Modern Japanese place in Central HK. One of my go-to spots for Japanese meals and drinks. Been here for both brunch / dinner and drinks and all are good. For brunch, we often get the buffet which comes with a large buffet line with standard Japanese dishes such as sushi, yakitori, tempura, among others. You can also order an ala-carte main from your table (as part of the brunch buffet) which serves amazing grilled salmon, scallop, very well-cooked chicken and charred vegetable. Dessert is a fresh fruit platter and frozen yogurt which, while nothing particularly special, provides a nice refreshing finish to the meal. For dinner, I usually get many small plates to share with friends. Some favorites include the salmon, cod, beef, sweet potato, etc. The Japanese-style cocktails here are also good, which explains its popularity among professionals in the area. Nice modern vibe with both a seating / dining area and standing drinks area. Both indoors and outdoors.

ok, this one, I expected to be much better than it was. I have fond memories of eating at zuma in london, where it is the hangout of celebrities and all manner of dressed up brits, the place is posh and the food delicious. step into zuma hong kong, and you realise that although this is still pretty glamorous, the food isn't really nearly as good. service is a little - shall we say, politely enthusiastic but aloof, and the place just feels a little cold to me. we had a couple of their lunch sets, and while the famed cod is still pretty delicious, I feel like the food isn't quite worth the price (and more importantly, not worth the limited stomach space I had for hong kong). skip this one, and try the other restaurants in the mandarin.

Service is good overall.

Zuma Dubai is the crème de la crème of Japanese-fusion - so I was interested, how does Zuma Hong Kong compare? The cool, stylish vibe, which featured modern furnishings, polished floorboards, and chilled out house beats in the background, was signature Zuma style. A lot more casual than the smart Dubai Zuma that celebrities frequent. As for our dishes: - I ordered a cocktail which was served in a real life flower! :) This is the most creative and unusual twist on a cocktail I have ever seen, so I was incredbly excited! The mix of mango and coconut rum was the perfect balance of light, sweet, and bitter, and a great complement to the light tapas style dishes. - Mixed sushi - fresh and fat, full of fillings. - Tartare of salmon and toro with oscietra caviar - the giant fish crackers were incredibly delicate and crispy. The subtle hint of fish in the crackers was delicious. The tartare was also fresh and delicate. - Chicken skewers with baby leek - probably the most average dish of the night. - Sweet corn with shisho butter - the flavours were balanced so delicately! - Miso marinated black cod wrapped in hoba leaf - this is Zuma's iconic dish. Fresh, melt-in-your-mouth cod with a flavour explosion and the charcoaled 'grilled' taste with each bite. Zuma Dubai's version was mindblowingly awesome and this version was great, but not as great as Dubai's cod.

I had a really tough time giving Zuma HK a rating for this visit because I have been here 4 or 5 times over the years and this was my first visit after a couple of years. The food here is and has been phenomenal. The attention to detail and quality of ingredients is very high. similarly, the cocktails are both inventive and mixed to proper strength. Unfortunately for this visit, for the first time, the service was not on par for the food that is being served and the prices that come along with it. A number of items on our order were mixed up, and drinks were forgotten. The servers were not rude in any way and were pleasant but were definitely inexperienced. Anyways - the location is great. This place is in the Landmark, one of many luxurious shopping locales in Central, occupying the 6th and 7th floors I believe. There is outdoor seating if you so desire, and it can get lively here....particularly for the Halloween party!!! On this particular visit, over lunch, I ordered the Horitae set lunch and supplemented with a number of items that were shared. As mentioned, the food was phenomenal and the items we ordered, though individually smaller portion sizes, were numerous. The cocktail menu and sake list were extensive,.....but I will save that for my next review.

Zuma is a contemporary Japanese restaurant, that brings (according to their website) a "sophisticated twist on the traditional Japanese izakaya style of informal dining" - yep, I'm not sure what that means either! It's a great venue, very well situated in the Landmark Building in Central, and super easy to find (even if you have been living under a rock). There is a lounge bar on the 6th floor, with a dining room and terrace on the 5th floor. In the dining room is a sushi bar and a robata grill bar. There are also two private dining rooms, great for big groups, but not hugely private (it's basically a glass partition, so you feel like you are in a conservatory). The food here is fab. It has a great variety, ranging from sushi and sashimi, through to robata grill dishes and main dishes of things like black cod and chicken. All the dishes are cooked superbly. However, for me, the best time to get a good selection of dishes is to come for the weekend brunch. The brunch is based on a huge buffet starter selection with everything from raw to deep fried (it really is a massive selection!), an a la carte main course, but not that some main courses require a cost upgrade, and a shared dessert platter per table of fresh fruits, ice creams and cakes. The cost on the Sunday is around HKD500 with free flow drinks. Best to go to the Saturday brunch as it is a lot quieter. The Sunday brunch can be a bit of a bun fight, with queues to the food tables stretching around the restaurant. Fortunately, my Dad taught me how to hold four dinner plates in one hand, and to power load at the buffet, so if you don't get in there quick, I'll be in front of you scarfing all the food.

We came here to farewell our friend with their awesome Sunday brunch. it's a buffet style at an upscale restaurant. The environment is nice and food is good but not as much selection if you compare to other buffets that are cheaper. it does cost over $700 if you have a drink or two. However, the quality is good. I like their tempura and skewers. Sashimi selection is not as much. i would come back for special occasion but not on a regular lunch day.

