It is nice and cool inside with enough sunlight coming in to make it cheerful. It has a gym quality to it with the mats covering the floors and equipment lining the walls. But what I noticed was that it was a quiet place. Maybe peaceful is the word. They offer BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu), F.I.G.H.T Self Defense training, and Muay Thai and a Kid Jitsu program. The kid programs states that it will promote physical fitness, balance and coordination, mental focus, discipline and self confidence. Hell, most adults I know would benefit from this! This is definitely a place I would be comfortable in and comfortable sending my kids.

An all around well structured set up to learn mixed martial arts but jiu jitsu is their main area of focus. The instructors there are helpful and knowledgeable and the black belt students will help you learn as well. It has a good environment of getting everyone to learn and progress in their skills. Students from this academy also compete at MMA competitions and jiu jitsu tournaments as well. They also do separate classes for white/blue belts versus the other higher ups so students that are just beginning can learn the basics without getting overwhelmed. In addition, there are separate classes for kids and adults. Recommend this academy for people who want to get started in their jiu jitsu journey.

They allow your fist drop in for no charge and will charge the rate after that. Called Larry on the phone and was given a warm welcome to stop by and train. Stopped by for their 5:30pm adult BJJ class which was proceeded by their kids class. You know it's going to be amazing when you have a swarm of happy and excited kids. When Larry showed up, the kids gave swarmed him and gave him hugs and high fives. Clear and concise instructions by coach Larry, he was patient, funny and unpretentious. Down to earth and amazing happy vibes all around. Every academy should strive to be like this place. The members are warm, welcoming and patient with my newbie white belt self. No one was grinding for a submission, and just rolling to be better. I felt safe and learned a lot! Out of town travelers, Be aware the Florida humidity is rough. 90min will feel longer , this is why their members are all beast modes. Remember to hydrate! Highly recommended, and the hype is real! I tried a few gyms in town over the years, and they were a lot of the same big egos , and hostile rolls turning me away from the sport. That is certainly not the case here. Coach Larry, Bill, Martin , Yvonne and the rest of the FOYA fam have been nothing but welcoming and have made me feel right at home after such a short time. If you're a lifelong practitioner , or new to the world FOYA is the place for you.

After our 5-year-old attended Karate America Neptune Beach for 10 months, his instructor ABRUPTLY…read moreDISAPPEARED. We received no communication from the school or Karate America Headquarters (in fact...3 weeks later, we still have not received an official explanation regarding his departure). One day we showed up for training and the door was locked, the lights were off, and another parent drove up to tell us that class was cancelled that day. We never saw the instructor again after that. We tried 4 classes with new instructors (different each time) and our child left crying each time. We talked through the challenge but after 4 negative experiences and a total lack of consistency, we decide as a family that we were done with karate. I contacted Karate America Headquarters to notify them of our cancellation and they informed me that we were still bound by the 30 days notice in our contract. I asked them if they felt that was fair considering the fact that we were given ZERO notice that the head instructor was leaving. Her response was that the school was given less than 2 weeks notice and that there was nothing they could do about it. When I asked why, if they knew 2 weeks before he was leaving, that they didn't tell anyone....she said she assumed he had told his classes on his own. My guess is that they feared a mass cancellation of memberships so they kept it a secret for as long as possible until they could reach the next billing cycle. Her attempt at a compromise was to let my son continue to attend for a month and then cancel his membership...which I told her was the same thing as holding me to a 30 day cancellation. It's just so disappointing that after paying almost $2,000 for memberships and uniforms and equipment that we don't get a phone call, an email, or even a mass text about major changes in the school. And then, instead of doing the right thing and letting students opt out...they hide behind a contract to suck an extra $149 out of parents who bought into the system that would ultimately fail them.

We pay $150 PLUS a ton of money for our son to be able to participate in "graduation" which was never explained and we expect him to be taught and treated equally since we do the unlimited and "open belt" classes. The red head teacher treated my son and another little girl like they didn't exist today. I couldn't believe my eyes! Don't offer open beer classes if you refuse to take the time to teach the little ones. The way he handled the situation was beyond anything I have ever seen or dealt with. Today was the last straw. You should be ashamed of yourselves! Practice what you preach or close down.
