. To see her skills grow along with her passion for dance has been priceless. My daughter currently dances at another studio for her basic dance lessons and comes to Idaho Dance Sport for private ballroom/Latin lessons with Tabish. He is a fantastic instructor! Such a great vibe in the studio as well! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. As a former dancer of 16 years it nice to see an instructor give corrective criticism and push you to work harder. He also is a huge motivator and lets you know how great you are doing. He has such a great balance which is what you want with an instructor. You don't get much of that in the valley. Most studios you get more of a babysitting type of instruction. You definitely get what you pay for here and it's worth every penny. I highly recommend this studio.

I spent significant time coming to this studio, and spent money on many private lessons. Although the instructor is a very good dancer, likely the best Latin dancer in the Boise area, he can be very rude and unprofessional during lessons. For example, at one lesson that I paid good money for, he rudely told me that I was a "D student". Females are treated unfairly at this studio. Male students get private lessons with the male instructor, and get a partner for their lesson so the instructor can observe. However, female students pay the same price, get a male instructor (who in my opinion doesn't know the basics of female technique), and do not get a partner. I spent all my lessons being told that I didn't know how to turn properly. However, I went to one lesson at another dance studio and learned how to turn, and had a partner to dance with. I also was treated with kindness and respect at the other studio. I can't believe I wasted so much money on private lessons at Idaho DanceSport. If you are not sensitive and have a dancing background, this studio may work for you. However, I would not recommend it to any females for the reasons listed above. Also, the instructor definitely favors some students over others, and it is apparent at all Idaho DanceSport events who his favorites are. If you are not willing to treat this hobby as seriously as you would your job, you will not be one of the favorites. Idaho DanceSport made Latin dancing so unenjoyable for me, that I have quit completely and switched to another type of dance. I will never return to Idaho DanceSport.

Heather, the owner and instructor, has a true gift for teaching; she can teach even the clumsiest, inexperienced people. She breaks down the steps so anyone can understand and if you still aren't getting it, she finds a way for you to learn. There's also no pressure and it's just a comfortable, friendly atmosphere. Plus, Heather is a normal person; she's not one of those pretentious dance instructors who make you feel awkward. People of all ages are in these classes, which is wonderful. They also hold social events every other Friday night, and they are a great opportunity to practice and learn. Overall, I've felt very comfortable and welcome in this studio and hope highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning Latin dance.

Whether you're attending one of their larger performances like The Nutcracker at the Morrison Center, or something intimate like New Dance at their rehearsal space, you'll get magnificent, emotive entertainment from these talented folks. Personally, I like their traditional shows, but New Dance holds a special place in my heart. Combining dance vignettes along a central theme, Ballet Idaho pulls in numbers from international artists and counterbalances them with local choreographers. The last New Dance I attended was Form and Concept. They wove video components between dance numbers and the segment Particles had my eyes swelling with tears. Ballet Idaho's support staff is welcoming, informative and clearly passionate about the role traditional dance plays in a community. For those who have yet to attend a Ballet Idaho performance, or don't know if they like ballet, I say do it. Do yourself a favor and become a patron of a fine Boise institution. Your community and your cultured self will thank you!