#ThrowbackThursday - Remembering Hong Kong…read more.. Conveniently located at Nathan Road near the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station, we decided to have our final meal in Hong Kong at Daikiya Japanese Restaurant. It's a very solid all-you-can-eat option with two thick notebooks of pictured items to choose from. The raw and the cooked, the fish and the meat, the meal and the dessert... Sashimi - The usual suspects abound (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, etc.), but they also have hokkigai (surf clam), amaebi (sweet shrimp), Hokkaido hotate (scallop), and nishin (Japanese herring with roe). Served on a bed of ice and decorated with artificial flowers, each platter was well-plated... and delicious! Nigiri - There are plenty of winners here, but let's focus on the one that topped the list - Grilled Scallop with Crab Oil and Garlic. Seared enough to give that burnt flavor, dabbed with crab oil, then topped with roasted garlic... Need I say more? This was the highlight of our meal and, yes, my younger daughter and I had this over and over and over! Worthy runners-up - Grilled Flatfish and Prawn with Black Fish Roe. Rolls - An assortment of maki (sushi roll), temaki (hand roll), gunkan-maki (ship roll), and sashimi rolls was on the menu as well, but we were able to try only a few. The Mango and Soft-Shell Crab Roll was too small and had more cucumber than anything else. There simply were better options to be had. Grilled - Surf and Turf! Shrimp, scallop, oyster, lamb chop, beef, chicken, pork, and even pineapple. The best dish was the Sautéed Diced Beef with Garlic. Perfectly seasoned and cooked medium, these beef chunks were so tender and tasty! Dessert - Gotta save room for some (or all) of these - mochi, macaron, ice cream, tiramisù, brownie, crème brûlée, fruit, nut, and so on. We indulged in their special Milk Top, which had a limit of one flavor per person. We tried the Romantic Moment and Green Tea Harmony, which had soft-serve ice cream, red bean/paste, mochi balls, jellies, and rice crispies. The only way to cap off an AYCE! After restocking on calories, we were ready to head back to the hotel and then to HKIA. Daikiya was just what the doctor ordered to fill up our bellies before leaving. We totally enjoyed our stay in Hong Kong, but we had to wrap up our adventure. It was time to say goodbye... for now...

No wonder HK is the paradise for foodies! 1) The menu was extensive, almost overwhelming (there are 2 books), including sashimi boat, nigiri, tempura, seared fish, hand rolls, California rolls, desserts, anything you can think of! My eyes lit up when I opened the menu like I saw gold. 2) The food quality was very good for the price we paid. Everything raw was fresh and chilled and the rest were all served hot and steamy. 3) Service was super efficient and courteous too. They tried to fulfill all your requests. 4) It can be packed so book an early table. 5) You won't break your bank here to be able to enjoy a quality AYCE. We were all so full at the end. I can't wait to go back next time I'm in HK! I hope they stay in business for a while and keep the quality up! **** I heard the other locations don't taste as good so not every Daikiya is the same.

Sushi Kuu is a fairly standard high end Japanese restaurant, of which there are MANY in Hong Kong. It is essentially Hong Kong people's favorite type of cuisine, so it's a really competitive space. The ambiance is quite nice here, so I would recommend it as a place to come after work with colleagues or with an SO or even your family. I've had a lot of things here and most things are pretty good, though fairly pricey, such as the sukiyaki, the sashimi, the sushi, the cod... the cod is probably my favorite. Recently, Sushi Kuu has seen the effects of shrinkflation. For those of you not familiar, this is kind of like inflation, however instead of increasing prices, they keep prices steady but shrink portion size. Personally, I would prefer inflation, but I kind of understand why they do this.

Japanese restaurants are easy to find in HK, with most offering small variations on the same menu,…read moreSushi-Kuu isn't particularly original but the setting is comfy, clean and cool- with jazz music playing while the sushi chefs ply their trade. For starters the Tofu Salad is really worthwhile- a nice blend of east and west that includes pine nuts, micro herbs and diced avocado. The edamame is nice and hot, but there's enough for 4 in a single serving. The broiled sushi has a nice twist, offering salmon, tuna, scallop, yellowtail all with a simply seared top. The pork on rice is billed as black Japanese pork chop but is really just deep-fried pork with egg on rice- a staple of any Japanese restaurant. Fill up on sushi and order the rice in soup with salmon or plum. A great way to fill up.

However, the vibe here is really chill and not at all pretentious, so I think living up to the name is the least of the staff's worries. The space is tiny and fits about 16 people at most. One of the waitress approached us and apologized that they were busy and no seats available. She walked around and came back to tell us that there should be seating at 9pm, and so we told her, "no problem, we will be back then." We walked around the block and went to the mall to kill time. When we got back about 8:50pm, we waited another 15 minutes, which was fine. We could tell it was busy and every seat in the place was taken (they had group celebrating a birthday-- they offer birthday cake!) By the time we were seated, half the place was getting up to leave. Every staff member starts their sentence with "I am sorry.." which they have nothing to be sorry for!-- but just could be their way of being polite. The waitress who took our order was an older lady. She's the one who approached us when we first arrived, who seated us, and took our order. Her English was pretty good, with a very thick accent (of course) but you can understand her. If you couldn't she will repeat herself or try to say it in a different way. She offered many great selections!-- including which needs to be dipped into their special soy sauce and regular soy sauce. We had sashimi of: baby tuna, tuna, salmon, sea urchin, yellowtail.. and a few others I can't remember. And one tuna roll. Their wasabi is delicious! Everything is fantastic! They offer coke, sprite, and orange juice, along with different types of alcohol. The staff is always busy, literally hurrying along. They come over and wipe down the soy sauce drops that are on the table. They switch out your plates once they start to look a little too used, and always makes sure your drinking glass is full. One of the best services I've ever had! I did have to ask for the check, but maybe they do that so you can enjoy your stay and not feel like you need to leave. Our bill was just a little under $250 USD, but that was expected with all the sushi we had, and just what we were looking for. We highly recommend this place!
