The waitress was beyond helpful and provided a menu in English upon request. This quaint little spot offered such a relaxing vibe, that was much needed! Now for the food..... I honestly don't even know where to begin. This was my first time eating Spätzle and I was surprised at how incredibly delicious it was. This is a tiny private restaurant tucked away on a side street. We picked it because is was close and it had good Yelp ratings. Seating is very tight and people may need to move tables to let you get to your seat. The diners were a mix of locals and European tourists. We were the only Americans. I had the krautspatzle and the others in our group had maultasche gebraten. I thought my krautspatzle dish was excellent. It was very different from the brats we had been having for lunch. I tried some of my wife's dish and it too was very tasty. Portions were quite large and I could not finish all of my lunch. We would definitely return to this restaurant. read more

Traditional swabian comfort food. Not a lot of options in menu. We took lentils and Spätzle. The lentils mash had nice flavor to it, but the Spätzle just felt like raw pasta which wasnt that interesting. We also took German dumplings (Maultaschen). I was not a fan though my friend was. I'm a big fan of Zum Spätzle - I've been here on both of my trips to Hamburg. Both visits were on Sunday afternoons (harder to find places that are open then in Neustadt). There are English menus present and the staff was totally fluent. Both times I was offered to walk through the menus and recommendations on what to order. Both times I ordered spätzle and a glass of wine. Both times I got delicious, cheesy goodness. This place is pretty small - just a couple of tables. Wow. I used to live in Munich when I was a kid and have fond memories of eating Spätzle. Eating the Spätzle here was like that scene from Ratatouille, where the food critic takes that bite of food and is transported to his youth. The Spätzle is handmade and delicious. They seem to take great care to source quality ingredients. I had the cheese Spätzle with onions and bacon. I also requested a little of their brown sauce/gravy on the side. This place was amazing! The place was easy to find and very cute inside. They had an English menu; our waitress was amazing and spoke fluent English, and made great suggestions with the menu. I had the Spätzle with cheese and bacon and my boyfriend had the special, a lemon and rosemary Spätzle - both were large portions and very delicious. This was our first dinner in Hamburg and I would recommend it for anyone! YES! This is the best little gem I was able to find in Hamburg. After being in Germany for a week, I had yet to have my favourite German food, Maultaschen. I had one day left so quickly took to yelp to find a place that would serve this wonderful thing. Fortunately I came across Zum Spatzle! We walked in when there were fortunately enough seats to accommodate us. There are only about 10 tables in the whole restaurant so we were lucky to get a place for 3. This place is run by a one woman band, who takes your order and makes all the food for you. Situated on a cozy little street, I would definitely recommend for lunch. A great find! It's a small cozy place on a nice street. Really warm on a cold snowy night. They have 3 options for vegan spätzle which I was really craving. They recommended the "cheese" and onion one as the most traditional and I got it with smoked tofu as an option. It starts with a small side salad but then when the spätzle came out it was huge! It comes in a glass baking dish straight from the oven. The vegan "cheese" was really creamy. It was a bit of a struggle to finish it but it was so good! The staff were really friendly with perfect English. I'll definitely head back when I'm in Hamburg. read more

Can't recommend this place enough. I lived my whole life in Bavaria but had to move to Hamburg to finally get some real handmade quality Spätzle again! In Augsburg, where I come from, it's gotten pretty hard to get good old fashion Käsespätzle because a lot of places turned into tourist-traps. Zum Spätzle is a very small and cozy place. It was cold outside so the warm and humid atmosphere inside was extra cozy. And with the smell of Käsespätzle in the Air I felt like visiting my grandmas "gute Stube". Everything is locally sourced and hand made. Especially the information about the Eggs coming from a farm where the male chicks are not killed was very valuable to me. There are dishes for vegetarians and vegans as well. So chose your Spätzle with Meatloaf or Tofu. I have not tried the Maultaschen, yet. But I sure want to do that someday. Both times I ate there I had a Spätzle dish. First time Käsespätzle with Meatloaf and brown onions was like my dream. Although I prefer my Meatloaf a bit more on the chunky side. This was almost too smooth. But everything tasted flawless, perfect balance of Spätzle and Cheese, the Gravy was to die for. Second time I had Käsespätzle "pure". What can I say, I love them. High quality for reasonable prices and you can get a free Spätzle-refill If you're not stuffed yet. Which you will want but can't manage to eat. Service is nice and chilled and asks for dessert & coffee in the best way without being pushy. Which is a quality I like very much. Lastly the place is so cosy with lots of pillows, natural wood, warm light and the smell of my childhood. At my grandmas or at a small cottage-restaurant were my parents used to take us to eat after we went hiking at the Alps. I recommend making a reservation if you want to eat there in the evening. I got lucky both of the times I went there. But I will visit again and again and I can not recommend enough to go and try it. Even If you are a tourist from Bavaria! There are so many exciting choices to choose from. My friend had a tofu spatzle and I elected for the special of the day which contained spinach, feta, and bacon. The noodles are SO FRESH. The service is delightful. All of the ingredients are locally sources and handmade. The portions are huge! I cried a tear knowing that I couldn't bring back the leftovers. The wine is also very good.
