The store was clean, everything was well stocked, and even with plenty of people coming through, the service was fast and organized. That's one thing I like about Buc-ee's. They can be extremely busy but somehow keep everything moving. I got the North Carolina BBQ sandwich, and I loved it. My wife enjoyed hers too. The food is one of the main reasons we stop at Buc-ee's instead of a regular gas station. There are so many options, and I really like seeing the new food and snack choices they continue to put out. Every time we stop, it seems like there is something different to try. The selection of Buc-ee's snacks, popcorn, crackers, jerky, sweets, and other items makes it hard to walk out with only what you came in for. Another thing I love is the cheap fountain drinks. When you're traveling and making several stops along the way, it's nice being able to grab a big drink without paying ridiculous prices. Of course, the bathrooms are another huge plus. They were clean and well maintained, which is something Buc-ee's has built its reputation on and one of the reasons it makes such a good road trip stop. Plenty of gas pumps, clean facilities, good food, tons of snacks, quick service, and just about anything you could need while traveling. Buc-ee's is more than a gas stop for us. I patronized this business daily for a year while building a new house as well as some of the helpers I had. Breakfast & lunch daily, plus fuel when needed. Over the past several months I purchased 3 or 4 pizzas at the tune of $16.00 and some change. Most were very good with the exception of the last one. We ordered a pizza on 11/19/22 for $16.74 as we had company from out of state. The 4 of us each had 1 piece and threw the rest away. Way over cooked and little if any pizza sauce could be found. Dry as a mouthful of popcorn. I called the store and asked to speak to the owner and was told the manager wasn't available at the time. I reached out on the companies FB page but still never heard from anyone. On 12/2/22 I thought I would call them and ask if a discount was possible on an order given the pizza we received on our last order wasn't edible. The person I spoke to was absolutely unwilling to accommodate me. She just couldn't understand why I didn't just jump back in my car and bring the pizza back up to the store. When I told her we had company in our home, and it was easier to just make something in place of the bad pizza at home rather than drive back up there and wait for another order. I also explained to this person that I am 70 yrs. old, a disabled Veteran and live in agonizing pain and was not up to driving back to their business again that evening. I thought the initial phone call and Face Book contact was sufficient enough to document that we had a pizza that was not edible and that I could possibly get a discount on my next order. I was wrong!!! The person that I spoke to had no regard for my service-connected disability and refused to offer a discount on another purchase. She repeatedly told me she just couldn't understand why I didn't just hop in the car and return the pizza. I wasn't asking for anything free and any discount she would have offered would have been accepted. This type of treatment seems to be the norm these days. People have little respect for seniors and even Veterans are often given little thanks. I enjoyed doing business with Happy Sak and would have continued to patronize the company. I find it unreasonable not to apply a discount to the purchase I was trying to make considering the last purchase was so bad we threw it out. I got my candy bar, and on my way to the register the gentleman asked me The ATM was working properly. I thought that was very nice to be concerned, I got to the register and we were talking about me being new in the area and he mentioned that he came from New York, and how much nicer Tennessee was and I made a great choice by moving here. The store shows its age, there are things placed here and there, so remember to take a good look, you might actually find what you've been looking for. It's always nice when you accidentally run across something you haven't seen in 40+ years. That's how I felt about Shelton's Store. It reminded me of my local convenience store in my neighborhood when I was 5 years old. If I had a dime, it magically turned into a candy bar once inside the store. :)

It has charm and character you won't find in a Shell or Speedway. There is usually a group of regulars hanging out at the front chatting. The store is surprisingly large but dark and pretty dusty. The variety of items on the shelves is actually pretty funny and some of them look like they have been there for 40+ years. The couple that runs the place keeps a notebook with all transactions hand written in it. You can get homemade deli sandwiches on the super soft white bread that sticks to the roof of your mouth when you take a bite. Nothing fancy but it's nice to get lunch for 2 for less than $10 anywhere these days. They serve breakfast as well but I haven't made it in to try that yet. They also sell fuel but you can't pay at the pump. I would find that annoying some places but it just makes sense here. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of places left like Shelton's.
