Profit above Quality every time…read more The Amity location of WC TKD is below poor. if I could have chosen no stars, I would. I brought my child there 2.5 years ago. During that time, they have "lost" him twice (the first time he flagged down a stranger on the sidewalk and asked to use his phone to call me.) He has broken his arm. And still, they flag me down on the sidewalk asking for additional fees for equipment, belt advancements, tournaments, and more. Once you child advances to black belt protest, classes are Available only three times per week - and the Saturday morning class is frequently cancelled so they can hold more profitable sessions. So, be prepared to move everything else in your life to accommodate their whims. Parents are not permitted to stay inside the dojo during classes, (so god knows what, if anything good, your child is learning for $250 per month plus extra fees), relegating you to sitting in your car for a 40 minutes session, or shopping at one of the filthy stores in this strip center. Training is "get them through," style, with no character or learning around the craft itself. "Masters" are high school and college students who function without leadership and just try to get commissions for extra charges. No one should take their children here. I am perpetually sorry I stayed as long as I did.

Nick and his instructors are top notch professionals who make it a point to connect with every student. They make sure new students are given a comfortable place to practice and learn while still giving the experienced athletes the space they need to work and sweat. FAA-CT is MMA-focused so very little time is spent on the structure and rituals you may have experienced in traditional martial arts. The gym is kept clean and the atmosphere is loosed and fun while still maintaining high levels of focus and safety for all. They are also very affordable compared to comparable MMA gyms in the area. The best endorsement I can give comes from my kids. My 9yo daughter checks the class schedule a few times a day and won't stop asking what class is next and how many days away it is. My 15yo has found a new extended family. She leaves every workout glowing not because she's learning how to fight, but because every adult in the gym has taken the time to learn her name and gives her the "good work" fist bump after every class.

He's tough, he learned from the best. He makes martial arts an issue of spirit, rather than a mere workout. I get bored very easily, using the treadmill or elliptical and weights every single day. So last summer I decided to go back to Tae Kwon Do USA. I went there several years ago in 2004 for a few months before I moved to Costa Rica, so I knew exactly what to expect with this class. I have to warn you, this class is not for everyone. It is very intense, and you will definitely sweat. Sir (the teacher/owner) has us do everything from push ups to lunges and punching and kicking and using the bags and gloves. It is a total body workout, and if you are consistent and come here two to three times per week, you WILL see results. The thing I love the most about this class is the other students. It is truly a "judgment free" class. There are people of all levels here, and no one will judge you if you can't keep up. He also changes the workouts frequently so you are always using different parts of your body. I always have had scrawny spaghetti arms, and now I am actually proud to show off my defined arms and shoulders. If you like to work out hard and sweat, and be rewarded for your hard work, then you should definitely come to this class. He has a 5:30-6:30 class Mon-Fri and the 7:30-8:30 class Mon, Wed and Friday. Hope to see you there!

If you're looking for the best 100% no-gi jiu jitsu experience in Connecticut, stop searching --…read morethis is the place. I've been training at Connecticut Submission Grappling (CSG) for the past five months, and it's easily one of the best decisions I've made in 2025. The vibe is welcoming and ego free. Whether you're brand new or a seasoned grappler, everyone's here to help each other learn and improve. The gym itself is modern with state of the art facilities. It has no smell (huge for me), a large mat space, a small gym area, a bottle refill station, AC, and a shower. It's a space clearly built by people who care about safety, progress, and long-term development. But what truly sets CSG apart are the instructors and their approach to coaching. Alex and Ryan have completely redefined what coaching means to me, while being two of the most down to earth people I've met. After more than a decade around youth and college soccer coaches, I'm used to seeing people stick to how they were taught or what worked for them in their careers. These two are different. They're constantly researching and talking with experts in movement science and skill development to sharpen their approach. The instruction you get each class feels thoughtful and personal, not one size fits all. Each class is built around live game based scenarios that feel more like playing a sport than doing repetitive drills. There are no warm-ups, no punishments, no speeches, and no wasted time. Just real grappling and real development from start to finish. Whether you're in Fairfield County or New Haven County, and whether you're brand new or have years of experience, CSG is absolutely worth your time. If your current gym feels stale or you're not getting enough live work, this is the upgrade you've been looking for. Come train with us!
